    Thank you for putting all these videos of my country Suriname on your channel.
    We indeed live in peace with one another. There are so many places in Suriname where you have a Christian church next to a Mosque. Or a Jewish synagoge next to a Mosque.
    In Suriname days like Christmas are enjoyed by everyone. Even non Christians.
    Holi (Hindu holiday) is also enjoyed by almost everyone.
    To make a long story short. Suriname is an example to the world that people CAN live in PEACE with each other.
    Fun fact: Suriname is the most rainforest covered country in the world with almost 98% procent of the land being covered.

    David, thank you for sharing your experience with us all. Watching all your videos eating all the popular foods and visiting places in Suriname really made me reminisce. I left Suriname when I was 11 years old and haven’t been back for 31 years. You have no idea how grateful I am giving the fact this is your first time there and you are very open minded to try all the foods. You deserve to have your own show like Zimmerman or Bourdain. I am now planning a trip to revisit thanks to you. David, you are amazing and I will support your channel from now on. You have a fan for life my friend. Keep up the good work and save travels my friend.

    I think it’s a little disrespectful to call it India again and again. It’s not fair to the people who have cultivated their own unique identity. It’s their culture now, it’s Surinamese. It may have its influences and inspirations but it’s distinct now. It has the culmination of different cultures in Surinam. Call it Surinamese or Hindu Surinamese cuisine. Give them their due

    • @fms2754
      @fms2754 5 лет назад +3

      I actually completely agree. I mean pom is a Jewish dish by origin but with the Surinamese nuances and unique additions to the dish over time, it would be an affront to refer to it as Jewish. Same goes for the Indian dishes. You made me really think!

      After Holland banned slavery in 1875, the Dutch went to India , China and Indonesia to get contractlabourers to man the plantations. The deal was , you get work and a piece of land, if you didn't like it after 5 years they would bring you back.

    • @BrazilResearcher
      @BrazilResearcher 5 лет назад +1

      @Kas that's almost correct, because only Suriname (ex Dutch Guyana) and Guyana (ex British Guyana) are not latin and culturally not linked either to Latin America and neither to majority of cultures in South America, but French Guiana where they speak French is part of the Roman Latin language and culture..but culturally of course still different..logic, like all nations in South America. and you also have a small but strong indian (people from India)and javanese communities in the state of Amapá, in Brazil, which is the Portuguese Guyana (The Portuguese crown took it away from the French when Portugal was invaded by Napoleon..revenge).

      The Dutch were the last of all superpowers to ban slavery, so finally they had to pay for work on the plantations.

    hi david.. here in Suriname we say bara not vada. And it's ParamaribO not paramaribU. You really also have to visit nickerie for a different surinamese experience. And for all the indians who are saying that bara (vada) isn"t supposed to be eaten with fish roe or meat or whatever, this is SURINAME and not india. The indians here are different. the indian food and the way it's eaten here is different so please don't compare us to India.

      @@sorayasing3717even in eastern part of india(west bengal), we call it bara.

      In Eastern and North East part of India the letter "V" is replaced by "B" when it comes to Pronounciation so naturally it becomes " Bara". Secondly, Indians in Caribbean, Mauritius, Suriname, Fiji etc are proud of their Bihari( Indian) ancestry and proud of it unless they try to hide or try to be wannabe Western. He's comparing it because he loves India and he has the right to do so.

      Jackie McCoy it looked more like what we call in Suriname Antroewa. You can compare their appearance to like Garden Eggs. Only Antroewa is very bitter .
