Absurdly good review and step by step guidance series of 3 videos. Fantastic job.
hey, thank you very much 🤩
Watched all 3. Fantastic review! Very in depth without being overkill. I am ordering mine now. Thanks for the review!
Many Thanks 🤩🕹
Thank you, this is absolutely fantastic...all three videos.
You're welcome 🥳
Best soft soft tutorial for beginners on RUclips! I'm an absolute beginner and all the other tutorials I've found on RUclips have been so
Thank you for your feedback 🤗🚀
I just got my VKB NXT EVO's in the mail, both left and right are premium version. It is also a different firmware version from the standard NXT which is now discontinued. so they need to be added to the list. calibration still seemed to work fine using the firmware that came with joysticks, also mapping still seem to work with the new EVO's, just need to learn them. so far so good. Thanks for doing all the work on this, much appreciated !!!!
as soon as i have my evos there will of course also be an update for it and an evo mapping 🚀
This. Is. Incredible. I am about to dive head first into getting this sticks and really getting into Star Citizen after playing for a little with a ~15 year old stick and throttle with ~10 buttons 0_0..
Thank you for such a great, detailed series of these controllers. I cannot thank you enough for how detailed everything is in this series. Takes away almost all of the confusion with everything. Litterally going to use your exact configuration. While it is going to be some time till I can even order these sticks, I cannot wait and can rest easy knowing these videos are up!!
Again, THANK YOU!!!!
you're welcome jack, I'm so glad it helped you 🤗
@@MrKarolinger Finally got my sticks and followed the guide to get everything set up however the buttons in game are flipped expect for physically flying. For example, my left stick still does thrust and everything however my left trigger fires my guns and not the right trigger. Any ideas of what this could be or what im potentially doing wrong?
@@jackdavis8926 did you figure this out? If not, I don't mind helping
@TheBinklemNetwork So I have the mouse setup properly; however, I had to disable my mouse flying and I still can't use the mouse in the cockpit. I can only look around. Any idea how to fix this?
you can make the short click on the mini stick left click and long press to change between hat and mouse mode, just set it to tempo B in the software and set the button as left mouse click, I also do this on my left handed stick to use either as a mouse or hat l/buttons but it's short press for tempo b is right click to have full mouse functionality and lose as little buttons as possible
thanks for the tip 👍
I LOVE that mini-mouse function. Very nice
I also find it very useful 👍
If I can't remember the jobs my wife asks me to do, how am I expected to remember keymaps for SC.I need the keymaps printed out, laminated, and placed above my monitor.
or as a mini sticker on the stick itself. we are working on it 😇
Second monitor
Really thinking about getting this stick setup (but with the left one having the omni mount to hold it at an angle), this seems really complicated to get working, but I think these videos have been amazing. If I do end up buying them, I'm coming back here!
You're welcome and if you have any questions, feel free to drop by the discord 🥳
What a great video series! Thanks a lot!
🥳
Very nice review and information.
Thank you 🥳
@Karolinger While I'm here replying to @Trent Lawson, I decided I'd take a moment to give an update to my original post. First, I realized my initial post tends to be negative. I didn't intend that because I really, really like the VKB products! I ended up highlighting the negative things because, I guess, I feel like the positives are already so well known and advertised while I've never found anyone listing VKB's weaknesses. Really! These are great products! Additionally, your video about the configurations of VKB are the best I've found. Keep up the awesome work! I look forward to more VKB related vids from you!
.
Preface: While this part contains my negative findings, I want to say the parts are all very high quality and I highly recommend most VKB products wholeheartedly (except for their Stronghold mounts). I only complain because I will NOT give up my VKB modules and would love to see some solutions and perhaps further upgrades in the future! Hopely this isn't contradictory. Despite my complaints below, I encourage anyone to get these VKB items, especially the new Gladiator EVO with or without the Omni Throttle option! It's fantastic, very high quality, and very easy to configure by itself. My favorite upgrade in the EVO is the ability to add easily customizable "dampening" to the movements of the flight stick while still retaining full useage of the springs. The best way I can describe it is it is sort of like adding shocks to springs. :)
.
