the "tell your mum not to slap me" is a reference to previous seasons where he has been slapped by companions mothers. its almost become a running joke lmao.
Keep in mind, the "monster" never hurt anyone. It was designed to be scary, but it never actually harmed anyone. That's why the Doctor and even the babies thought it deserved to be saved: you don't kill someone just because they're different or scary.
@@DaxRaider The Doctor has *always* given the monsters a chance before hurting or killing them. Always, at least since 2005. Hell, he even offered the Racnoss queen a chance before destroying her, and he let the Sycorax go and was angry when humans killed them. This "monster" never hurt anyone; in what universe would the Doctor of all people kill something harmless just because it's scary?
Don't mind about snoby people. Ncuti run is a great start point. That's fine that you don't know previous things. It designed to be comfortable for nooby.
This is meant to be a starting point for Who. Old fans know the back story, but the writer is including bits and pieces of the back story in the script so you can pick it up. There are jokes and references for those who know but they are not critical to the story line. My favorite reference this episode is at the end when the Dr. asks Ruby to make sure her Mom won't slap him. Dr. Who has endured multiple slaps from protective Moms who do not think much of his taking their daughters away and into danger. He has started to become very wary of the Moms.
It's nice to see different reactions. I wanted to watch long time fan like me get the inside jokes and compare different eras. I also want to watch a new person experience the Whoniverse for the first time with Ruby. So thank you for this! Great reaction, ignore fandom gatekeepers.
dont worry about the people bugging you about watching the old seasons, I believe that season 14 is technically a type of soft reboot, just like "season 1" was also a soft reboot
Firstly: I'm new here (just watched the Ruby Road reaction) but I already like you. Charismatic, energetic, positive and good looking. On to my real comment. I remember when Tennant was new. *some* people were furious that we already had a new doctor. Some people said he was far too young, and The Doctor should be older. Some people were annoyed that a scottish man was playing The Doctor. NOW he is one of the most iconic Doctor's in the franchise to the point that he has been called back multiple times. I for one will be giving Ncuti a chance because everything I said about you at the top of the comment can also be said about him. Charismatic, energetic, positive, good looking. I believe he will grow in to the part, just like Tennant and Smith, and just like Tom Baker and Perter Davidson did before them. Every doctor since Hartnell has needed some time to truly become The Doctor, so let's le Ncuti cook and see what we get.
Even as brief as it is, "Doctor Who" could never have afforded to do the scene with non-avian dinosaurs in their natural environment before this season. "Doctor Who" writers have been wanting to do that for decades, and they never could before. Similarly, the Bogeyman would not have looked as good at any previous point in the show's history. The three episodes immediately prior to "Ruby Road" are also on Disney Plus, but, as good as they are, you'll probably want to go further back than that the first time you delve into the show's history. If I'm not mistaken, the episodes from 2005 to 2022 are on Max, while those from 1963 to 1989 are on BritBox (without ads) and Tubi TV (with ads). [Edited to correct "2023" to "2022".]
Omg, I'd like to apologize on behalf of all Whovians. With a show this huge it's only natural that people will start out at different points. I'm just happy to see new people discovering this brilliant show.
The silliest of silliest episodes 😂 Not my fave episode, but far from the worst. To be honest, I am having a ton of fun watching other ppl's reactions to this one. The Devil's Chord (up next) jumps up levels in quality, and I adored it. That said, I am SUPER excited to see Boom next week. Thank you for creating these reactions, and don't think we haven't noticed that you kinda said (twice) that you MIGHT.. EVENTUALLY.. go back and watch from the 9th Doctor 😇
Whovians have a cycle that repeats every regeneration of "I hate this new Doctor! The old Doctor was better! I didn't know if I can continue watching!" To, often just a few episodes later, "ok, this Doctor is fine...", and usually eventually "this Doctor is amongst my favorites!". We all end up with an ever changing list, in my case currently it's 10, 12, 11, 14 (only a few episodes), 5, 9, 8 (only had 1 episode, might get higher), 13,... The same can be said for companions, we all have a constantly in Flux (pun) list of favorites. In my case it's Martha, Clara, Bill, Donna, Amy and Rory (together), Ruby (with potential to go up), Rory (alone), Amy (alone), Tegan, Sarah Jane, all the others, Rose.
