The engine had been sat in the sidings just prior to the station for around an hour and a half, in that time water would've built up in the cylinders. It then moved the short distance into the station and then sat there for a further few minutes. The cylinder drains were open to clear all the water and condensation that had built up in that time. They wouldn't leave it open for any longer than necessary as it obstructs their view.
Excellent footage Thomas, quite a crowd out to see Britannia. Just a thought, I wonder if she's wearing a 73A shed plate in anticipation of the Saphos Golden Arrow trips?
@@themodster Thanks. I too was at Bosham Stn. Great to see Britannia running at speed. The last time I saw her was in April1963 at 1A, with 8 of her classmates. In the early 60’s this class were seen in considerable numbers working passenger trains out of Liverpool Street. Keep up the great work.
Excellent vid with Britannia looking and sounding great.
Thank you
Nice video Thomas :)
Cheers Simon
She was a fantastic sight that's for sure. That's also the busiest I've ever seen Christ's Hospital station!
Was good to see the locals out for it.
WTF - what’s with all the steam coming out the front when starting off? Did you EVER see that when steam was still on BR metals - never.

Cheers Callum, she proved popular with the locals. The shedplate is a nice touch.
It's because of the Kent trips that happened earlier in the year.
