I had the Vinyl Confessions on tape at one time. I loved all the songs on this tape. I used to listen to it quite a lot. Now I am in my 50s reminiscing the songs of Kansas.
I love the opening lines of this song! So perfectly expresses the dilemma of the new guy filling in someone else's shoes. John looks and sounds so lonely telling his story and then the song widens to include all of us-brilliant!
Picturesque story-telling to a beautiful tune, sung by one of the greatest voices ever. There is depth to this which few rock bands ever even came close to.
Have to say this is one of my favorite songs from Vinyl Confessions. Was fortunate enough to see Kansas in concert the very same year of this clip. They sounded every bit as good in person, as on the album- a rare feat. John had/has such a phenomenal voice....and came to Chrisitan faith right about the same time I did.
Although I was sad that Steve Walsh had left KANSAS, the first Concert tour with John Elafante in 1982 was very powerful and enjoyable..... It was a great recovery for the band........... John was very well received in Pittsburgh, Pa for the Vinyl Confessions Tour......
I think John did more than an excellent job. He was a fantastic singer, keyboardist and writer. Yes, his brother Dino helped him, but Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures were good albums.
TOTALLY one of my favorite songs from the Elefante era! This concert was once on late-night television.. I taped it, and it was my first ever glimpse of Kansas in concert! I've been a major fan of theirs since childhood! And I'm SO thankful that this band is still around! Thanks guys! And thanks for uploading! RAWK ON!! (And carry on!) ♫ ToMMyY!! ♫
No way I was there also in 1983 Concert under the stars. I still have my T-Shirt from the concert and I never wore it. Its still brand new LOL. Right where Universal Studios is. Damn What a small world and if it was steve or elefante they ROCKED both ways. I'm so glad I grew up when CONCERT'S were CONCERT'S.
Much like when Steve Howe left Yes I figured the band had run it's course but as with Trevor Rabin I was wrong. If you can get by the Air Supply ensemble worn here, John Elefante is a force of nature. He filled the spot of the best singer I had ever seen live on the Audio Visions tour and did so with authority. And like Yes it was a different Kansas but still a very good one. I also love Stuart Ham's haunting refrain in the chorus. He was a great addition as well.
Yeah this is great, john had taken voice for awhile from the same coach as me in the mid 80's the late howard hayes in long beach ca. John went to lakewood high school and had a band with his brother dino called Elefante last time i ran into john was at the old maycompany shopping at christmas, this was just after he joined kansas and had play the game tonight out as a single. wow the good old days when i was younger. haha
+1 for making mention of this, never heard of them before, really nice song - seems they were a New Jersey Cover Band originally, performing Kansas / Styx / Queen / Boston / covers ... etc ... so the Kansas influence makes sense
Let's just say he was Kansas' best singer vocally. He should have replaced Steve when he retired. They would be so much more relevant. One of my favorite Kansas songs.
Elefante had great vocals but I hated looking at that goofy Afro and the goofy outfits that he wore! although he was a terrific replacement when Walsh left.
This is a really great song. A shame very few people know it --- definitely part of the Kansas legacy.
So what you are saying is, some of them will know it, but many of them won't.
Vinyl Confessions is the ultimate go to album for me throughout the years. John Elefante has an amazing voice!
I used to sing this song with my band back in the early 90's. It's such a beautiful song and let me tell you, the ladies loved it.
The song, the singer, the album... Underrated!!!
A VERY VERY GOOD LP❤❤
This song NEVER got any notice & i think it was just as beautiful as Dust in the wind.
weird they did not release it as the second hit after play the game tonight
it was always one of my favourites.
❤❤OF HER LP VINIL CONFESSION❤❤

❤❤MY CULT BAND KANSA ALWAYS PROGRESIVES SINCE BOY THE LISTEN ❤❤

Such a Beautiful Song 🎵😍❤!!!!!
Whole CD was great..Never have to skip songs on it.
Beautiful.. Just beautiful... Never gets old and you can never have enough of this song, this band, this time...
Love this song as much as dust in the wind!

I was at that show. Cheap Trick opened. Kansas was tremendous.
RIP Robby. You were the best.
Got to admit, John Elephant did an excellent job on this song and alsotaking over Steve temporary. Love the tune.

I believe in eternal life, but this really could be my funeral song. Makes me cry (and I'm not the only one...).

GOT TO SEE John in the band on stage during his reign at the mic,he was magnificent,John is you read these, you are exceptional vocalist, ask steve
Keith turned me on to this, teenage years. Great stuff.
A classic!
The live version is even better than the studio
Awesome song! Elefante can really sing.
No, it's not the Steve Walsh Kansas, but Vinyl Confessions was really a decent album. This is my Fave on VC.
Großartiger Song, einfach bezaubernd.
I was at the Loyd Noble Center in Norman, OK, on this same tour. I heard this and saw it live. It was just as good as the recording, if not better.
Uma pena que as bandas atuais não se espelham em bandas como o Kansas que faziam músicas de qualidade e por isso eles nunca serão esquecidos.

Warren Ham and Robby, in a special moment.

I thought it was Warren Ham?
The great song !
A masterpiece..
RUNFROMTHELIGHT.....💥...
I'm a Walsh fan, but Elefante nails it!

Maravilhoso . Perfect !!!
Mi banda favorita
RIP Robbie :(
very powerful Kansas. John Elefante was the perfect replacement for Steve Walsh
JE is still today (2017) the strongest/best singer in rock music.
blueraybird I almost totally agree, it is a close 1st and 2nd with Michael Sweet!
Good Voice from John Elephant.
Hey, George! Hit me up! Thanks for taking me out the stagecoach!
When it takes 2 or 3 people to replace a beast like Steve Walsh, you know there was greatness there
theres a band called prophet that does a song 1988 called tomorrow never comes almost exact
+1 for making mention of this, never heard of them before, really nice song - seems they were a New Jersey Cover Band originally, performing Kansas / Styx / Queen / Boston / covers ... etc ... so the Kansas influence makes sense

❤❤JOHN ELEFANT SECOND SINGER OF THE BAND KANSAS❤❤

KANSAS......
The violin part is poignant. Great song.
Elefante had great vocals but I hated looking at that goofy Afro and the goofy outfits that he wore! although he was a terrific replacement when Walsh left.
Voice is all that counts.. JE's recent work (with Jay Sekulow Band etc.) shows his voice is still the best in rock music (and we live in 2017 now).
@@blueraybird
You are fucking delusional. He is not only NOT the best, he isn't top 50!
@@jamesrudd8705
Please name the 50 better vocalists you are claiming are better.
very powerful Kansas. John Elefante was the perfect replacement for Steve Walsh
Watch Stevies performance at Canada Jam and you will appreciate him
A classic!!!
