Heaven Sent is absolutely the best episode since Doctor Who returned. Peter Capaldi shows us why he may be the best Actor to have been The Doctor, stunning TV.
Doesn’t quite make my top 3 (girl in the fire place, silence in the library and human nature) but it is absolutely incredible. Best Capaldi episode by far.
As someone who fell off massively in the Capaldi era- I think that Heaven Sent is a good episode for the actor- but it just lacks that special sauce for what makes Doctor Who so appealing, to me personally. I tried watching it again after finding out how acclaimed it was, and I could barely finish it. All the episodes/stories in this list have that sauce- with regards to watchability- that makes them perfect introductions to this show, which Heaven Sent lacks imo
Human Nature/Family of Blood will be up there at the top of my list, Tenant was absolutely superb in it as a 'non-Doctor' character but also showing that he can be vengeful when someone really crossed him.
Say what you will about the Moffat Era (I personally am a fan), but the fact that so many of these are his scripts and that five Doctors each have a story of his in this list really does show how well he can write.
Midnight. That episode is easily overlooked and to me had the most impact out of all of them. Veeeeery simple, packed into an almost bottle episode, and it kills it. Plus the Doctor faces something he never did or will understand and looses. Fires of Pompei deserves a mention, while the Journey's end and Stolen Earth are a fantastic sendoff to an era. Turn left is awesome (yes I'm a huge fan of series 4), but Vincent deserves to be in the top 10 for the sake of that scene in the end alone.
@@WhoCulture I mean... it's a series of tough choices really. I can't complain with the ones included in here, but these are personal favourites. Edit: I can't blame you for knocking it down for that chicken tho.
I was looking for a comment like this. Midnight is so underrated and overlooked as you said, and I can't understand why. It's probably the most terrifying and shocking episode of NuWho and it's also the best example that the Doctor isn't invencible, that the universe is a really vast and creepy place full of great dangers and that the human nature by itself is, most of the time, what causes our own destruction. It is so simple, yet so meaningful and at the same time mysterious.
I'm so glad you included "The girl who waited" in this list. It's my favourite episode ever, but it gets overlooked most the time. It deserves recognition. ❤
The bit that got me in "Silence in the Library" wasn't River's death or Miss Evangelista's echo or the shadows…. It was Donna, hearing River talking about how well she knows the Doctor in his future, asking River why she doesn't know Donna. Donna, who wanted to travel with the Doctor forever. The incredible compassion in River's expression when she realizes who Donna is (which Donna does *not* miss!) turns it into one of the best bits of ominous foreshadowing I've ever seen.
River Song gives us that tragic perspective of the doctor that we only really hear about. Her first episode is her death, and every single episode with her after it there's always that lingering thought tickling your head, "I watched you die".
Heaven Sent is an art of emotions and feelings and I watched in time of losing my girlfriend and I can't even Tell you how refreshing it felt to watch this episode and get all emotional with after 2 years of numbness. It hurts to watch now, I think it may be the best piece of media I've ever consumed, I never watched it with mum I don't think before she died but she got me into the show and after she passed I went and watched again, its, magical.
The Waters of Mars is probably the most chilling and poignant of the NuWho episodes. The tragedy of the Doctor's God complex being shattered by Capt Brooke's suicide is grim, stunning and sobering. Heaven Sent remains my favorite. Capaldi is brilliant. Cheers....
Turn Left being left off this list even as an honorable mention hurt me deeply and World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls was criminally low. Other than that, it’s a very good list. Also kudos on making sure to include Jodie, who continues to be woefully underappreciated
The jodie entry was merely a pity one, i can name at least 20 better doctor who episodes, it was only included cause all the other doctors got an episode here.
Dalek a big miss in my book. But the choice is hugely difficult. Human Nature/Family of Blood, Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, Rose, Father's Day, Doomsday, Utopia, Partners in Crime, some other RTD stuff that I think is brilliant
I’m rewatching DW at the moment, and saw Ten’s final episodes today. The Waters of Mars has been a favourite of mine ever since it aired, but there’s so many good ones. Turn Left is one of those I rarely see people talk about, yet it’s so well done! And the acting, and sound editing, in Midnight is on point!
