Great video guys. Texas has a unique setup in that most colleges & universities don’t allow dorms past Freshman year. Is this the case at Texas Tech? If not, which dorms accommodate 3rd & 4th year students? Thanks!

A year late, but to answer the question:
Yes. Students have the option to stay on campus past freshman year. As an undergrad, one can stay in almost all of the available dorms, with the exception of West Village B (Graduate).
In my personal experience, I stayed in Coleman (part of the first group of dorms discussed) my first year, Clement (the second group) my second year, West Village A Upper Class (which was not mentioned, but is similar to Murray and Talkington but newer), and Murray for summer semesters. As a graduate student, I’ll be staying in West Village B (Graduate) which offers single and double suite style rooms.
I was always partial to West Village over all other dorms as it offers the most privacy, space and accommodations. While there is a small dining hall attached, there is also a full kitchen included in the suite. The only drawback is that it’s isolated from the rest of campus, being on the far west side of campus (west of Texas Tech Parkway). Better still, West Village B (Graduate) offers the same amenities as West Village A while also including your own washer and dryer and the option of a one person suite (no roommates). Most suite style dorms (assuming Texas Tech hasn’t changed their policy) are not available to freshmen.

@@travis2710 How was Coleman? Do you recommend it at all? Right now I'm at Knapp, but I'm not so sure about it and was thinking of switching over, but after seeing the video I don't know what to do haha

@@az7900 I actually stayed in Coleman my freshman year and the hallways are smaller but the dorms are the same size. What i did like however was how close the basketball stadium as well as the rec was. Also Sam’s place right next to Coleman is the only one open till 2 if I remember correctly so if you want a snack while staying up late studying they are open.

@@az7900 It really depends on what you need out of your dorm. I enjoyed living there because, as an architecture student, I didn’t have to walk very far to get to my classes. Also, since I had a room on the seventh floor, I got a nice view of Lubbock. However, it is a little cut off and secluded from the rest of campus life. If your biggest need is dining, Sam’s West is right there and is the only dining to stay open until 2 AM. The rec is also close by if you are more interested in that. What is did like at Coleman over dorms like Helen/Clement was that, at least when I lived there, there was a laundry room for each floor, rather than a singular one in the basement.
Again, it really depends on what your needs are and what kind of living arrangement you prefer. Coleman is like most traditional dorms, so it really comes down to what places on campus you want quick access to and what dorm best serves your campus lifestyle. I have personally never been in Knapp, so I don’t know how Coleman compares to it. Good luck on whatever dorm you choose.
