  • The trains keep getting better and better as the long days of summer open up some great photo angles. As usual, a variety of trains and locations will be shown throughout this program, including an excessive display of foreign power and rare locomotives thrown into the mix. These videos take place on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line between Reading and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and was shot between the first day of summer, throughout July 2014. Train descriptions, as well as the time they appear in the video, are listed below.

6/20/14 - Intermodal train 20R has recently departed Harrisburg, bound for North Jersey, passing the former Reading train station in Lebanon early in the morning. The train is slowing down for a 25 MPH speed restriction within PRESCOTT interlocking on the eastern side of the city.
    0:00 - 20R - Chicago, IL (Calumet) - Elizabeth, NJ
    NS SD70ACe 1038
    NS C44-9W 9521
6/23/14 - Long and heavy manifest train 10N with a variety of locomotives in consist, slows for trackwork as it rolls through the quiet railroad town of Myerstown. I like this location for the two red brick houses next to the tracks.
    1:40 - 10N - Conway, PA - Allentown, PA
    NS SD70 2562
    BNSF SD70MAC 9530
    CSX ES44AC 3011
7/3/14 - Shorter manifest train 16T is on the last leg of its journey as it too passes over Railroad Street in Myerstown, with a storm building to the west. This time the more industrious building on the opposite side of the tracks looms in the background.
    4:00 - 16T - Birmingham, AL (Irondale) - Allentown, PA
    UP SD70M 4705
    CREX ES44AC 1305
Just 20 minutes later and a few miles east, the sun was still shining as MOW gons were heading east toward Reading by a farm outside of Newmanstown.
    5:05 - 93M - Maintenance of Way
    NS SD40-2 3421
    NS SD40-2 3365
7/4/14 - On a beautiful Fourth of July evening, an appriopriate locomotive consist, with a flag unit leading, celebrates America Day at Ramona Road.
    5:35 - 15T - Allentown, PA - Birmingham, AL (Irondale)
    UP AC45CCTE 7656
    UP SD70M 4417
    UP SD70M 4560
7/7/14 - A few days later on another beautiful summer evening, 15T passes the train station in Annville as it slows down for a Stop Signal at MILLARDS.
    7:30 - 15T - Allentown, PA - Birmingham, AL (Irondale)
    NS SD60E 6961
    NS C44-9W 9720
    UP AC45CCTE 5475
Just before sunset, 33A, with CN power on the point, with yard power for Allentown in tow (offline), slows down for a 10 MPH speed restriction, passing the site where the old Hershey Chocolate factory once stood, which was recently torn down last year.
    9:10 - 33A - Baltimore, MD (Bayview) - Allentown, PA
    CN ES44DC 2344
    CN SD60 5408
    NS GP40-2 3010
    NS GP38-2 5613
    NS SD60 6715
    NS GP40-2 3013
7/9/14 - Another rare engine finds its way across the Harrisburg Line in the form of a CN/IC "smurf" Dash-8 trailing on a loaded crude oil train for South Jersey. I'm glad I got this shot when I did, because the corn is now too tall to see the tracks from here.
    11:30 - 64W - Bakkan Region, ND - Westville, NJ
    NS SD60M 6793
    IC C40-8W 2466
7/18/14 - 15T rounds the curve and passes some cows in the pasture with an ex-Conrail Dash-8 leading.
    13:20 - 15T - Allentown, PA - Birmingham, AL (Irondale)
    NS C40-8W 8362
    NS C44-9W 9824
7/23/14 - Early morning hot shot intermodal 20E passes by a farm just outside of Newmanstown.
    15:20 - 20E - Chicao, IL - Croxton, NJ
    NS C44-9W 9885
    NS C44-9W 9246
    NS SD60 6607
Following not far behind another train, 20W runs at approach speed past through Richland.
    17:25 - 20W - Chicago, IL - Croxton, NJ
    NS C44-9W 9433
    CSX AC6000CW 604
That afternoon, a loaded ethanol train roars through PRESCOTT with an SD40-2 leader that was added for cab signals across former Pennsylvania Railroad territory.
    19:25 - 64E - Chicago, IL - Linden, NJ
    NS SD40-2 3401
    UP AC45CCTE 8035
    UP AC45CCTE 7895
7/25/14 - A second section of 262 heads past DORF with the newest GE power from two different railroads on the point. This was a lengthy roadrailer compared to recent trains I have seen, but they are becoming shorter and will soon be a thing of the past because the Triple Crown trailers will be hauled on flat cars.
    20:55 - I62 - Rutherford, PA - Bethlehem, PA
    NS ES44AC 8088
    BNSF ES44C4 7158
That afternoon, stone empties head back to the quarry in Annville with a nice pair of toasty SD40-2's leading the way. The 94M is a utility symbol for the train, which also sometimes runs as H48, H60, or 69N, depending on the crew.
    22:35 - 94M - Camden, NJ - Annville, PA
    NS SD40-2 3394
    NS SD40-2 3338
7/28/14 - A rare locomotive leads 15T past the Triple M Farms feed mill in Avon. The SOO SD60's are in the process of being rebuilt and renumbered into the CP 6200 series.
    23:55 - 15T - Allentown, PA - Birmingham, AL (Irondale)
    SOO SD60 6044
    NS C40-8W 8458

