Cypriots were displaced and refugees themselves in 1974.
Most stayed in tents before rebuilding homes and the economy.
I don't remember the rest of the world dishing out houses. They had to cope in bad conditions.

They all know they are coming to Cyprus. The vast majority arrive in the occupied territory. Some through traffickers and some apply for study in the occupied area. As soon as they arrive, they make their way to the legitimate side of Cyprus knowing full well that the Cypriot authorities are obligated to process them as ‘asylum seekers’ if that is what they say they claim. The route into the EU via Cyprus will be very well known in the Middle East and African countries. They are educated on what to say and how to behave in order to secure asylum. They already know to say “I have no idea which country I am in” and to act emotionally to garner sympathy. It’s a racket that is completely out of control. Historically, Cyprus has been at the hands of invasion after invasion. We’re still living in a politically divided island and the only sympathy should be with the Cypriot people (both Greek and Turkish) at having to deal with this onslaught of economic migrants. The very fabric of the Cypriot society is being forced to change. This is not a ‘black’ vs ‘white’ issue as some of the interviewees are saying. It’s a new invasion of people that were not invited and have become a burden on the Cypriot infrastructure.

Problematic situation for Cyprus. If they improve the conditions for these refugees they won't stop on coming, and it's very easy to enter an island... But what i don't understand why people who aren't running from a life threatening situation needs asylum in the first place? Every country on this earth have their fair share of addicts and poor who are in a dire need of shelter and food. I think that the money needs to be diverted to these people rather than an "asylum" seekers who seek to improve his economic opportunity...

Making a living and being an investor is ‘greed’ as you put it. Building a life like this takes capital and risk. As a landlord, I have to protect my investments if I am to survive. I don’t care who I rent to if they are respectful of my property and pay their rent on time. If the Cypriot government is not processing rent as they should, then there is no way I will put people up, for free. Would you?

The hardest is an island and it's impossible to have the hope to live their dreams and to go to other European countries to be safe and winter everyone knows what it is 'is . an exaggerated racism towards the Syrians and the Cypriot state which refuses to give them the money of houses yet it is the European Union which gives this money. 😢😢

It is a tiny island known as the aircraft carrier its so small. It's demographics are changing with so many people coming. It now looks like africa when you walk down the street instead of a Greek/turkish cypriot island.
We don't have the jobs or infrastructure to cope.
Of course people want to help others in need but no country wants to find all jobs and homes filled by non-citizens.
Then we get the situation we have now and never had before....which is cypriot citizens living on the street and in cars because they have lost their jobs and can't find new ones because migrants have them.
Perhaps no longer being able to be paid in cash may sort it out. Who knows.
Also last year migrants were in gangs causing damage to shops, smashing things, stealing and being a nuisance to young girls on beaches.....including a 14 yr old girl.