I received my new VKB Gladiator EVO Omni Throttle (I'll simply call it "EVO") a few days after my post here (as well as spare springs), mid June 2022. It's a nice upgrade to the orignal Gladiator. IMHO, it's not worth upgrading an existing Gladiator to the EVO version, although even I am tempted to do so for the dampening. I now have my original Gladiator as my right hand flight stick. For my left hand, I have the new Gladiator EVO which has the two attachments, the GNX SEM (Side Extension Module) on the right and the GNX THQ (Throttle Quadrant) attached on the left of the EVO. I had a helluva time getting these to work together, or even be recognized, by the software, several hours to get it right despite watching the official VKB vids. My config problems tended to be caused primarily by the wire connections between the three modules. It's very confusing which connects to which with what cable. (Note - the 3 pin cable connects to three of the four pins in the EVO base.) Notably, I also had an extension USB PCB board in the THQ which added to my difficulties until replaced with the original PCB. I never was able to get the short USB cable to work by connecting it as shown by VKB. I finally got the three working together by using only the internal 3 and 4 wire connecters. Also, there's no extended (longer) internal cable which can potentially limit some connectivity. With this configuation I lost the rightmost throttle due to the necessary EVO movements and not being able to separate it from the EVO (see USB cord issues). Not great. I also have VKB's GNX MFH (Multi Functional Holder) which is very nice and I'd planned to use it, but without the USB connection working, I'm not able to use it unfortunately. I removed a spring from the EVO to use it as an Omni Throttle without a centered location. It has a great and smooth feeling, however, there's NO detent! On the VKB forums, they simply suggest you set a larger deadzone and "learn" where the center is. With the exception of their customizable ball-and-spring "switches" (on the SEM ) which are great, there are no VKB products that have detents. If VKB were to find a way to add detents to their current and any upcoming products, the VKB products would possibly be the absolute BEST products available. VKB, please give me add-on detent options for my Gladiators! Thanks!
Afterthought - I wonder if I can 3d print ball-and-spring pieces similar to those used in the SEM and fit them into where the new dampening bars connect on the Omni base?
Thank you for your detailed report 🤩🚀🕹
I liked the side by side in the review! Was it difficult to get used to using dual stick?
Having been a mouse and keyboard pilot up to now, it was really a change, but it worked quite quickly and effectively.😇
Yes. It's pretty hard to get used to it, you need to practice daily and get those muscle memories going.
I have flown with a single stick and keyboard In a number of games. I was worried that my 42 year old mind would have a hard time with changing to dual sticks. I was very pleasantly surprised at how quickly I picked it up. After a few weeks the dual stick really started to feel natural and so much more immersive. I strongly recommend the setup.
What a video! Congratz!
thank you very much denis 🥳
Best details of the software I've seen anywhere. THANK YOU! I've owned a right handed Gladiator NXT Pro since it was first released and I absolutely love it. However, I find it very difficult to program and integrate. I've also discovered SC only lets me use a single button at a time too, so no combos. I've added their recent "throttle module" (~6mo ago? which I'm not a big fan of - no detents!). Despite that, I ordered another of their button boxes and a left handed Gladiator NXT Pro with an angle adapter for use as an angled throttle (they're cheap adapters! Get it! LOL) which is arriving in 3 days! I see you used two Gladiator NXT Pros in your vid. Any chance you'll be able to get more button boxes and review how the additional USB hub works with all their devices?
VKB downsides... Remember, I really love the Gladiator. However, support... One of the stick springs broke a couple months ago and, although under warranty, they ABSOLUTELY refused to replace it. Made me very unhappy, but I guess I still like it enough to buy more gear. Sure, they send 2 identical replacements, but if they only last a year and buying replacements from their store costs $7USD for the part then $18 for shipping... for 3 springs? what??? After 2 or 3 years I won't have a replacement. Give me a slow but cheap shipping option at least, especially for these little parts. How about an official maintenance kit? That would be great! They wouldn't even tell me what kind of spring so I could source one myself. Oh, and I find their desk mounts terrible and encourage anyone to get mounts from another, higher quality and more flexible,. supplier. BTW, get lube before you need it! After a bit over a year, I need to lubricate my first Gladiator and finding the right kind of lubricant is mind numbing and they have conflicting informatoin about what kind (viscosity) to get to retain the amazing feel of the flight stick. I'm also interested in trying to replace a couple of the original hats - they're very good and functional, but hurt my fingertips after long play sessions. Need options there!
