- For our first “Royal Key” episode of 2022, we trek to Lubbock, Texas to check out one of the newest basketball-specific facilities in the nation, the Womble Basketball Center. Home to both the Texas Tech men’s and women’s basketball programs, this $32.2M, state-of-the-art facility is now a day-to-day home for player development and strength and conditioning workouts and expands over 59,000 square feet. The new facility also places great emphasis on the latest and greatest in technology with a little less than 100 television/video monitors throughout the facility, including an enormous video board in both practice gyms. I lived in the dorm down the parkway when it began construction and I had never seen it.

It’s crazy how much Tech has improved even since I graduated in 2011. The Womble is amazing 🔥
I was a laborer there while it was being built. The way the floor was done and the paint applied was amazing.. it was all done by hand! I have pics while it was being done also of both inside and outside of facility.

I was just there during Christmas break, I got the chance to meet Shannon and I took a picture with him. The Womble is one of the holy grails of Texas Tech Sports for sure!

Texas Tech has come a long way since I was there and I graduated only 7 years ago
West Texas oil money is starting to flow in. It ain't just A&M and Texas anymore. UH also upgraded a ton. Beautiful facilities.
Truth be told, the new Big 12 will be on par with the ACC in terms of a basketball confrence. Legit programs are coming in, and with BYU, Cincy, UH. Top to bottom, it's a solid basketball confrence.

The old place was horrible. This looks amazing. My good friend. Junior High & high school teammate played for Texas Tech in the mid 90’s. He left me tickets at Willcall a couple times in Lubbock back in the day. Lance Hughes #4 He’s still 8th or 9th all time scoring & Won the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest 1995. Pretty cool.