S4 is my favorite because there isn't a single episode that's not deserving of a place in a top list. Every single one of them are incredible. I also believe s4 is the most solid season as a whole than all the others.
AKA 10 Times Moffat's Writing Was Pure Brilliance. I'm just going to say it. I love RTD and I'm so glad he's back. But holy moly, Moffat remains probably THE most impactful and amazing Who writers that has eve existed. It's jaw dropping how many episodes of his are regarded as some of the best ever. For good reason! Most wouldn't have won a Hugo award for no reason.
I was 11 when the beast below came out and it literally wholly and permanently radicalised me, in just 45 minutes. I questioned the way the world works from a pretty young age, but I remember very clearly the fire fully igniting during this episode. Doctor who taught me so much more about empathy and not turning a blind eye than any Disney, Nickelodeon etc. show ever did.
Really funny you mention the day of the doctor, because I found myself thinking about it quite recently and remembering how good it was. Not (only) for the great chemistry of 10th and 11th, the fan service and flood of cameos, the production vallue, all that... for me, it's because of what it rooted for the doctor : the fact that each new regeneration is a way to process and cope with guilt. John Hurt was his criminal self that the doctor himself tried to forgot out of shame ; Eccleston was a warrior, lonely and ruthless after the time war ; tennant was the Hero, that tried to embody greatness, to be loved again and make up for his crimes... to the point of turning time lord victorious, doing everything it takes to be the winner, the one that saves the day ; Smith was the runaway, the one who tried to forget about all his dirty deeds by being childish and sweet, hiding a much darker side... i always remember the conflict between 10 ans 11 : 10 is able to count every victim of the time war, while 11 forgot this number, and 10 is horrified of that. It's also why it is so great that it is the episode introducing Capaldi as 12, because much later Moffat made sense of this old face the doctor chose : it's the face of the only person he saved from Pompei, to always remember after all this coping with guilt, that he has to remain a Doctor : someone who SAVES people, and moves onward, instead of lingering on the past. 12 is the doctor of forgiveness : he forgives people because it's the only thing that allows history to move on (for example in his great speech during the Zygon invasion/inversion... very reminescent of Hannah Arendt's theories about rememberance and forgiveness) but also who forgave to himself. People say Capaldi is the grumpy old man but he is so much more than that, and 12 brings a coherence to the whole arc of the doctor in NuWho, that's why he is my favorite.
I did love the addition of the War Doctor because we were thrown bits and pieces about the time war so it was amazing to see the one who fought that war. Also John Hurt was incredible.
So many good choices, so many great episodes left off. The Zygon Inversion, A Good Man Goes To War, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords, The Family of Blood, so many more... God, I love this show. I might have to start a rewatch.
I don’t remember what the name of the episode is, but the one with The Flesh as the villain is excellent. It really gets into the notion of how we define what it means to be human.
Great video Who Culture! My top 10 modern doctor who episodes are: 1) Rose 2) Rise of the Cybermen/ Age of Steel 3) Human Nature/ The Family of Blood 4) Midnight 5) The Eleventh Hour 6) The Rings of Akhaten 7) The Day of the Doctor 8) World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls 9) Spyfall: Part 1 and 2 10) The Power of the Doctor But I also love the episodes Blink, The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone, and The Pilot! I think for me the russell t davies era is the best but I love the moffat era too! Thanks Ellie and Who Culture! 😊😊
@@WhoCulture I just find them really enjoyable and easy to rewatch! Their probably not everyone's cup of tea, but they're the ones that have stuck with me the most! 😊
@@drewcampbell8555 To be fair The Zygon Invasion and The Zygon Inversion are two of my favourite episodes from series 9! But condensing it down to ten of my favourite modern doctor who episodes was really tricky and there were so many others I was tempted to include! The twelfth doctors speech in The Zygon Inversion was incredible so I do apologise for not including this episode, but like I said there are many other episodes that I love too! 😊😊
The Girl Who Waited was probably one of the most mature and complex scripts in the entire show's history, and I'm saying this as fan since the early 80s. One of the best aspects of the new show vs. the classic is that they do a lot more interesting things with the time travel themes.
