In the SheRa cartoon whenever SheRa tricked or slightly injured one of the soldiers in armour it was a man. Whenever she violently murdered them they were robots inside.
Look out for pig boy. During Skeletors entrance, he hands Skeletor his Havoc staff. Pig boy was played by a kid who won a competition placed by Mattel. Unfortunately, the production was running behind, so the part was a blink and miss it cameo.
I LOVE this movie. While not perfect, it’s the only one we’ve got. Dolph was PERFECT and Skeletor OWNED!!! A worthy film for my all time fav superhero.
Frank Langella as Skeletor just steal the show along with Meg Foster’s Evil-lyn as his evil second in command 😆. He joins the excellent ranks of Raul Julia as M Bison and Max von Sydow as Ming the Merciless; some of these great career actors have a ball playing these over the top villains!
Really with this film they waited too long, He-Man as a toy franchise was in decline at this point, the cartoon series had already ended, if they'd made this in 1985 it would have been a great hit. You should definitely do 'The Last Boy Scout' sometimes, a film full of epic lines. Masters of the Universe is an enjoyable film but you can see its' cheapness, Meg Foster always jokes she appeals to casting directors as she brings her own special effect with her for free (her eyes) and with Cannon she's probably right. Frank Langella steals the show, reputedly writing some of his own dialogue and paraphrasing Shakespeare "How is the loneliness of good sorceress? Does it compare to the loneliness of evil?'. Dolph certainly looks perfect for the role, I think his best film however is still Silent Trigger where he actually shows some real acting chops.
I saw this film as a kid i the cinema. Even back then, us He-Man fans were utterly disappointed with it. It was nothing like the cartoon series and the biggest letdown was when they came to earth... I was so enraged and almost left the theater.
Flash. Gorden. Do it guys!!!!! Love y'all, you guys kick ass, best reviews on RUclips by far. Been watching for about 2 years now, keep up the amazing work!!
Before Captain Phasma, there was Evil-lyn. Also wasn't she from earth as Queen Marlena was? I think her name was Evelyn Morgan Powers. But in the original filmation series her history as an earthling was never discussed in debt.
I regard this as a guilty pleasure. I was a fan of the cartoon (and still am) and I had the toys, at first I was mortified that there wasn't really many characters from the cartoon, but as you get older you appreciate it for what it is. As a 7 year old watching this, Skeletor was scary, and pulled it off really well.
Can we all appreciate that drum kit with the evh frankenstrat design for a moment? And only to have a bunch of henchmen jump through it made this little drummer boy cry hahaha
Watching Chelsea Field gave me an idea: you should review "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man" with Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson. I think you will have a blast talking about that movie.
...also, I love movies from the 80s generally - they knew what they were doing - they made movies for kids with adult themes (which was awesome); whereas today they make movies for adults with children's themes...what on earth happened!?!
It's kinda funny that Frank Langella plays Skeletor here, and years later, he'd play another toy in Joe Dante's "Small Soldiers" but a heroic one instead.
As movies made to promote a line of toys go, this is one of the more entertaining ones, even if it is of the so-bad-it's-good variety. And yes, Meg Foster was literally THE perfect actress to play Evil-Lyn.
another great review from you two, making my day much better, thanks for it and all other ones you´ve done so far! :) Now to something different: Where can one find a Alien queen T-shirt like that?! O_O
Maybe besides Evil Lyn nothing in this movie reminded my of the He-Man toys :-7 Where were Tri-Klops, Trap-Jaw, Mer-Man? They didn't even try to get He-Mans sword somehow like the one from the animated series. And no Battle Cat!
I got the HeMan action figures complete with Castle GrayStone from as a hand me down from my uncle. I remember the castle had a microphone that would autotune your voice with a Skeletore filter.
The whole thing was a disaster. Let's all just remember we born back then. We got the toys at Christmas, we watched the cartoons, we read the comics we got on the back of every toy we got given(English one way Spanish from the back). But let's not talk about the film. Those were the good old days. When you could leave your front door unlocked.
Now that I finally got enough time to watch the entire review, I'm kind of shocked that amongst all the admiration for Langella's performance, there's no mention of Skeletor's reaction to He-Man's whipping. He CRINGES on his throne, clutching at his staff, unable to watch but unable to turn away, and you just KNOW he's secretly relishing his shame over the turgid boner he's hiding in his robes. It's a slashfic moment that puts Batman/Joker and Thor/Loki to shame.
This film could've been a winner if they made it a shared universe with Back to the Future. So many possibilities. Strickland, marty, guildor & doc. Delorian vs hoverboard troops. Man at arms teaching self-defense classes at high school. It would make the time travel scene at the end make sense too.
Was Kenneth Williams still alive when this film was made? Skeletor from the TV series did sound just like Kenneth Williams, even though I knew it wasn't him. He-Man: Skeletor! This is INFAMY!! Skeltor: Oh, trust me... we've all got it in for YOU, He-Man! And as for phwoaarrh Meg Foster... Phwoooaaarrh Evillyn! Who would you cast as He-Man and Skeletor today? Charles Hemsorth is already playing Thor (as Dolph Lungdren) and Kenneth Williams died years ago. I think Skeletor would be played by either Bill Nighy, Malcolm MacDowell, some other Evil Brit or maybe Michael Ironside. Perhaps WWE Films could take on the franchise, though that could mean Stephanis McMahon playing Evillyn. Or they could just make a She-Ra film instead have all the neckbeards rage about feminism again, completely ignoring Moneysupermarket killing He-Man and Skeletor as credible characters.
Hi guys this movie believe it or not is not courteney cox's first thing she did, she was in the dancing in the dark music video by bruce springsteen which i think that album was what 84 or 85 yes im also an 80's nut lol
If this was based on Eternia it might have been a guilty pleasure of mine as a MOTU fan but... Yeah this is not the case. That said, "Karg" looks like a really evil Who from DR. SEUSS 🤣
They should have made Skeletors neck better, seems like they gave up on the make up front once they finished his face...my most memorable things about this film is that annoying jingle (which I'm sure they nicked from the opening of the intro of a move studio) oh, and Courtney Cox was well fit in this.
David Odell, writer for "The Muppet Show," scripted three movies through the mid-'80s (this, "Supergirl" and "The Dark Crystal") that, regardless of quality, all had one thing in common; about twenty-two minutes of plot watered out to ninety-plus minutes of runtime. A cast like this (Langella is so perfect) deserved better. 13:42 Aw, come on, dude...you can't complain about Gwildor being annoying after wondering where Orko went. (I'm not surprised Orko didn't appear. He is, after all, a shadow with ears and eyes in a hat and robe. Go ahead, just try to imagine a late-'80s live-action version of that, even with a decent budget.)
No, I really don't. It's an episode of "Jim Henson's The Storyteller" with enough padding to stuff 5,000 Big Birds. And given that it's also basically "The Muppet Lord of the Rings," maybe they could have swiped some *good* padding.
we are getting closer to a new He Man (2019 now^^) it seems. But I hope they really, really don't get even close to Earth. It needs to be on Eternia. All the time. They need it to be fun, but not too campy. Take itself seriously, but not too seriously ^^ They need to create a single movie that wraps itself up, but can be followed up by sequels. Not a sequel-baiting starter (like Warcraft). No lame origin-stories. THrow us into the action. Not like Adam only at the very end discovers he can become He-Man or whatever... Anyway ...robots? Really? Yeah...sure. Just like the white robots in Star Wars^^ At least they have the same aim as Stormtroopers. And yeah, robots...and Outriders go straight back to the Phantom Zone when shot ...
@Lebo leigh Leigh idk , it's like seeing Michael Keatons non makeuped eyes before he rips his mask off in Batman Returns.. It just always bothered me as a kid , and the fact Skeletor has no eyes in the cartoon , it seemed extremely stupid to me ( even as a 4-5 year old kid) that they'd give him eyeballs when ... HES SUPPOSED TO BE A FN SKELETON!!!!!
Hey lads great Chanel , Iv seen that you’ve done few Texas chainsaw massacre reviews… Will you guys do a review for Texas chainsaw massacre part 2 ( 1986 ) Thanks enjoy the summer guys
@@OffTheShelfReviews thanks Gary , I’m dying to hear Ians opinion and yourself Gary’s opinion Texas Chainsaw massacre part 2 ( 1986 ) Especially the characters - stretch and Denis hopper’s character and the rest of the cast and how the movie played out 🙌🏻 keep up the good work 👍
He Man the cartoon actually had a lot of homoerotic overtones and jokes because sunbow employed openly gay actors and writers and therefor that's the kind of material that a lent itself to the material given the character designs, like wrestling, but also the voice actors sense of humours.
And the memories come flooding back! Yeah this is nostalgia for me too! Langella is the highlight by far, the rest of the film pretty awful. But you need to stop shitting on Scream and Courtney Cox Iain! Scream is a great film and she's great in it! Really enjoyable review anyway.
In the SheRa cartoon whenever SheRa tricked or slightly injured one of the soldiers in armour it was a man. Whenever she violently murdered them they were robots inside.

