Tudor is the only kid still concerned with the art. The rest seem like they’re more concerned with trying to fly than ever learning to crawl. I’ve hated seeing surfing turn into skateboard jump ramping. Maybe I’m old, but watching Tom Curren cutback is far more impressive to me, or, Slater’s masterfully effortless top to bottom surfing without the frills. I used to do a bit of dancing and always hated seeing kids dancing too fast, trying crazy spins and dips before they even had a nice footwork or the basic turns mastered. I was the kid who could tre flip anything on a skateboard but couldn’t do solid ollies I was proud of in transitions in the park; skipped ahead too much. Made the same mistakes in weight training too, overlooking all the little stuff; paying the price now. THE LITTLE STUFF IS EVERYTHING! So hat off to Baby Tudor. 👏
Joel Tudor, Slater, Curren, Occy, JJF, AI. These are all surfers that are one of a kind and can't be replicated when tried. And like you said, it's not because of airs. Looks like Tosh is following in his dads footsteps...I think JJF could win a world title without ever doing an air. Thoughts?
@@OffDaLip yeah, JJF really took the time to master the little stuff that makes surfing what it’s meant to be: about the soul! JJF reads the waves and paints the line with his soul, much in the way the guys you mention do/did. I think had he stayed away from the generational air contests, he could’ve avoided that knee injury and kept titles in the WSL more about the soul. I think for a moment he had the power to do that and was sort of expected to. I’m more bummed that surfing is becoming skateboard jump ramping of the late 80s, and that the Brazos are making that style, more and more, a measuring standard for world titles. Airs are great, but they don’t demonstrate one’s soul connection with the nuances of each wave. I’ve watched clips of Tom Curren at 50, doing a tiny speed checks at the lip, a thousand times, and something like that, to me, just has sooooo much more flavor. These guys here are great surfers don’t get me wrong, I just personally am not captivated by surfing that doesn’t seem to measure the wave, inch by inch, for creative, casual, flow. You know who bridges this gap for me a bit more, Mason Ho. He’s got the right flow between soul and just air shows. JJF too, but I’d really like to see him more in a traditional roll like Tosh, demonstrating the roots and essence of surfing at its finest, into the future.

Noah was tricking it up for sure good surfing.But in my eyes Barron was laying down the rail like a man.No disrespect to Noah,Eli and the boys but Barron got that man rail game CT rail game.
Def agree. Barron has all the makings of a top 10 surfer, and potentially even a world champ, imo 🤙
