Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op 9 by Fernando Sor (1778-1839) | Matthew Sheppard Guitar Recital

Fernando Sor is perhaps the most well-known Classical-era guitarist and composer, and is responsible for a significant amount of the virtuosic repertoire of that era. His repertoire includes symphonies, ballets, chamber music, solo guitar and piano works, and at least one opera, though much of his music has been lost. The piece here is his variations on a theme by Mozart, which takes a theme from Mozart's Magic Flute. It is a technically demanding piece that is very often performed, but upon listening it is no wonder why so many are drawn to it.