Fuck yes boys! Another Direct Hit for childhood nostalgia! Fucking Dolph Lundgren bro! Epic!
#ShelferForLife
The score that plays behind Skeletor's introduction still sends chills up my spine.
This is probably one of the first movies I remember watching when I was a kid
Loved this movie as a kid and after rewatching recently, I still enjoyed it.
I LOVE this movie. While not perfect, it’s the only one we’ve got. Dolph was PERFECT and Skeletor OWNED!!!
A worthy film for my all time fav superhero.
not just him, but Frank too did a good job as Skeletor too.
@16JAM77 LOL. Looks like Frank is Dolph's huckleberry.
I just can't help but love everything about this movie, it has been etched into my mind being as I watched it as a kid! Great memories!!! :)
This production company made the awesome Lifeforce. As a He-man fan, I loved this as a kid.
Lifeforce was awesome.
Seconded, this film would have benefitted from having Mathilda May in it. As would all films really.
MrLorenzovanmatterho Mathilda May was inordinately gorgeous, she still is tbh.
I clearly have lower standards - I can't afford to be picky :):):)
I recognize Meg Foster as Hera from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
Really with this film they waited too long, He-Man as a toy franchise was in decline at this point, the cartoon series had already ended, if they'd made this in 1985 it would have been a great hit. Can you guys plz review “Team America: World Police”?!?
+Off The Shelf Reviews Woke up to this!! Thumbs up 👍🏽
I loved this film as kid and I love it even more now, such a fun movie with a perfect cast.
Good memories, I remember seeing this in the theater in 1987 when I was five. Haven't watched the review yet, can't wait!!!
Awesome as always guys, keep it up!
Thundercats live action if done right would be good. No snarf tho