What i love about the empty child/the doctor dances is that we got an explanation as to why they're like this. Something moffat doesn't always care to give us
Very few people have mentioned 'Listen'. I love the fact that the plot is derived from the Doctor being bored and the it tells us more about the Doctor's history and character than all the Timeless Child nonsense.
10. The Zygon Inversion (S9 E8) 9. Face The Raven (S9 E10) 8. Doomsday (S2 E13) 7. Heaven Sent (S9 E11) 6. The Girl Who Waited (S6 E10) 5. The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon (S6 E1/2) 4. Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone (S6 E4/5) 3. The Angels Take Manhattan (S7 E5) 2. Midnight (S4 E10) 1. The Waters of Mars (Series 4 Special). Hounourable Mentions 1. Day of the Doctor (Series 7 Specials) 2. Journey To The Centre of the TARDIS (S7 E11) - Say What You Want This Episode Is Amazing for Series 7 Standards and I personally enjoyed it 3. Silence In The Library/ Forest of the Dead (S4 E8/9) - Amazing, No.11 if there was one. 4. School Reunion - It's So Fun and Goofy 5. World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls - (S10 E11/12) Even better if Bill and Capaldi had another season (it would build up the arc and make the death of Bill sadder) 6. Extremis/The Pyramid at the End of The World, The Lie of the Land (S10 E6/7/8) Explanations : Lots of Capaldi Episodes because Capaldi is the best Doctor. Series 6 Is one of my favourite series. I don't get why people hate it - The Girl Who Waited, The Impossible Astronaut, Day of the Moon, A Good Man Goes To War, The Doctor's Wife - All Brilliant Episode. I also understand the hate - with shambolic episodes like 'The Wedding of River Song', 'The Curse of the Black Spot' and 'Closing Time'. Series 4 also features a lot of times for understandable reasons. I am not a fan of the Eccleston Era but the best one is either 'The End of the World', 'The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances'.'Bad Wolf/The Parting of The Ways'. Series 7 gets a lot of hate. I understand it with episodes like 'The Bells of Saint John (SPOONHEADS?'),'The Crimson Horror' and 'Nightmare in Silver'. But The Trilogy of the 'Name of The Doctor,Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor is The BEST TRILOGY. Extremis 3 parter was good, Master 3-parter was alright, Donna Noble Three-Parter was amazing but NOTHING IN COMPARISON to these three. Now Let's Talk About Series 9 (The Best Series). We got Missy and Clara and Daleks in the first two-parter, Creepy Ghosts in the second two-parter, a shockingly bad two-parter with a Viking and a Highwaywoman, Then We Get the best Zygon Story and A Questionable but Ambitious Found Footage Episode, A Beautfial Send-Off to Clara and Arguably the Best Episode After that. Hell Bent was a fitting ending and I couldn't have done it better.

I came to Dr Who pretty late, in the 2010s. 'Blink' and 'Silence in the Library/The Forest of the Death' were episodes which convinced me Dr Who was worth knowing :)
my favorite call back in the shows is when River is talking to Rory about her and the doctor meeting backwards and she said "One day i will see him and he wont have any idea who i am, and i think its going to kill me" ... that made my heart hurt thinking about the library
Top-10 episodes you didn't mention: 10: The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang 9: Listen 8: A Town Called Mercy 7: Turn Left 6: The Fires Of Pompeii 5: Amy's Choice 4: Dalek 3: The Doctor's Wife 2: The Girl In The Fireplace 1: HUMAN NATURE/THE FAMILY OF BLOOD
The video has three double episodes in its list, so I think it’s fair game to include other double episodes as alternatives. Otherwise, the video had 13 episodes…
Something that always sticks with me with "The Girl Who Waited" is the argument between the Doctor and Rory, because the Doctor had a counter argument; Rory chastises that the Doctor doesn't consult a history book to make sure he avoids stuff like an outbreak, but we know; if the Doctor knows bad things are going to happen, then they *have* to happen we saw it in "The Waters of Mars." and "Angels in Manhatten." where foreknowledge of tragedy caused major part of the drama, if the Doctor consulted history books, then he knows about travesties he cannot prevent. But he doesn't use it, because he knew in that moment that Rory needed to win this argument, so he gave a less solid reason, so Rory could win the argument.
