Persona 5 is an incredible game. I'm so jealous of anyone who gets to play it on switch for the first time. It's my favourite console and would have loved to play it on switch instead of the PS3.
I have other stronger means to play it on, but I think the portability of the switch and how this port is still so good is definitely motivating me to go for the switch version. Being able to take the switch with me will make getting through it far better in my opinion
I pre-ordered the physical edition on switch after seeing this overview! I have gamepass, but long JRPGs are a bit harder to tackle for me due to length and the Switch let’s me pick away at them easier. Glad the performance is good on Switch! Appreciate the video!
Same. First I decided to play it on XGP. After approximately 20 hours decided to order Switch version, as I wanted to have it physical and prefer Switch for that. Plus it will be easier for me to play here and there in handheld with docked being used when at home late then to play it on TV only.
Now this is what I like to hear, can't wait to pick up my copy this week! Also worth noting, this new port version includes most if not all of the DLC from the original release of Royal included for free

@@SwitchCorner Yeah, if possible I'll push everything as far as it can go, I think the FPS limit is 120 and resolution scaling can go as high as 200%. Not sure if my system can handle it but we shall see!

Never played a persona game but bought the royal edition on PS4 and... Never played it...Yet!! Anyway, I was wondering of swapping the game for the Switch version hoping it will help deciding publishers that they can publish AAA games on the Nintendo handheld console without a doubt!
The problem triple A has with the switch is the consoles bad internet makes skinner boxes untenable I want that to continue let the indies and offline games have their platform

Was a little torn on getting this again for ps5, but decided to get it for the switch instead. Really like the idea of having this game on the go. Been really loving Nier: Automata, on the switch & I think this will be just as good a port.
I will buy P5R the digital version when it goes on sale on the eShop and the physical version as well when it’s on sale. Even if it’s one year from now I’m a patient guy so I’ll be waiting until that day. 😅

I put about 30 hours into the first version of the game on ps4. If Neir coming out on switch has proved anything to me I will finish it slowly playing it every night in bed

After having played this on both PS4 and Xbox S, I was a little skeptical about how it would stand up, but honestly the only time I noticed a drop in quality was the doors of the saferooms. Pretty remarkable considering how much of a flop P3 was on this console.
It will be a downgrade in a sense of visuals and gameplay a little bit. P5 is newer so graphics are of course better. The P3 theyre releasing next year is the portable version on psp so your character doesnt run around on screen unless in the dungeon. But all the cutscenes and music and story is still great and the social links and characters are all wonderful. Id give them a try if youre interested after playing P5. The stories are contained so theyre not connected.
Maybe from a graphical perspective but if you love the gameplay they're more of the good stuff on offer from 5. I've replayed 4 since 5 first came out and I enjoy it for its smaller scale and charm.

After my first hour of persona on ps4 in 2016, I knew I would rather play this on switch and put the game down. After 6 years of patience, it’s finally here and I can’t wait to lose myself!!

I’m not sure how this can be considered a masterpiece of a port. - The game clearly tops out at 720p resolution while docked, which is the same as what PS3 was doing on much weaker hardware. - Distortion effects and some shader effects update at a much lower frame rate than PS3 - PS3 used MLAA antialiasing, there isn’t any antialiasing on Switch The PS4 version of P5, and Royal, had near identical graphics to PS3 but at a higher rendering resolution. Switch, by comparison, can’t even match PS3 despite being more powerful on paper.
It is terrible handheld, which is the whole point of this version. No one should buy this game on Switch unless it's their only console and they'll play docked. It doesn't work as a handheld game with this port.
I really want to play this one... But I have a whole line up of games I really want to play, keep adding games on ridiculous sales, and well, the more expensive ones definitely have to wait for me, and most of the time have gotten some important patches and decent sales by the time I would have played them. Some games would cut the line, and this might be one of them, but currently I already have Nier AND Bravely Default 2, the latter for 20€ physical, to cut the line, in which Triangle Strategy and Fire Emblem and many more are still queing. For when I'm done with Dicey Dungeon, as palate cleanser for Stella Glow on 3ds that I got for under 5€ and put over a hundred hours in. So, wishlist it is. I started P5 on PS4 back in the day, but I could no longer just sit in front of a tv for hours. I have my Switch, my laptop, and my nature home with more outside than inside, so portability is a very welcome feature. Played P4 on the Vita (which I sold in the meantime), PQ and PQ2 on the 3DS that I still have. I suppose there's still a working PS4 and TV in that closet in the corner of my cabin, but if someone stole it 3 years ago, I almost litterally wouldn't know (almost, as some of my Switch games are stored in the same closet). Thanks for the review, it does confirm what I was hoping for to be true.
@@phillemon7664 Not my thing, I like many aspects about both games. However the anime style falls short to me anyway. I'm a big Castlevania, Akira and Berserker fan and many Hayao Miyazaki films. The seriousness of these anime titles hits more home for me. The goofy characters of some animes really takes me out of many shows, games and movies. Along with fan service being the biggest one that bothers me. Maybe someday a JRPG will come along that suits me. A Castlevania game with the TV series art style would be great honestly.
@@phillemon7664 it actually think that game on switch looks worse artistically. But I had a feeling the same people may have made both games. I just don't like how much time it seems you spend in the life management portion of the game and then to hear your activities are timed and on a deadline and so varied as to be overwhelming........ that turned me away.
gotta say from what i have seen it looks like it has stayed uncensored or is the japanese version character designs and over all story so good to know i am not going to miss out on anything and there is not going to be the playstation 5 weird censoring stuff that has killed games like devil may cry and any port of indie games like Doki doki Lit Club or very heavy topic games like this one