I'm so excited for you getting to know Doctor Who, especially NOW, at this moment in its history. Ncuti is already a LEGEND! I'm looking forward to all your future reactions! Much ❤
Na, listen to no one who criticises Ncuti or the show. Just go for the positive and watch just as you did with an open heart and enjoy. Don't give any time or space to that negativity. It's a whole load of double standards, ignorance and hate. Embrace from where you are is fine, no need to watch any other. In the longer run, cool, go back a bit and see what everyone is talking about prior to if you want. But I'd argue that may not be as rewarding to some modern viewers who may just like where the show is at now in terms of budget and ideas and feel. I'm just very glad to see you doing this. Thanks. Welcome aboard. This show has been a part of my life for over fifty years (I know, right) that's HOW special it is to me and hopefully may become to you.
You picked the best place to start. I've been watching this since I was 4, in 1980, back when Tom Baker was the current doctor. I have watched through the whole series so many times, particularly classic series because it has existed longer. I was watching through before all the missing episodes had reconstructions. My first experience of Dalek Master Plan was a multi-gen audio cassette while reading the camera script for 10 of the 12 episodes. I'm quite a massive fan to put it lightly. I'm telling you, you picked the PERFECT point to jump on for new fans. That is absolutely what I would recommend starting with. If you had asked me about it beforehand, I would have said start with Church on Ruby Road, 100%. Don't even watch the 3 anniversary specials yet. Just watch this season, and take it all in. Then after that, you can look into watching some of the earlier stuff. I certainly have a lot of opinions on where to start. But all that can wait.
I don’t know about anyone else but I think Ncuti fits right in with the other Doctors from his first full episode. The actors who have played the character tend to do their homework and check out some of what came before and then spin something new with it that also fits in with the overall show. Some people like some Doctors more than others but it’s kind of weirdly amazing that everyone who’s had a go at playing the Doctor has fit the part like a glove. I think. The show really shouldn’t have worked as well as it has for sixty years, but here we are. 😃 Later - actually, there is something “X-Files”-y about “Who” on occasion, or the other way around, but not all the time. During the early ‘70s the people making decisions about “Doctor Who” decided in the world of the show to exile the Doctor to earth so they could save production money by not building alien planets every week and the Doctor would go around then contemporary Earth foiling alien invasions and fiendish mad scientist plots and whatnot. I think we’re gonna get a taste of that part of the show’s history later this season, but I could be wrong - I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers. A bit.
Because the Doctor can go anywhere in time and space, "Doctor Who" can do literally any genre. So there have been episodes similar to "The X-Files," but also episodes similar to "Star Trek," "Gunsmoke," "24," and so on, all while remaining "Doctor Who."
Yup people in this fandom are ridiculously extreme sometimes! there's always the "current showrunner/doctor is the worst showrunner/doctor" and that seems to be continuing with ncuti's era unfortunately. But the people who hate it are mainly a very loud minority within the fandom, for every weird comment there's like several hundred other people who are just totally normal lol, reminds me of when The Star Beast aired and articles were written about the "100" complaints about having a trans character on screen out of several million viewers lmao
Oh love the different thinking. Whovians just wonder who she is and think about every female character from who history who could fit, you thjnk maybe it's not her mum. Never thought of that

For people who don't like Ncuti there's 3 kinds. And good riddance to the first two. Racists (bc kidney with new colors is fine but different skin is an issue??), queer phobes, they're so ridiculous the doctor has been quite flamboyant for a long time, and people who just need time to get used to the new Doctor.