Oh I just had an idea for a episode the CB version of The Curator and Sally Sparrow stuck in a lift. While The Doctor is outside trying to save the building from being destroyed. 😂
One interesting thing I liked about River's introduction is, at first, it kind of feels like we, as an audience, are supposed to know her. The way she was introduced, with her illuminating her helmet, then saying her catchphrase, felt like it was meant to make the audience go, "OMG, she's back!" Except, none of us knew who she was, at the time, almost as if her introduction was placed in the wrong order. Like, how someone would react to Yana, or Missy, revealing they're the Master, if they didn't know who the master was.
Since Silence in the Library was literally the first Doctor Who episode I ever saw, I never really thought about it that way, as I had no context, but it's actually quite brilliant that she appeared in the 'wrong' order.
Midnight and Blink are my 2 faves. I love them equally. Midnight felt like a Twilight Zone episode and Blink gave us the greatest Doctor Who villians of all time.
"Everybody lives, Rose. Just this once... EVERYBODY LIVES!" - The absolute best part of The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and one of my most favorite moments in Nine's run.
9. Fathers Day 10. Turn Left, even if he barely appears in it, so let's say Blink as well for this 11. Angels Take Manhattan 12. Dark Watert Death in Heaven 13. Whichever one saw her off 14. The giggle 15. Devils Chord
@@DittoGTI Great choices! I love seeing other people like the series 8 finale of Dark Water/Death in Heaven. I always loved it but I see so many who hate it which I never really understood
"The Room of Easter Eggs..." LOL!!!! I never guess correctly on these things, but as you counted i knew No. 1 had to be "Blink!" I don't like list episodes, but I love "Doctor Who" and Who/Trek culture and Ellie, so THANKS for this!!!
7/10 Moffat-written episodes, and it doesn't even include: 1. The Girl in the Fireplace 2. The Pandorica Opens 3. A Christmas Carol 4. The Impossible Astronaut 5. Time of the Doctor I've since seen good arguments against his tenure as showrunner, but damn that man can't half write Doctor Who. I sure hope RTD brings him back with him.
I was sat in my pitcch black room when you mentioned Silence in the Library. The vash nerada is by far the scariest thing to come out Dr Who. The water things (honeslty not sure what theyre called) are emminsly creepy but Im never in space so it doesnt scare me as much
I'm very happy to see The Girl Who Waited mentioned. That was one of the only episodes in series 6 that I even enjoyed. It was an incredibly well done episode.
Esp. the scene where the Doctor and Rory discuss the benefits (?) of Rory having "two wives" [and by implication doing them both]. That would probably never see broadcast in the US.
just yesterday i watched Heaven Sent for the second time ever, and oh my god. i remember it being brilliant but it was even better than that, genuinely such an amazing and horrifying concept
The Girl In The Fireplace & Vincent & The Doctor are two of my absolute favourites. The emotions evoked by Sophia Myles & Tony Curran get me every damned time.
I believe I left a comment here not long ago but didn’t say what my actual top ten list is. Time to give it a go. Honorable Mentions include School Reunion, Vincent and the Doctor, The Day of the Doctor, The Time of the Doctor, Mummy on the Orient Express, and Human Nature/The Family of Blood. 10: A Christmas Carol 9: Turn Left 8: Tooth and Claw 7: The Girl in the Fireplace 6: Oxygen 5: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 4: The Impossible Planet/ The Satan Pit 3: Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways 2: Heaven Sent 1: Dalek (best episode of the whole show IMO)
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday has no mention? That is a crime of epic proportions. A showdown between Daleks and Cybermen, the loss of Rose and her parallel Dad saving her at the last moment, along with such an emotional goodbye between Rose and 10.
A criterion that people who make these lists don't consider sufficiently is replay value. Within this criterion is also the issue of favorite characters -- the characters we can't seem to get enough of. The 10 episodes listed here are good, some very good. But I don't usually seek them out for a later peek, let alone a proper re-watch. This could be true for a lot of Who fans. I would put any scene with Strax, Jenny Flint and Madam Vastra ahead of most of these episodes. Minute for minute, they are delightful. Matt Smith's Doctor is also very watchable -- I return to him often. Catherine Tate's work is also worth rewatching. And the aforementioned Capt. Jack Barrowman. Most recently rewatched by a lot of us is the excellent piece of nonsense music in the the Church on Ruby Road. The Goblin Song has been re-watched by millions of us. I realize these are not "episodes" per se, but they are favorited by some of the most loyal viewers. 2-part big episodes are impressive, but not loved, in my opinion, if love means attachment and affection.
