He's underrated now but back in the day my generation appreciated him, your right Walsh is amazing not just the musicianship but the lyrics back then were way better!!! Peace,
They played Tampa on 1/29/2002, my 40th birthday. My 14 year old son went with me to the show. We got backstage passes & got to meet the band, classy guys. Great song by a great musical group!!!
+findusuli Kansas was right up there with the progressive rock gods ELP and Yes. Unfortunately, the 70's were also full corporate rock sell outs like Heart, Journey, the Eagles, and Frampton.
This is from Device Voice Drum. I think Steve sounds the best here in a long time. He sticks to the original melody and is right on. Billy Greer also seamlessly sings the high part in the chorus and pre-chorus.
Saw them 5 times in one year - America's one contribution to prog rock. Walsh and Ehart did some great stuff on one of Steve Hackett's (Genesis) solo albums.
Was so happy when i heard this on the state farm commercial. "Yes!! Fucking Kansas!!" I just hope folks that have never heard of em get out and grab some of their tunes
PHIL EHARDT HAS THE BEST SNARE SOUND LIVE. IT HAS A NICE POP SOUND TO IT. SOUNDXS LIKE A SNARE SHOULD. NOT LIKE A TRASH CAN LID WITH A TON OF GATED REVEB LIKE 80s HAIR BANDS OR LIKE PAPER.
Time waits for no one! All I have to do is look in the mirror to be reminded that I'm getting old. It used to bother me but even though I hate this phrase "it is what it is"! Who cares if the guys are wrinkled or overweight! If they still kick ass then as I said before, it doesn't matter at all!
Anyone who does'nt like this has his/her head stuck up thier ass! Unlike RapCrap, these are REAL musicians! They sing on key, they have incredible arraingements, and Great harmonies! Wonder if Justin beiber was handed an instrument to actually PLAY!, how well he'd do!!??
Kansas (or should I say Kerry) is great at writing songs with shifting time signatures that don't even seem awkward.. the 4/4 and 3/4 altering in the verses reminds me of Rush's "Limelight"
It's kind of true, they are a guilty pleasure, in a way...you have to give up something to listento them, because the songs are so sincere and un-ironic, but it's worth ti to do so, and really beats anything too hip or cynical. In the end, I would choose this over Nirvana, for instance, it feeds the soul, and raises the spirits, and they can really rock, And I like Nirvana, too...
@rebelmunro the funny thing is, justin bieber is a really good drummer and an alright piano player for his age. but his songs are to commercial and to into whats popular now. i dont know if its because of his label, or his lack of taste that drives his music to suck as much as it does.
I think the knock on Kansas is that the majority of their music is pure prog-rock schmaltz. This song and What's On My Mind from Leftoverture are the exceptions.
Real musicians playing real music, really well. Sadly, this is becoming more rare.
This is flat out good ol rock with excellent and precise sound and vocals!
Seen Kansas four times in my life, first time was 1979 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. They are amazing and I think the best band ever!
He's underrated now but back in the day my generation appreciated him, your right Walsh is amazing not just the musicianship but the lyrics back then were way better!!!
Peace,
Progressive Rock. I love Kansas, one of the rock legends.
what a voice!

Jesus Christ! This dude still has a set of pipes on him despite his age! It almost sounds like the studio version itself.
Best concert I have ever seen!
Sweet! And many don't understand...sadly.. Kansas.. Well done! :)
my God, what crazy excellent live music.... so great it defies logic. Kansas.........forever
A powerhouse of talent and material.
Top 20 bands of all time....personally....top 3. Talent.
saw them n hawaii. they did carry on very last. started it out with acoustics then rocked the house. i went berzerk!!!
excellent version! wish there was still real music around...
I miss Robby. Rest in peace brother
I love this great band!
Ric.
saw these guys twice. Amazing voice on Walsh.
It's GREAT to see a rock star play a violin
I looked for this song forever, my boss told me this was ELO when it was on the radio.
It's been 6 years and I'll bet you're still shaking your head in shame..
... I would be.....
A very underrated band. So musically sound.
+motorcityquig Underrated? I thought they are damn popular. :)
+findusuli Kansas was right up there with the progressive rock gods ELP and Yes. Unfortunately, the 70's were also full corporate rock sell outs like Heart, Journey, the Eagles, and Frampton.
motorcityquig they still sound great as older men
I'VE SEEN STYX AND JOURNEY IN CONCERT, both good 70's bands, i still have yet to see Kansas in concert amd probably never will
Steve Walsh.Great American singer
one of the best bands ever!!!!
1st Concert in 1978 and Heart opened for them...That wouldn't ever happen again.
Man they sound good.
You Brother said he needs you, your Mother said she Loves you... MY Favorite Band, been to Many shows. Why they aren't in the Hall is bs.
Agreed, but it's "Your Father, he says he needs you, your Mother she says she loves you. Your brothers, they echo your words...how far..."
Wow, can you believe Mr Walsh on vocals
This is from Device Voice Drum. I think Steve sounds the best here in a long time. He sticks to the original melody and is right on. Billy Greer also seamlessly sings the high part in the chorus and pre-chorus.

Although Steve's voice has changed I find myself prefering this version over the original.
I don't see Kerry Livgren either on guitar. Maybe he's back in the shadows somewhere? That Walsh still has some pipes don't he. Man, I love that band.
tolle band!!!
That's tight band right there..
"Know" return.

It’d be nice if whoever posts these videos would include the date and the place.
Wow...Walsh is singing his ass off. Cool.
lol i saw these guys for free.

@Reierdacool Thanks
no kerry here...but still in the window before robbie left. steve still sounds good here.
Which DVD is this from? Does anyone know?
When and where was this concert?
2002 Atlanta
I passed the point of know return.
Sent you a message
btw the song is called "Point of know return"
how long? to the point of know return
2 people turned back
2 man are BonnyM fan.

Which year is this from ?
The original song is from 1977. This performance is from the DVD "Device Voice Drum," released in 2002.
Uh...it's point of KNOW return.
I'm pretty sure 2002 is accurate. Robby came back in 1998 and both he and Steve look much older than they would have in the late 80s.
Beautiful tune. It's a shame alcoholism nailed Robbie; he was a key element of Kansan success.
@mrhatalex 2002

Gotta admit, that fiddle part makes me wanna spaz out like a chubby asian guy too. :)
Is that Steve Walsh singing this one? I know Kerry Livgren isn't there, so I'm not sure what incantation of the band this is.
Technically it's spelled 'Point of KNOW return'. :]
2003
ya dude i love that asian guy!
Everyone know thew asian guy in that state farm commercial, he died shortly after
the only reason i know this song is because of the state farm commercial with the asian dude