Just going to play it on PC/game pass. I bought a ton of games for my switch collection, then realized all they do is sit on a shelf collecting dust. Digital is the way to go nowadays.
They should of let us be able to wear dlc clothing (or heck, anything else) for the daily life sections, I feel like the added customization would of been appreciated here

Just a disclaimer for people considering this, it is NOT a good port. The only reason to choose Switch is portability. It's unplayable handheld. It looks like the screen is smeared with Vaseline and the absence of anti aliasing means every texture shimmers at the edges -- this in an anime style game that relies on sharp outlines. The Switch can run games like Borderlands 2 at native resolution handheld, so this port shouldn't be praised. It seems like a lazy, farmed out conversion with no input by Atlus themselves and very little care taken.
good to read this ! this is clearly not a good port. Resolution is below 500p handheld which makes the game look ugly and muddy and ruins a good part of the atmosphere. Though most people lie and say its great. Its one of the laziest and most disappointing port Ive seen on switch.
Honestly I wasn't impressed with base p5 but I've never had a chance to play royal version. So I'll probably pick up switch version at some point when the release schedule isn't so packed.
Its super cool! Adds enough new stuff in royal to make it more interesting :) make sure to equip the free dlc sometimes, whenever i want a change of pace I change their clothes to be the P3 or P4 versions and it changes the music during times in the dungeon. Super nostalgic especially if you played any of the old persona games
@@kraenk12 or the writing just isn't good. Besides the teacher the rest of the villains are all over the top and cartoonish. The social links are all poor and end in the same way" person a is being bullied by person b you then go into Momentos change person's b heart and person a is indebted you for life" besides the rare ones of " person a is worried that person b is being bullied by person C do change person C heart and a is indebted you for life". Honestly it's the worst written persona game made.
I suppose I am the only one who has zero interest in this port. The art style with the comic book flair doesn't do it for me and the story falls flat for what I particularly look for in an RPG. Very glad to see the performance is where it needs to be so all the fans can enjoy it on the Switch.
Masterpiece? They couldn’t even hit native resolution in handheld. If vanilla P5 could run at 720p on the PS3 I don’t get why we should expect anything less from a Royal Switch port. I’m disappointed.

This game isn’t graphically demanding and the original vanilla version appeared on ps3 so not surprised that it runs well on switch.
Playing this one on PC but I am so glad the Switch port is a solid one. So many people will finally be able to experience this great series!

There shouldn't be any issues since it's a ps3 game but somehow it is a bit blurry.
A Switch is more powerful than a PS3 this was released on, so it’s not really surprising this runs well.
It runs well, but at a dismal resolution. Something like 520p portable.

I can't say it runs better as I never got into smt 5, tho I'll say there's no noticable dips in frame rate and game seems oddly well translated lol

I love many aspects about this but this series never had a serious enough look for me. I feel like giving it a shot but maybe when it's much cheaper.
SMT is a more visually serious series in the same franchise, I recommend trying those out in the meantime to warm you up to this game.

I would assume they'd remap that to probably the + or - button for the Switch.

Just a disclaimer for people considering this, it is NOT a good port. The only reason to choose Switch is portability. It's unplayable handheld. It looks like the screen is smeared with Vaseline and the absence of anti aliasing means every texture shimmers at the edges -- this in an anime style game that relies on sharp outlines. The Switch can run games like Borderlands 2 at native resolution handheld, so this port shouldn't be praised. It seems like a lazy, farmed out conversion with no input by Atlus themselves and very little care taken.
good to read this ! this is clearly not a good port. Resolution is below 500p handheld which makes the game look ugly and muddy and ruins a good part of the atmosphere.
Though most people lie and say its great. Its one of the laziest and most disappointing port Ive seen on switch.
No thanks I already got it on my PS4 and I need to save my money wisely.

Honestly I wasn't impressed with base p5 but I've never had a chance to play royal version. So I'll probably pick up switch version at some point when the release schedule isn't so packed.
Its super cool! Adds enough new stuff in royal to make it more interesting :) make sure to equip the free dlc sometimes, whenever i want a change of pace I change their clothes to be the P3 or P4 versions and it changes the music during times in the dungeon. Super nostalgic especially if you played any of the old persona games

@@kraenk12 or the writing just isn't good. Besides the teacher the rest of the villains are all over the top and cartoonish. The social links are all poor and end in the same way" person a is being bullied by person b you then go into Momentos change person's b heart and person a is indebted you for life" besides the rare ones of " person a is worried that person b is being bullied by person C do change person C heart and a is indebted you for life". Honestly it's the worst written persona game made.
Played it on PS4 and now will be playing it again on Xbox Gamepass! Hehe... Great game!
I suppose I am the only one who has zero interest in this port. The art style with the comic book flair doesn't do it for me and the story falls flat for what I particularly look for in an RPG. Very glad to see the performance is where it needs to be so all the fans can enjoy it on the Switch.
Masterpiece? They couldn’t even hit native resolution in handheld. If vanilla P5 could run at 720p on the PS3 I don’t get why we should expect anything less from a Royal Switch port. I’m disappointed.