I searched “Listen” on this channel and this video showed up… I really don’t know what to think of that, lol, but maybe the RUclips algorithm just knew how brilliant Listen was, lo;.
The Impossible Planet / The Satan pit two parter is my personal favourite. Aside from Blink or any with the weeping angels, it's, in my opinion, the scariest episode we've had in a hot minute. It's got the perfect balance of lovecraftian horror, the typical sci-fi elements but also it's one that really stands out for me that humanises all the characters the best, not just the doctor and the companion in rose but the side characters. It's also imo the one that truly makes you think about how YOU as a viewer would react and act in that situation. Plus the introduction of the ood. Although the line "If I believe in one thing...I believe in her" may be corny as hell. The entire episode is mostly practical. Aside from the black hole and the beast and the glowing eyes of the ood. Everything is practical and it's also just a pretty episode. To say it's in the same season as Love&monsters and a season before the lazarus experiment. It's a testament to how good dr who can be when it's done mostly practical. Anyway, imma shut up rambling. The Impossible planet / The Satan pit imo is top 5 episodes of all time for Dr Who.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances would be my favourite, followed by Dalek, Midnight and Blink. Best season finale would be Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways.
The Haunting of Villa Diodati is just here because you've felt you had to have an episode with Jodie Whittaker in lol, it's nowhere near the top 10 even though it's a good episode.
Every honorable mention was stronger than the Haunting of...whatever it was called (Chibnall episode names istg). In fact, every honorable mention was stronger than the entire Chibnall era
Cannot pick just 10, my favourites are (not in order): Vincent Heaven Sent Empty child + Doctor dances Girl in the Fireplace Blink (this is number one ofc) Midnight Impossible planet + Satan pit Turn left Human nature + Family of blood Magician's apprentice + Witch's familiar Fires of Pompeii Time heist God Complex (unpopular, but was very fun for me, liked the minotaur and the concept of rooms with fears) Mummy on the Orient Express Under the lake + Before the flood (Cass was an incredible character and was superbly acted) Waters of Mars The end of time (just because of Wilfred, hes the goat) Thin ice World enough and time + Doctor falls
My personal top ten is: 1. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 2. Midnight 3. Heaven Sent 4. Vincent and the Doctor 5. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead 6. The Eleventh Hour 7. Human Nature/Family of Blood 8. Under the Lake/Before the Flood 9. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit 10. Mummy on the Orient Express
it is true that blink may be a really good episode for the first time you watch the episode but if not then lose too much. i think heaven sent maintain the feelings much more.
I still think that "Dalek" is the best episode of the new series. It not only showed the Daleks as a force to be feared but brought a wonderful end (?) of the time war.
Surprisingly, I agree with all of these choices. I might have ordered them differently, but they all make my list. I still can't watch World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls, because of the tragic ending for Bill, but I agree that it's one of the greatest Doctor Who stories.
Jodie Whitaker's best episode in my opinion is the one with Rosa Parks. It was a very powerful episode and one that The Doctor could not help because she would have changed the Future if she did.
Even with "The Haunting Of Villa Diodati" being one of Jodie's best episodes, that to me doesn't put it anywhere near the best episodes of the modern era. I don't think any of Jodie's episodes crack the top 40 in all honesty, including my favourite episode of hers which was "War Of The Sontarans".
Mine would all be tenth's. But if i really try to be objective and include others, it's 1 Blink 2 Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead 3 Midnight 4 Heaven Sent 5 The Empty Child / the Doctor Dances 6 The waters of Mars 7 The Eleventh Hour 8 Vincent and the Doctor 9 the Girl in the Fireplace 10 Eve of the Daleks
My Top Ten from series 1 - 13 1st Heaven Sent 2nd Vincent and the Doctor 3rd Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead 4th The Angels Take Manhattan 5th A Good Man Goes To War 6th The Impossible Astronaut / Day Of The Moon 7th Amy's Choice 8th Hell Bent 9th The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances 10th The Power of the Doctor
Staggered that Dalek isn't listed. Turn Left is another great, and it amazes me that Cold War doesn't get more appreciation. Plus I love The Age Of Steel and The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit.
