Very enjoyable discussion. It’s great to see the Bond community to revisit and have great conversations about Fleming’s works . This was truly a great experience, thanks gentlemen for sharing and providing your time 👌🏻👍
Came across this when searching for current, active book clubs on Ian Fleming's novels. So instead of live face-to-face I'll read the book and then come back here for the Book Club look and feel.
After the ending of NTTD, I wanted to return to the origins of JB. Just finished reading Casino Royale and Live and Let Die for the first time. Really enjoyed listening to your reflections on this one and looking forward to following your footsteps through the other books 🔫 🍸
I tell you I prefer listening to this than having to study Quantitive Statistics today because I’m two weeks behind. “Bond didn't defend the practice. He simply maintained that the more effort and ingenuity you put into gambling, the more you took out...” Casino Royale
Flashing around the Folio Society edition for the thumbnail - you're a man of taste! I've got all the Folio editions they've published to date. I can't wait for the the last 3 to become available.
This is a very informative and entertaining broadcast. That was a good question, David, about whether the speed of Fleming's writing effected the quality. And Fleming having to quickly complete reports during wartime. Casino Royale as a novel is entertaining, but was surpassed by the following books of Live and Let Die, and Moonraker. They are more exciting.
Loved this! I know I'm a bit of a broken record in David's comments but not enough discussion about Bond's personal firearm. I know the panel probably isn't gun aficionados so understand but there is so much history and knowledge in the world of Fleming when it comes to the firearms. If my schedule wasn't all over the place I'd try to be around for the next discussion. Also, a bit surprised the topic of Poker versus Baccarat wasn't touched on.
I 1st read this book in 1990 thinking @ the time it was never going to be made into a film & Roland makes a very good point. The British do not like success so I’m not surprised to hear that Flemings popularity was treated in that way. Ps i I F-ing 🖤 the Bond community 💥💥🔫
There is a fleming story about the casino royale book, its based on a spy that fleming knew which was Dusko Popov, who was a double agent and playboy, there is a video on facebook breaking it down, if anything daniel craig kind of looks like Dusko Popov, but i think tom hardy could play him in a movie. So in that respect its kind of cool. So fleming had to look over him when taking Mi6 assets. So Dusko used the money mi6 gave him to use, and fleming had to look after it, Dusko lost some of the money I believe so he felt that he can do it again, and the second time he won against the nazis in the card game. And then fleming got the idea. There is a video on facebook on it, its great stuff, and Dusko Popov story should be told, and could be played by tom hardy or daniel craig.
The Casino Royale Book Club Discussion was EXCELLENT! I cannot wait for the next one!

Please have Edgar Chaput on again. He's terrific!
A great discussion with a lot of very interesting insight. Très Bien. Looking forward to the next book club vid.

I had to stop listening and multi-tasking because 13 minutes into the program there were four or five commercials.

I echo the words of Florante Galvez below.

You look like Kevin Costner
