I remember before the end of 8th grade some guy by our school got hit by a Metra train. The school was/is legit right next to a large train track (The Harlem Avenue Train), and we heard/saw the helicopters and everything. For about a month we were forced to engage in train safety discussions, an assignment, a graded project, and EVERYONE had to watch this presentation in the gym.
Good message for kids, but there's plenty of adults who SHOULD know better but don't. Remember everyone, it can take a freight train over a MILE to stop. Don't gamble with a train, because the train will ALWAYS win.
There are 5,400 feet in eighteen football fields. One mile is 5,280 feet, so when they say a train takes more than a mile to stop, they are telling the truth!
When i very first saw the "stop on red signal" sign the forst thing i thouygh was hmm must be Michigan. I think MIchigan is one of the very few states that use the old school "stop on red signal" signs...
I live near Elkhart, IN. I have seen one or two minor accidents and trains run through our town it seems like every few minutes and we live less than one mile from the rail. I this would be good for my kids to see.
Tracks are for tracks, not for tracks. Kids are for kids, not for kids. Trains are for trains, not for trains. Tracks are for kids, not for trains. Trains are for kids, not for tracks.
I have been a railfan for 24 years and we have rules when it comes to taping anything or photography 1. TRAIN TRACKS ARE NOT SHORTCUTS! if your setting up a shot and you have to cross do it at a crossing. 2. STAY AWAY FROM STRUCTURES! Signals,Water Tower,Tipple, Grain Elevators, Signal Control Sheds, Trestles,Tunnels, and Track Detectors are on railroad property stay on the ground and 150 feet from the tracks. 3. NO WHEEL SHOTS! placing a camera on the tracks is illegal and should only be done with permission from the railroad. 4. STAY OUT OF THE YARDS! yards are railroad property if you want to view a yard find an overpass or go to Golden Spike Tower in North Platte. 5. STAY OFF EQUIPMENT ROLLING STOCK! and 6 HOBO's WILL BE ARRESTED! if your caught hopping a train you will spend time in jail. to report an emergency look for the phone number on the control shed if the railroad does not answer CALL 911
I remember the Conrail freights that used to run through my hometown of Brockton MA had horns like that, before they folded into CSX. The Conrail trains here generally had GP40s and U-boat diesels, while all the CSX freights here use GP40-2s.
That was a crash test Operation Lifesaver staged with a news network to show the public how much damage a train can do to an automobile. Whenever they do something like that, they never have anybody be in the car that's getting hit (sometimes they use crash test dummies.)
Instead of the same redundant line over and over again; this video could have expanded its cause with reminders like: "Tracks are for trains, not for.... adults cars bicycles ATVs snowmobiles roller-bladers hitch-hikers Feel free to add your suggestions, folks!
If your a Geocacher like me Don't place a Geocache with in 150 feet of the tracks its trespassing and you can get killed. also if a cache is placed of railroad equipment you can get busted Don't Hide Geocaches on train tracks.
Okay, so you guys say it's okay to watch trains, right? Then why everytime railfans trains, FROM A REPECTUVE DISTANCE, people still tell them to "get lost" and threaten to call the cops??? L
I wanted to be a train engineer when I became an adult but my mom said I should think of another job because there’s not a lot of trains around anymore.
trains stop for no one it will take 1 mile plus 30 feet to come to a dead stop and if anything is on the track it could get hit our the train will derail.
what if a teenager used his dad's woodworking shop and made a giant peace of wood at a 5% grade until the top of the peice of wood and used appoxy glued it to the track now that would do the trick

i live on a dead end st w 2 train tracks behind my place-kjids don't give a shit if they get killed here-i say it's against the law to walk o killed here-i have seen first hand what happens the train honked 8 timers-skidded to a stop to late 2 boys have been killeds here so deadly
Stop, Look, Listen and Live
A moving train does not forgive
Think twice before crossing that gate
A second later and it's too late
Once you ride onto that track
It's a one way trip and you ain't coming back
When tons of steel meet human flesh
Steel will win, no need to guess
It's against the law and common sense
Don't you cross that gate or fence
Wait right there it won't be that long
Don't take a chance or you'll be gone
It's a game that you cannot win
Few have lived to ever try it again
So listen up and play by the rules
Taking risks is a game for fools
Look both ways and stay alive
There may be others in the car you drive
When you hear a train that's passing through
Remember they've got a right to live, too
So Stop, Look, Listen and Live
A moving train does not forgive
Take it slow, don't be in such a rush
Or your dreams and more that train will crush