I think Midnight is the only one that’s missing that HAS to be on here, personally I’d have the Planet of the Ood, Dalek and maybe the God Complex as well, there were a few good series 8 eps that could have been on like Flatline and Under the Lake/Before the Flood that I really liked as well

We already know Blink is number one, it is iconic
On a delayed train ride a whoculture video really helps passing the times
Was anyone shocked with number 1? Ever since it aired it has topped these lists
"Heaven Sent" is my favorite episode of any TV series. And I'm not exactly young, so I've seen quite a bit. 😊
So many good choices, so many great episodes left off. The Zygon Inversion, A Good Man Goes To War, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords, The Family of Blood, so many more... God, I love this show. I might have to start a rewatch.
yeah, they shd have removed the 14th doctor ep and added one of this in, or at least vincent n the doctor, i rly liked that ep.
@@Bt-cq6te I don't necessarily think they should have left off 14, but 10 is just too short of a list for such a great series.
I don’t remember what the name of the episode is, but the one with The Flesh as the villain is excellent. It really gets into the notion of how we define what it means to be human.
The Rebel Flesh / The Almost People from Series 6.
Any episode with river in makes it an amazing episode
My favorite is her first but I like all of them
Great video Who Culture! My top 10 modern doctor who episodes are:
1) Rose
2) Rise of the Cybermen/ Age of Steel
3) Human Nature/ The Family of Blood
4) Midnight
5) The Eleventh Hour
6) The Rings of Akhaten
7) The Day of the Doctor
8) World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls
9) Spyfall: Part 1 and 2
10) The Power of the Doctor
But I also love the episodes Blink, The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone, and The Pilot! I think for me the russell t davies era is the best but I love the moffat era too! Thanks Ellie and Who Culture! 😊😊
Rise of the Cybermen, Akhaten, Spyfall, very unique list. Thanks for sharing!
@@WhoCulture I just find them really enjoyable and easy to rewatch! Their probably not everyone's cup of tea, but they're the ones that have stuck with me the most! 😊
Wot, no Zygon Inversion?!?! I shall write to my MP!!!
Something moffat doesn't always care to give us
It's a good list. I do wish there was a mention of Human Nature/The Family of Blood though.
That’s not an episode, though.
Agreed.
@@DrWhoFanJThere were 2 part stories on this list.
Very few people have mentioned 'Listen'. I love the fact that the plot is derived from the Doctor being bored and the it tells us more about the Doctor's history and character than all the Timeless Child nonsense.
10. The Zygon Inversion (S9 E8)
9. Face The Raven (S9 E10)
8. Doomsday (S2 E13)
7. Heaven Sent (S9 E11)
6. The Girl Who Waited (S6 E10)
5. The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon (S6 E1/2)
4. Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone (S6 E4/5)
3. The Angels Take Manhattan (S7 E5)
2. Midnight (S4 E10)
1. The Waters of Mars (Series 4 Special).
Hounourable Mentions
1. Day of the Doctor (Series 7 Specials)
2. Journey To The Centre of the TARDIS (S7 E11) - Say What You Want This Episode Is Amazing for Series 7 Standards and I personally enjoyed it
3. Silence In The Library/ Forest of the Dead (S4 E8/9) - Amazing, No.11 if there was one.
4. School Reunion - It's So Fun and Goofy
5. World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls - (S10 E11/12) Even better if Bill and Capaldi had another season (it would build up the arc and make the death of Bill sadder)
6. Extremis/The Pyramid at the End of The World, The Lie of the Land (S10 E6/7/8)
Explanations : Lots of Capaldi Episodes because Capaldi is the best Doctor.
Great list! Rose, Dalek, The Girl in the Fireplace, Turn Left, Listen, and Demons of the Punjab are also worthy of honorable mentions.