Many Thanks 🤩 and also thanks for the tips on the sticks 👍
So, what lube did you end up getting and was it a good result?
@@Darkhorse77777 I can't see my reply to you. Can you see it? If not, I'll reword it and repost. If you can't see my reply, I suspect it was filtered due to certain key words I used.
@@mattb9876 haha nah I can't.
@@Darkhorse77777 I'll add a couple replies here (one with and one without the suspected keywords) and hope at least one isn't filtered.
I'd like to use KB+M when not piloting and HOSAS with your keybinds when flying - do I need to disable keyboard and mouse as your installation step 2 suggests, or is it simply highlighting the input for the hotas configuration that you're custom installing?
Thank you for the 3 part, can't wait to get into this :)
I also use a mouse and keyboard in addition to a dual stick setup. you don't limit yourself anywhere 🖖
Im gonna be using the premium right for DCS and MFS and Im super hyped. It's on its way now.
congratulations 🥳
Hello Karolinger, I thought the videos were excellent!!! Would you know how to indicate me an app or software to show the movements of the two joysticks during use? I would like to see them to notice centering failures. Tks!!!
Feel free to drop by our discord, we can give you some tips 🫡🤗
These sticks are killer, even the software.
Fortunately as a SC player you should have all the patience and will to learn to use this software, because you will need it IF you want to use it, which doesn't seem mandatory outside of calibration.
you really have to put in some work 🤞🤗
get it.
So I did this setup and used your template but my thrust won’t increase on left a1 stick and my guns are shooting with left trigger
Games and Windows like to swap sticks. you should be able to change that directly with the resortdevices command 🤞
@@MrKarolinger I just tweaked the template a lil and rebound some stuff works perfectly thanks for your series it’s the best setup for these out there I think
Please make a video like this about Elite Dangerous
totto did something on our German channel 😁
great videos and very comprehensive as i like to study up a bit before i make a large purchase. I do however have one question and it shows how little i know but, when you have two sticks and pedals how many usb connections do they take up? there was some instruction in video two on how to set up the analog stick as a mouse but is there no way to have a mouse attached as well?
each device requires a usb connection, but a usb hub also works without any problems 👍
You can still use the regular mouse as well
When using the sticks to walk/run my character doesn't like to come to a "dead stop" it will "drift" is there any way to control this?
it sounds like you might want to do a calibration. 🤞
is there a way to fire only the second weapon group? for example only charge emp of sentinal without shooting the main guns of the ship?
Yes, you can simply move the second weapon group to a different key 👍
Joysticks for sc are cool
I'm all in your opinion 😁
So how do I map all of these settings? I downloading the settings but it’s not showing up in the folder and I’m following all these steps properly
feel free to drop by our discord 🖖👍
Is there a part in between 2/3 and 3/3 that actually shows you how to set it up in game? part 3 here just seems to be a showcase and no tutorial what so ever
the assignment of the keys in the game itself is really not included in a dedicated manner. I'll submit that to the second part of the Gunfighter series after it works identically with every stick 👍
Great Video, thank you. When I go to try and find the keymap load on the discord site its tough to navigate around as German is not my primary language. Even still I cant find anything to download there, sorry if Im missing the obvious but could I get a little assistance in finding it? Thank you
once you have accepted the rules on the server with the green tick, you will also find the #downloads channel. By the way, all areas are bilingual 🖖👍
Great, thank you!
did you try using omni throttle for both instead
So far I've only used it on the left as a throttle 👍
How do the sensors compare to hal effect sensors?
they are more durable and more accurate or finer 🤞
Hey mate. Thanks for the vid. I’m trying to use the mini joystick as a free look joystick while I’m flying. How do you think I can do this (with the mini mouse function in combination with something else maybe?). Great vid!
this works if you use the mini stick directly in the game. By pressing the stick you can change the mode and use it twice 🤞
@@MrKarolinger but wont this move the ship as i try to free look? Maybe i can bind the "free look" control to the mini joystick press?
Soo how do you roll with only the left stick?
I like to roll with the stick rotation 🚀
