    So! Some things to know.
Brooks pitched this to Lucas, who agreed to help him by providing access to some assets from ILM.
While Lucas _did_ agree to help Brooks, part of the deal was that he couldn't have Lonestar dressed like Han... so Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones instead.
The guy in that Pizza the Hutt outfit supposedly actually got burns from it.
The reason the jam was raspberry flavored is so that Lonestar could 'give him the raspberry' (also known as 'blowing a raspberry').
The door falling onto Moranis was apparently an accident... and they kept it because it was awesome.
The approach to Yogurt's statue mirrors a scene from The Wizard of Oz.
'Schwartz' was the name of Mel Brooks' lawyer at the time, so 'never underestimate the power of the Schwartz'.
_Also_ as part of the deal with Lucas, Brooks could _not_ do any merchandising, which is why that joke (and all the product placements) are there.
The guy who says "we ain't found shit" later on played Tuvoc of Star Trek: Voyager.
The doll scene with Moranis wasn't part of the script, it was ad-libbed just before filming.
The Millennium Falcon was in the parking lot of the diner, on the right side.
The song and dance is a reference to Michigan J Frog from Looney Toons. Searching that on RUclips will give you a ton of references.
As for movies to watch, more Mel Brooks wouldn't hurt (Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein come instantly to mind), but I would _also_ suggest Airplane and Top Secret above those... y'know, if ya like laughing at all.

didn't George wrote "funny, do it" under the script and sent it back to Mel?

First I'm hearing of _that_ one, but I _have_ heard that after seeing the finished product he said he might have had a medical issue from laughing so hard. Didn't put that in, 'cause I don't think it helps with the understanding or appreciation of the movie. That _someone else_ found it funny doesn't mean two rat farts to _me_ or _you,_ but I think _everything else_ I mentioned about it has an impact, making things funnier if it's known about.

"We're not just doing this for money. We're doing it for a SHIT LOAD of money!"
    That's a good enough reason in this sci-fi comedy classic. 😎 👍
Fun Fact: The scene in which Dark Helmet is playing with his dolls was not in the screenplay. Writer, producer, and director Mel Brooks came up with the idea on the set one day and told this to Rick Moranis, who then improvised the entire scene.
Location Location Fact: The castle on the planet Druidia is King Ludwig II's Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. It has been modified by matte painting with additional ramps. Neuschwanstein Castle has been featured in many motion pictures, and it is the original inspiration for all Disney theme park castles.
Wookieepedia Connection Fact: The Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars saga makes a cameo appearance in this movie. Take a close look at the exterior shot of the Space Diner, and it can be spotted parked there among the other space vehicles. George Lucas got a chance to read the screenplay before production began, and loved it so much that he decided to have his special effects company, Industrial Light & Magic, help make this movie.

Looking for movie suggestions? I was once asked to suggest '90 comedies, so while looking over the list I noticed some underrepresented comedies of the 90s that is hardly seen here on RUclips:
    Ghost Dad (1990)
    My Blue Heaven (1990)
    Dutch (1991)
    King Ralph (1991)
    Only The Lonely (1991)
    Other People's Money (1991)
    Pure Luck (1991)
    Suburban Commando (1991)
    Bebe's Kids (1992)
Boris And Natasha: The Movie (1992)
    Captain Ron (1992)
    Love Potion No. 9 (1992)
    Stay Tune (1992)
    Airheads (1994)
    Cabin Boy (1994)
    Ckerks (1994)
    Major Payne (1995)
    Get Shorty (1995)
    Tank Girl (1995)
Beavis And Butt-Head Do America (1996)
    Joe's Apartment (1996)
    McHale's Navy (1997)
Some good, some bad, but all of them unique.