10. The Girl who Waited (S06E10)
9. The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit (S02E08+09)
8. Bad Wolf / The Parting of the Ways (S01E12+13)
7. Blink (S03E10)
6. World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls (S10E11+12)
5. The Waters of Mars (SpE03)
4. Dalek (S01E06)
🥉 Human Nature / The Family of Blood (S03E08+09)
🥈 Midnight (S04E10)

• Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead (S04E08+09)
• The Eleventh Hour (S05E01)
• Vincent and the Doctor (S05E10)
• The Day of the Doctor (50th Anniversary)
• Wild Blue Yonder (60th Anniversary E02)
🥇 *Heaven Sent (S09E11)*
I came to Dr Who pretty late, in the 2010s. 'Blink' and 'Silence in the Library/The Forest of the Death' were episodes which convinced me Dr Who was worth knowing :)
my favorite call back in the shows is when River is talking to Rory about her and the doctor meeting backwards and she said "One day i will see him and he wont have any idea who i am, and i think its going to kill me" ... that made my heart hurt thinking about the library
Top-10 episodes you didn't mention:
10: The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang
9: Listen
8: A Town Called Mercy
7: Turn Left
6: The Fires Of Pompeii
5: Amy's Choice
4: Dalek
3: The Doctor's Wife
2: The Girl In The Fireplace
1: HUMAN NATURE/THE FAMILY OF BLOOD
That’s 12 episodes, not 10.
@@DrWhoFanJok then, 10 stories
The video has three double episodes in its list, so I think it’s fair game to include other double episodes as alternatives. Otherwise, the video had 13 episodes…
Interesting, I hadn't heard of Fires of Pompeii or Town Called Mercy being in people's top 10
Not even an honourable mention for Dalek? The episode that brought back the most deadly race in the universe in such a big way?
I think you know when a doctor who episode is good when you can remember them from childhood
It's so funny to me how Steven Moffat almost entirely dominates this list. Just goes to show you how good his A game really is
Even better in hindsight after Chibnal and Russel T destroyed the entire franchise. Long live Moffat!

2. Human Nature/Family of Blood
3. Blink
4. Silent in the Libary

6. The Doctor Dances/the empty child

9: DALEK
10: Waters of Mars
11: A Good Man goes to War
12: Heaven Sent
13: The Power of The Doctor

9. Fathers Day
10. Turn Left, even if he barely appears in it, so let's say Blink as well for this
11. Angels Take Manhattan
12. Dark Watert Death in Heaven
13. Whichever one saw her off
14. The giggle
15. Devils Chord

@@nickloschen2717 It was an episode that played to Capaldis strengths as quite a dark doctor, and was a thrilling watch
Several episodes were definitely among the best, but, jeez, you just gave the title of "The Girl Who Waited" and I was nearly overcome with emotion.
Vincent & The Doctor should absolutely be on this list.
Great list!
"The Room of Easter Eggs..." LOL!!!! I never guess correctly on these things, but as you counted i knew No. 1 had to be "Blink!" I don't like list episodes, but I love "Doctor Who" and Who/Trek culture and Ellie, so THANKS for this!!!
7/10 Moffat-written episodes, and it doesn't even include:
1. The Girl in the Fireplace
2. The Pandorica Opens
3. A Christmas Carol
4. The Impossible Astronaut
5. Time of the Doctor
I've since seen good arguments against his tenure as showrunner, but damn that man can't half write Doctor Who. I sure hope RTD brings him back with him.
I was sat in my pitcch black room when you mentioned Silence in the Library. The vash nerada is by far the scariest thing to come out Dr Who. The water things (honeslty not sure what theyre called) are emminsly creepy but Im never in space so it doesnt scare me as much
They’re called “the Flood”. They were creepy for sure but the “Vashta Nerada” has to be the scariest aside from the unknown monster from “Midnight”.
Brilliant! Could you do a video about each Doctor’s best episode? (To save time you can just do NewWho)
I'm very happy to see The Girl Who Waited mentioned. That was one of the only episodes in series 6 that I even enjoyed. It was an incredibly well done episode.
Face the raven is one of the best companion death story
The Two Amys scene is my favorite.
Esp. the scene where the Doctor and Rory discuss the benefits (?) of Rory having "two wives" [and by implication doing them both]. That would probably never see broadcast in the US.
