This is the best interpretation of "Syrinx" I have ever heard. I think this is how Debussy would have wanted it to be played. In this interpretation, I can literally hear or feel the faun who is longing for his lost love. This is what the piece is about.

First and foremost, a composition “belongs” to the composer. Therefore, it is (in my opinion) justified to think about it, if the composer would have liked a certain interpretation or not. In my opinion - which you don’t have to share - music has a TIMELESS component to it and includes living and dead people as well, especially the composer and the people who have liked the composition and for whom it had a certain meaning - no matter if those people are already dead or still alive. You can’t get that tone out of a silver flute, honestly. Before thieves got to it, I had one of these 18ct gold on silver flutes. The tone was amazing. Jupiter DiMedici made the one I had.. hope this helps 🙂

I played this on my gold and silver flute for every competition in high school and a little beyond. When I was having a good day, it really was a showstopper of a solo piece. Nice to see someone else who chose the same piece. Debussy is dreamy.

It’s very tricky but a beautiful flute piece. I’m 31 now and don’t get to practice my flute as much as I’d like sadly 😢

I love how he fades out at 0:12 without going out of tune, it was so smooth. That’s something I definitely have trouble with

His embouchure is so relaxed that it almost looks like he's miming. My favourite flutist.
