@@tonymcpartland1770 Hello Tony, I think it was at Blighty's at FARNWORTH where I saw them and it would be in the early 70's. It certainly was an unforgettable experience.
@@carol-annebranagan7787 Hi Carol, W e saw them at the Fiesta in Norton,Stockton on Tees, they were amazing, the place was buzzing , also in the 70's Johnny Moore is one of my favourite singers 🙂👍
stephen brower ....I believe you are referring to Rudy Lewis.....I agree with you .....Rudy was an extraordinary talent.....His version of " Some Kind of Wonderful " is the most famous example of his warm and soulful voice .
@@mikevallen999 I totally agree and I strongly feel that Johnny Moore and Rudy Lewis were the absolute best lead singers ever for The Drifters! They were both so great I can't rank one over the other!! This is not slighting Ben E. King or Clyde McPhatter in any way!
Thank you :) I admit I do like some music nowadays, but I don't listen to the radio because it's full of pop crap. I prefer folk and anti-folk, then of course soul.
WOW---greatest talent ever. What a range of voice!! Heard this a lot growing up. Yes---who cares what flick you see as long as the one you love is with you--hold hands--steal a kiss or two and just cuddling!! Those days are gone now!! Pop corn was better too!!
My big brother passed away unexpectedly March 10. He LOVED the oldies, even though some might say he was "out of date." Every time I hear these great oldies I will always think of him.
Absolutely, %100 agree. There is nooooo comparison. I didn't grow up during this era. I came a little later, but developed an appreciation for the talent and originality of back then.
Remember hearing this at the youth club circa 1975. All the girls were dancing to it, they looked great. Also The Bump - Joe Tex was a bit hit on the dance floor. Began my love affair with soul music right there.
The Drifters: Great Hit...Saturday Night at the movie......Johnny Moore singer...
Yes, except for the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Protests, the assassinations of US President John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King and lastly the Cuban Missile Crisis....but thanks for playing, "Amnesty for Amnesia! lol.....sorry, I couldn't resist!
Every time that I hear this song I think of My Pops'. He knew a few of the members, and he use to play their songs to no end. Thanks for sharing this, it brings back great memories of the times that I spent with my Dad.
Real talent back then did not need fake gimmicks. Come to think of it, groups like this were and are better than anything computer generated. Give me the old days when everything was better. And real. And good.
Wikipedia says the Drifters went through about 62 singers in the groups career. The manager evidently did not want to pay them, and that's what drove Benny King away as well as others.
I have been looking for "sitting in the back row of the movies" for so long, I didnt know who sang the song. I remember the words from my youth whilst in hospital 1972 age 9 with my transistor radio on 3XY. It has bought so many memories back
+Andrew Tebby I assume you mean "Kissing in the back row of the movies" -- that is a different song, recorded by The Drifters after they had relocated to the UK in the early 1970s. It's also to be found on youtube.
Only three singers -- left to right -- Gene Pearson, Johnny Moore and Charlie Thomas. This must have been filmed around early 1966 when Johnny Terry was missing gigs due to illness, shortly before he left the group.
Music-I mean this much good music- has the power to make so many people happy for nothing or almost nothing! So, musicians have the right to get rewarded decently indeed.
i just come home from my town were the drifters turned on my towns christmas lights and they sang this song and beautiful girls they were pretty cool and there better live
Me, I'm a Clyde McPhatter fan. The founding member of the Drifters, Clyde was one of the most widely imitated singers of the late 50's and early 60's. Smokey Robinson said Clyde was one of his idols.
Mijn lieve Walther van mij! Dit hebben wij allemaal nog tegoed. Alles komt goed lieve Walther van mij! I love you forever xxxx ❤❤ als jij mij op komt halen, dan ga ik supergraag met jou mee!
I was lucky enough to see The Drifters live, they were sensational, the whole building vibrated to their sound. Brilliant group, brilliant songs .
Me too 🙂👍

What a catchy tune! He has a great voice. Love how he hits those high notes. I'm glad music like this is still played on oldies radio stations!
Johhny Moore. His favorite singer was Sam Cooke
Awesome job by Johnny Moore, the best lead singer for the drifters. Missed very much. RIP I never get tired of hearing him sing.
I like Lewis

Timeless and will still be listened to in 100 years time. Glad I saw the live once.
The fabulous Johnny Moore - who along with Rudy Lewis were the best lead vocalists the Drifters ever had - and two of the greatest vocalists ever!!!
Fabulous indeed!
What about the best and the original Drifters vocalists, the great and awesome Clyde Mcphatter and Bill Pinkney?
Probably the best ever
Thank you. Just read an idiot's blog about how underrated Rudy was. The were the two best leads, with no disrespect to Clyde or Ben-E King.
Jonney Moore as long as you are remembered by us loyal fans you or your music will never die
From an era when car radios were magic boxes that played beautiful songs like this classic! Thanks for posting it!
The Drifters, whoever was in the group at any given time, never made a song that wasn't simply enjoyable. They were great.
Nothing better than soul, this is the kind of music I crave! My generations music just doesn't do much for me. I really do love the drifters.
You have taste, I like you. Music just about gets worse every decade!
Thank you :) I admit I do like some music nowadays, but I don't listen to the radio because it's full of pop crap. I prefer folk and anti-folk, then of course soul.
Yeah, the only radio I listen to is the golden oldies. :) Folk is good, I would have to google anti-folk I think :P
Thomas Rudder doesn't get worse every decade... just terrible after 2010
ReturnoftheBrotha the drifters were soul..

Your brother was not out of date , he merely had excellent taste in music .
@@mikevallen999 Yes, he did, Mike. God bless.
My personal opinion..one of the top ten bands in the history of music. Certainly no one around today that even comes close.
This song epitomises my teenage years and growing up in the 60's - love it!

The class, Drifters, The late one and only voice of Johnny Moore. X FACTOR.

Johnny had an unforgettably sweet voice - at least we have the recordings. Beautiful.
The Drifters - song track of my life . Always puts a smile on my face .
Mine too - Love them!!
What a fantastic group. It was all about the music then, and boy did they exhibit that!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THE DRIFTERS!!!! all their songs are beautiful. remember Rudy West lead on the song UP ON THE ROOF.
April 7: Happy birthday Mr. Charlie Thomas of The Drifters. Thank you and God Bless...
Could have been one generation's hymn... all friends, no hate, a world to see and a girl to love!
"Who cares what picture you see..." Drifters, classic.
Lip-sinced, but who can't love to see Johnny Moore's animation and smile. That man is the best of the best.

They sing so well, and the rythm toally goes along well with it!

George Vreeland Hill Could not agree more. Just surprised this clip wasn't in color because if I remember rightly, this song came out around 1973.

How times change .. :(

That old pic is with Claudie who sang with the five crowns with his brothers poppa & john Clark.
can someone explain to me, how the drifters could have 4 (that i know of) fabulous lead singers, meanwhile, todays singers are average at best?
I think they had about 12 lead singers over the years. I loved them all especially pre mid 70s
Classic. Thank you
