Cypriots were displaced and refugees themselves in 1974. Most stayed in tents before rebuilding homes and the economy. I don't remember the rest of the world dishing out houses. They had to cope in bad conditions.
The usual outrageous sense of entitlement . I have a RIGHT to a free house and money !! Oh, yes I'm a Math and Physics graduate from university ......did I mention that ?
They all know they are coming to Cyprus. The vast majority arrive in the occupied territory. Some through traffickers and some apply for study in the occupied area. As soon as they arrive, they make their way to the legitimate side of Cyprus knowing full well that the Cypriot authorities are obligated to process them as ‘asylum seekers’ if that is what they say they claim. The route into the EU via Cyprus will be very well known in the Middle East and African countries. They are educated on what to say and how to behave in order to secure asylum. They already know to say “I have no idea which country I am in” and to act emotionally to garner sympathy. It’s a racket that is completely out of control. Historically, Cyprus has been at the hands of invasion after invasion. We’re still living in a politically divided island and the only sympathy should be with the Cypriot people (both Greek and Turkish) at having to deal with this onslaught of economic migrants. The very fabric of the Cypriot society is being forced to change. This is not a ‘black’ vs ‘white’ issue as some of the interviewees are saying. It’s a new invasion of people that were not invited and have become a burden on the Cypriot infrastructure.
Problematic situation for Cyprus. If they improve the conditions for these refugees they won't stop on coming, and it's very easy to enter an island... But what i don't understand why people who aren't running from a life threatening situation needs asylum in the first place? Every country on this earth have their fair share of addicts and poor who are in a dire need of shelter and food. I think that the money needs to be diverted to these people rather than an "asylum" seekers who seek to improve his economic opportunity...

I went on holiday there and if I was an asylum seeker, I wouldn’t want be there. It’s not the best place to be, I would be rather be suffering in my country.
In limassol there are homeless Cypriot citizens in the streets. Never heard of before. There are people living in cars with children. There are old people in makeshift camps in fields and the gov knows.
@@da-runxofficial8254 Then why did they not go to a neighboring country to seek asylum? Why did they skip 100 countries and came to another continent? They are obviously economic migrants. Cyprus is already taking care a lot of Syrian refugees who actually flee war and are neighbors of Cyprus.
It's not that people don't want to rent to asylum seekers but how are you going to pay the rent by living 20 to a house and it's that they don't want 20 to live in their house
when I lived in Cyprus, only legal work they could do on a asylum seeker was farm work? is that still the case? alot of Cypriot landlords don't like renting ti foreigners, esp asylum seekers, when I was out there. rent is high, income is low. it's greed.

Making a living and being an investor is ‘greed’ as you put it. Building a life like this takes capital and risk. As a landlord, I have to protect my investments if I am to survive. I don’t care who I rent to if they are respectful of my property and pay their rent on time. If the Cypriot government is not processing rent as they should, then there is no way I will put people up, for free. Would you?

Asylum seekers in Cyprus is far better than here in Canada Toronto ruclips.net/video/goWh3w39B38/видео.htmlsi=zlVNkmLprLaR3bQW I feel ashamed as a Canadian to what is happening here for those people. How can you permit people to relocate to this country and not support them to settle 😢
You started this problem by welcoming "Economic Migrants" and now thanks tomyiunitbis totally out of control...they are ruining the demographics of Cyprus.....you have created a monster!!!
It is very hard and complicated their situations seen that it is a country of European union they do not care about people seen that they are black. unfair that. The hardest is an island and it's impossible to have the hope to live their dreams and to go to other European countries to be safe and winter everyone knows what it is 'is . an exaggerated racism towards the Syrians and the Cypriot state which refuses to give them the money of houses yet it is the European Union which gives this money. 😢😢
secimozgur there’s no such country. How ignorant of you. It’s just Cyprus. There’s not south Cyprus, neither north Cyprus. The only internationally recognised state in The island is the Republic of Cyprus, most commonly referred to as Cyprus.
We are all human & we should love & respect everyone. Cyprus gets money from EU to support asylum seekers but the government doesn’t distribute the money to seekers. Cyprus does have prejudice against colour people.
It is a tiny island known as the aircraft carrier its so small. It's demographics are changing with so many people coming. It now looks like africa when you walk down the street instead of a Greek/turkish cypriot island. We don't have the jobs or infrastructure to cope. Of course people want to help others in need but no country wants to find all jobs and homes filled by non-citizens. Then we get the situation we have now and never had before....which is cypriot citizens living on the street and in cars because they have lost their jobs and can't find new ones because migrants have them. Perhaps no longer being able to be paid in cash may sort it out. Who knows. Also last year migrants were in gangs causing damage to shops, smashing things, stealing and being a nuisance to young girls on beaches.....including a 14 yr old girl.

Unmumsy Musings - Josephine_kk I’ve noticed most delivery people are migrants.
That sucks. In no time Cyprus will be a black country with people running around murdering each other for scraps of food.
