  • “Olga's Odyssey” is the story of my mother Olga Leskiw, who was born in western Ukraine in 1931, survived Stalin's Holodomor famine-genocide of 1932, escaped the Russians in 1944, lived in a German DP camp for 5 years, and came to America in 1949 to live her life.

Thank you for making this film! So many of us want to do this but do not know how. You have left a memoir that many will learn from for many years. I hope that in America the people will remember what the families and ancestors went through and fought for . I beg do not aid in giving Ukraine to Putin in America elections.

Wow incredible stories of human survival and catastrophes … so similar to what my family experienced in The revolution in Hungary in 1956 when the Russians invaded… so many parallels and similarities … amazing so wonderful that had the photos And videos to pull this together … I have many family pictures in boxes from Romania and Hungary you inspired me to start thinking of doing something similar ! 🤓

My parents as well. Father left Kolomiya, Buchach and mama left Berezhany, Raj…and went west to DP camps through Austria and Germany. They arrived in the US separately, he to Albany area, Mom to Newark, NJ. They met at Soyuzivka years later but both were heavily involved in the Ukrainian community. So was I, used to teach at St John’s School in Newark and belonged to Plast and went to Rodman Shkola on Saturdays. So many of our people came this way as the WW2 diaspora! 🇺🇦🙏🏻