Thanks Dan; things have been decent through here this year (but not compared to CSX!). I agree with the SOO, but I just missed it in perfect light by a couple of minutes.

Mr AutoGRE.. Thanks for the kind words of support. I wasn't aware whistles/bells helped prevent all collisions at crossings. They were both activated for all 3 of the collisions I've had in addition to crossing gates/bells/lights. If a video is posted and comments allowed, they are both examples of free speech. Some even ask for feedback. I don't see what was mean spirited about the comments but thanks for the lesson on bell/whistle noise and it's application on American railroads. Very educational stuff.

A good piece indeed, "excessive" is the perfect term to describe all of the color out there as of late. There was plenty of "whose railroad is it anyway" being played the last time I spent a couple days around Harrisburg. Nice grabs though, I think we got that CSXT 604 at least twice on the PA portion of last week's trip shuttling back and forth on stack jobs. I really dug the shot of the 15T in Annville, we seriously considered driving back out to Shendanoah Junction to wait out that 15T with the SOO leader last Monday...until we realized that our time was better spent eating and not worrying about a damn thing back at Point of Rocks lol. Has the chocolate plant really been torn down already?

I guess the timing of that train down there is dicey, much like the running of 16T up here. And here I was just mad I couldn't get the train in sunlight because the clouds decided to show up about 45 minutes before the train came.

    • @trainkid16
      @trainkid16 10 лет назад

That sucks.. the first thing we heard was the power had been changed as it was going to depart.. then it left at 9:30, so unless I had pocket sunshine, I wasn't going to see it.

Great angles and lighting. Information on symbols for everything. What ruined it for me was bell/whistle noise in every segment except one. It completely drowns out the sound of the locomotives.

T H You should probably refrain from watching videos of trains.

    • @GRE2057
      @GRE2057 9 лет назад

T H please refrain from watching the video's of trains and for that fact any train video. Your comment's are also pretty mean towards the person that made the video as well. Let Me EXPLAIN something to you, Here in the USA the Horn's are USED TO ALERT the MOTORISTS OF ONCOMING TRAINS AND IT PREVENTS DEATHS FROM HAPPENING AS WELL. PROVEN FACT HERE!!!!! And if you still don't take into consideration of what is said then i have to say my friend that you should TAKE A HIKE and LEAVE THE RAILFAN'S AND RAILROADERS ALONE PERIOD. NO IF'S ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT

Great train video, many different RR's. I don't know how some people can record the same thing over and over, gets boring. Not your video!

    • @CentralPennRailProductions
      @CentralPennRailProductions  9 лет назад

Thanks, I try. Since I only live near one Class I railroad it's hard for me to video anything besides Norfolk Southern. But thankfully they run enough variety of trains, locomotives, and foreign railroads through here to keep things interesting. The nearest CSX line is over 2 hours away.