Man at Arms was actually played by Ron Burgundy in this movie.;-)

In case someone doesn't know, all the original HE-MAN action figures have been remade in their original packaging. Even Buzz-Off and Jitsu.
Masters of the Universe is a great movie. Frank Langella gave a brilliant performance as Skeletor. He made Masters of the Universe.
Can we all appreciate that drum kit with the evh frankenstrat design for a moment? And only to have a bunch of henchmen jump through it made this little drummer boy cry hahaha

I saw this movie before any of the star wars movies. Skeletor, from this movie, was my early childhood's Vader.
It's kinda funny that Frank Langella plays Skeletor here, and years later, he'd play another toy in Joe Dante's "Small Soldiers" but a heroic one instead.

My God I fancied Evil Lynn in this movie! I watched this a lot on my own in my bedroom as a kid... 😂
I got the HeMan action figures complete with Castle GrayStone from as a hand me down from my uncle. I remember the castle had a microphone that would autotune your voice with a Skeletore filter.
"Castle Graystone", sure...
Skeletor was actually pretty good.
last time i was this early dinosaurs ruled the earth
Evilyn put the collar on Kevin as she wanted him intact to be her pet when Skeletor eventually took over earth as well hahha
Saw this in the theater and loved it........but hey I was 10.I'll still watch a few minutes if its on.
Sean Cocksmith Who watches movies on television anymore? Apparently, you do.

Damn dood you really give a fuck about my tv watching habits. How about you worry about yourself and stfu.

Yeah there was that whole S&M quality to it, surprised no ones commented on the bit where Evilynn is kneeling before Skeletor.
This film could've been a winner if they made it a shared universe with Back to the Future.

The music sounds like Spaceballs to me!🤣
Any movie with music composed by Bill Conti has something going for it.
Haha but Skeletor WAS a hilarious 80's villain! I liked the movie too despite all its issues
Also loved the Star Wars esque music too
And the proposed sequel became the Jean Claude Van Damme film Cyborg
My former supervisor had pale blue eyes like Meg has & I found it hard to look her in the eyes sometimes.
How dare you sir Dolph is an Oscar worthy actor. He was born to be He-Man.
If this was based on Eternia it might have been a guilty pleasure of mine as a MOTU fan but... Yeah this is not the case. That said, "Karg" looks like a really evil Who from DR. SEUSS 🤣
Dolph is so freaking hot! But the costumes are beyond funny ahahaha!
Still upset the 200X show was left unfinished.
I love this classic film! I hope the reboot happens one day! Great review you guys!
Loved it when I was a kid; still love it today! 😎
i love the way their tattoos touch xx love these guys !
Jay Mac I was thinking the same thing, just before they started in about the homo erotic overtones of the cartoon.
When did WWE's Sheamus start doing reviews?
If WWE got the rights to a movie remake, would Sheamus get the part of He-Man?
Oh that had me laughing so hard! I was trying to picture who Iain looked like with that dodgy beard!

Frank Langella was a beast as skeletor
Another awesome review guys shame we never got the sequel 👊
We kinda did. Cannon changed the name, stuck Van Dam in it, and renamed it Cyborg.
If you want to see Billy Barty at at its finest look at the Paul Lynde Halloween special and he man will look like Casablanca

Yeeeeees! As a kid I saw this before I saw Star Wars haha.
This was my Star Wars!
(Until I saw Star Wars ;p)
Great review
Masters of the Universe is not a guilty pleasure, I love this film
Could you guys review flash gordon I think it's right up your guys street

The only things that were good about this film we're Frank lengellas skeletor meg fosters evil Lyn and the theme tune

Never clicked on a video so fast! Cheers gents
Funniest part of the movie, do ya think they don't like us. Man at arms there just lonely they miss us then throws a genarade
No matter how bad, it'll always be a childhood treasure, long live he-man and his gays overtones! Haha

Teela is far, far hotter than Evil-Lyn.
Dolph LundGren and Billy BartY rather....
She was dancing in the dark
The Hitcher is a great movie. I'll bite your ears off if you say otherwise.
The hitcher sucks
Come at me bro :)
Yes, the Sean Bean remake sucks. But the original '80s one with Rutger Hauer is incredible.
I love this movie just switch your brain off grab some popcorn and enjoy 👍
This movie was the biggest let down of my childhood, great review though.
I'm sure it's a pg movie
