In this video I discuss how to repeatedly draw characters so they look and feel the same from image to image. This is a challenge that often comes up if you are creating a comic or other large project.
I go over how to think about adapting typical human drawing mannequins you might have seen for human anatomy - to stylized characters like my version of Pinocchio from my 2014 French BD adaptation of Carlo Collodi's classic tale... The Adventures of Pinocchio. Written and Adapted by the talented David Chauvel.
This is both an important skill to master from the structural drawing standpoint, and also from the acting and emotional standpoint. Often developing the drawing side of your craft will help to free up the acting and emotion side of your characters.
I also discuss the main reasons you might want to think about drawing with proportion in mind and demonstrate how these principals can help us to draw scenes with multiple characters in an environment.
Happy Drawing!

As someone who did not go to art school, I found this very useful. Thank you 😊

Wow your art is so inspiring! Thank you for the vid
This was a great video. I am currently working on refining my skills for drawing my character in different poses. You offered some great points on structure and proportion. Thank you for the tips and guidance! 🍉 New Mexico
Here I am! So glad you did this video........
Because I've been motivated to learn more

Great
Great video! Just wanted to ask if you have a video explaining how to keep your characters looking consitent with characters that are a bit more complicated. Since Pinocchio is a more simplified character without a jaw or eye sockets and other details of that sort, becuase those tend to be the details i dont quite understand how to draw in different perspectives and angles.
Yeah great idea! I need to do a video on that for sure. There are actually a few insights that I think are really useful. Let me add it to the list. Thanks, I really appreciate the suggestion.
I was wondering if you have any videos on drawing body parts in perspective because, I imagine characters in a box when I draw a character standing up, straight. Now when I make a pose more dynamic I get tripped up because I know every body part or anything has its own perspective… this is the wall I ran into…. I know this video came out a year ago but I’m happy I found your channel :)
Tim- so amazing ~see u arround-📽
Thanks!
Thank you, I hope this helps. I love character design but They only look like the same character because of accessories/colors/clothes/ect
great video! I think i'll try that exercise of filling a scene with the same character to get comfortable. Do you have any tips for recreating a human character's likeness from different angles?
Hey Jim, I think getting the likeness from different angles is about getting the structure right... so just basic drawing... but also understanding how your character works and how to create a character that is easily recognisable from different angles. This is often why classic iconic characters have such key elements that distinguish them... it makes it easier to make them look the same from panel to panel.
thank uuuuuuuuuuu
Where was this vid forever ago? Thank you
where can i get that pinocchio book ?
How can I contact you??