What's sad is that is the Amy those two arrived with
My wife used the Blink episode to get me hooked on the modern Dr. Who. Absolutely Brilliant 😊❤
just yesterday i watched Heaven Sent for the second time ever, and oh my god. i remember it being brilliant but it was even better than that, genuinely such an amazing and horrifying concept
Family of Blood? Utopia? Satan's Pit? End of Time? Midnight and Journey's End as well are more than honorable mentions
10: A Christmas Carol
9: Turn Left
8: Tooth and Claw
7: The Girl in the Fireplace
6: Oxygen
5: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
4: The Impossible Planet/
The Satan Pit
3: Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways
2: Heaven Sent
1: Dalek (best episode of the whole show IMO)
The Doctor Falls is one of those episodes that resonated with me because of that speech.
Waters of mars is a favorite of mine. All of the above but also because of the unexpected ending
I don't care what anyone says, but Midnight will always be my favourite Doctor Who episode, and the scariest.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances would be my favourite, followed by Dalek, Midnight and Blink.
Best season finale would be Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways.
none of jodie whittakers episodes deserve a place in this
Some great picks! My faves are
Midnight
Dalek
Silence in the library/forest of the dead
Impossible planet/satan pit
Waters of Mars

Every honorable mention was stronger than the Haunting of...whatever it was called (Chibnall episode names istg). In fact, every honorable mention was stronger than the entire Chibnall era
Cannot pick just 10, my favourites are (not in order):
Vincent
Heaven Sent
Empty child + Doctor dances
Girl in the Fireplace
Blink (this is number one ofc)
Midnight
Impossible planet + Satan pit
Turn left
Human nature + Family of blood
Magician's apprentice + Witch's familiar
Fires of Pompeii

God Complex (unpopular, but was very fun for me, liked the minotaur and the concept of rooms with fears)
Mummy on the Orient Express
Under the lake + Before the flood (Cass was an incredible character and was superbly acted)
Waters of Mars
The end of time (just because of Wilfred, hes the goat)
Thin ice
World enough and time + Doctor falls
Midnight is a top 3 episode for me.
You didn’t include Dalek?
The episode that introduced Daleks to a modern audience and Christopher Eccleston’s best episode.
TURN LEFT!!!! Two of the most beautiful timey wimey wibbly wobbly words in NuWho OF ALL TIME! Bring on Tennant and Tate!

10. Mummy on the Orient Express
I'm not sure how Dalek didn't make this list
The stolen earth / journeys end is my absolute favorite
The season one episode with the dalek in the lab is easily my number one
also the young amy in The Girl Who waited is not the REAL amy, she's the Doppleganger duplicate.....
The girl in the fireplace and dinosaurs on a spaceship are my all time favourites including doomsday and rise of silver cybermen episodes.
it is true that blink may be a really good episode for the first time you watch the episode but if not then lose too much. i think heaven sent maintain the feelings much more.
I still think that "Dalek" is the best episode of the new series. It not only showed the Daleks as a force to be feared but brought a wonderful end (?) of the time war.
I started Doctor who with " The Eleventh Hour" yes,it hooked me immediately and ive been watching since
The Stolen Earth and Journey's End is the best story!
It's my second favourite NuWho behind Turn Left.
It was a very powerful episode and one that The Doctor could not help because she would have changed the Future if she did.
for me the top five would be-
1- blink
2- silence in the library
3- waters of mars
4- the doctors wife
5- vincent and the doctor
The waters of Mars. Who would have thought that a single drop could be so deadly.
But if i really try to be objective and include others, it's
1 Blink
2 Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
3 Midnight
4 Heaven Sent
5 The Empty Child / the Doctor Dances
6 The waters of Mars
7 The Eleventh Hour
8 Vincent and the Doctor
9 the Girl in the Fireplace
10 Eve of the Daleks
My Top Ten from series 1 - 13
1st Heaven Sent
2nd Vincent and the Doctor
3rd Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
4th The Angels Take Manhattan
5th A Good Man Goes To War
6th The Impossible Astronaut / Day Of The Moon
7th Amy's Choice
8th Hell Bent
9th The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances
10th The Power of the Doctor
Matts 2 part episode with the angels is my fav of all time
Staggered that Dalek isn't listed.
