    I have the previous gen of this laptop with a 5700U/16GB and I love it. I don't see any reason to upgrade to the 2022 model since there really isn't a spec bump. Battery life is amazing and I can easily get over 10 hours with this laptop. I guess Lenovo did a mid-cycle refresh to bring the old chassis up to a 5500U/5700U instead of the 4650U.

    Hey Josh, could you explain why in 2020 99% of reviewers raved over gaming laptop screens for professional video editors that were 100% SRGB and 78% Adobe but now all of a sudden it's not acceptable? I love your reviews more than most it just seems like reviewers want you to spend $1.5k on a laptop to video edit when that's just not the case.

    For the pen: typically artists prefer more friction rather than it being too smooth. I have the previous Yoga 6 (already with the Ryzen 5500U, but still with the old chassis that has the 16:9 screen), and the screen is a bit TOO smooth for the included pen. I had to buy the HP Rechargeable Active Stylus G3, which is compatible, and includes softer pen tips that generate more friction to comfortably use the pen for drawing.
    That being said, the implementation of the Wacom AES pen digitizer is one of the better ones, with much reduced line jitter. Usually the test goes: use a ruler to draw diagonal lines slowly - in many digitizers, this will not generate a smooth line, but have "pen wobble", despite using a ruler. In many HP implementations of Wacom AES, and more prevalent in N-Trig devices which use Microsoft's Surface Pen, this pen wobble is rather high (the only exception is Microsoft's Surface devices which have this more under control). Also, Samsung's S Pen tech (which uses Wacom EMR, which is technologically more similar to how their professional line of pen displays/pen tablets work) is still in a class of its own (as is the Apple Pencil, but that isn't actually used in any laptops).

    About the SD card reader, I've actually haven't had a full size SD card in hand for years and really appreciate the micro sd slot in my laptop when reading the card from an android phone or flashing one for a raspberry pi. I guess SD cards are only really common when dealing with camera footage nowadays and a lot of people just don't do that anymore and use their phone.

I sometimes wish there was a slightly brighter screen though because it sometimes gets annoying when the sun shines on my screen and it is harder to see stuff on the screen. I uninstalled any McAfee related stuff as soon as I got to the desktop. I still really like this laptop though for its size, its performance and its keyboard. It was definitely an upgrade over my old 2011 HP pavillion dv6 (which has a completely dead battery). It has a 2nd gen Intel core i5 which i got in christmas 2022. I use my current laptop with a wireless mouse. The one i have btw has the aluminium lid.

    as someone who doesn’t have low disposable income, I wouldn’t even consider this laptop “budget” since $600+ is still quite expensive especially something that might have slightly shoddy build quality that will reveal itself in the future.
    Maybe a better title would be “best overall value” since it’s quite powerful, quite portable, could be used as a 2 in 1, decent screen and decent battery life without having to spend $1000+.
    Also an SD card reader of some kind is pretty much necessary for anything to be budget especially when the successor comes out a year later where the older laptop will be heavily discounted while being sold with lower specs such as the lowest capacity SSD. micro SD cards can be found for cheap.

    What universe are we living in where a budget laptop is not only priced at *$600* but it's only good for basic tasks like web browsing and office work, even overheating during Zoom calls??? The PC market makes me so mad these days. I don't understand why ARM processors don't see more widespread use in the laptop market instead... Apple has shown that this is the way forward.

    • @prispalos
      @prispalos 2 года назад +2

      I seriously cannot fathom that $600 is considered "budget." My whole PC cost around $500 in 2017 and it's more capable than most $800 laptops these days. And even then, $500 is a difficult pricetag for many families!

    • @User-cb4jm
      @User-cb4jm 2 года назад +4

      What do you expect from a budget laptop (and yes it is a budget laptop)? $600 devices are more capable now with better battery life than $600 devices have ever been - it’s not long ago they came equipped with slow spinning hard drives and 1366x768 TN screens. Apple Silicon is amazing even at the $1k price tag and puts anything in its category to shame - but this is almost half the price and capable enough so give it a rest.

    • @User-cb4jm
      @User-cb4jm 2 года назад +1

      @@prispalos desktops are cheaper than laptops - you don’t have to worry about battery life or thermals, just chuck a functioning CPU with a cheap monitor and keyboard and there you go.

    • @KalosLikesComputers
      @KalosLikesComputers 2 года назад +3

      @@User-cb4jm It makes absolutely no sense for laptops to be so expensive when they are so cheaply built with such horrible screens and inadequate cooling solutions. Not to mention that anything below the $600 price tag goes into the Celeron Hell territory. Laptop prices are ridiculously inflated because Intel and AMD can charge whatever they want for their processors and it's hurting the consumer. I seriously find it hard to believe that you have to spend over *half a thousand* dollars (Euro where I live, also this is more than a monthly paycheck) just to have a computer for *BASIC TASKS*.

    • @User-cb4jm
      @User-cb4jm 2 года назад +2

      @@KalosLikesComputers agreed but when was it any better? $500 laptops were categorically slower and worse years ago than they are today, do people forget the computers that used to take minutes not seconds just to start up and log in and have 2 hours battery life? Now someone spending the same money gets a device that responds instantly with the press of a button, has a capacious SSD, doesn’t chug and has 7 hours of battery life along with a IPS 1080p screen and a backlit keyboard. Yes we can do better, and competition means a win for the consumer but it’s ridiculous to say you could pay the same amount of money years ago and get a better laptop. Absolutely false. Even then that’s the beauty of competition, if this is mediocre, count on another brand to do better than them for this price in a month or two.

    @Josh, this is a very minor update over the actual 2021 model, which was already refreshed with Lucienne based Zen2+ processors, 5500u and 5700u and has the same internal cooling solution. The only difference in 2022 model is the 16:10 display. HP Pavilion Aero is a far superior product because it already comes with Zen 3 Cezanne chips, 5800u and 5600u, which even at the lower TDP configuration in these super slim chassis, are superior to Zen 2 refreshes, both in single and multi core performance. On top of that Aero 13 has a far brighter display, going 470 nits, higher than its rated 400 nits. Costco now selling the highest spec model at $650 (5800u, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD, backlit kb) which already making it better performing but cheaper than this 2022 yoga 13. Lenovo could atleast update it to Zen 3 based Cezanne chips.

    Does it have the same hinge design as the older yoga and ideapad laptops? There was a gaint design fault where the stiff hinges are attached with glue rather then screws and it would come loose and break off. In 90% of the cases Lenovo never admitted there fault , even under warranty, and you had to pay full price for the repair. I had mine break after 6 months! You can look up videos made on youtube about it and all the posts on there support forum. If it has the same design i would NOT recommend this laptop or any lenovo laptop with this design flaw.

    How can someone still be recommending this thing when there are ongoing class action lawsuits over those hinges designs. Yes, the screen is poorly attached, people ended up with broken screens and exploded hinges because of that.

    I have the current 2021 Yoga 6 model, which, interestingly, comes with an AMD 5500 processor (not the 4550). I love it and have had no major issues. This one appears to have a number of useful upgrades, but I'm sad that they abandoned the fabric cover. It's distinctive and one of the things I like best about the current model!
