It's still beyond me how more people don't know about this film. A beautiful hidden gem.
Dunno if someone commented this, but Shia had a huge drunk car crash two weeks into filming, and Zack begged him to go to rehab because he was ruining his life long dream to be in a movie. Shia was so affected by Zack’s pleas that he started rehab after shooting this film and during that process discovered that he had PTSD, and also wrote Honey Boy, in which he plays his own father.
And when Shia was asked to present an award at the Oscars, he said he’d only do it if he could bring Zack.
Yeah thought was becoming a better person but those things that resurfaced about him are really messed up.
@@terrydevlin3486 I’ve read about it as well. You can tell how deeply damaged Shia is just by his devotion to each performance. I’m hoping that eventually people will stop confusing great artistry with great personality. He seems to be a hard and divisive individual to work with and no amount of talent should make that okay by any standards.
@@memorieswithouthomes1438 yeah I just think going round killing dogs is fucked up lmao
Omg 😭
Love this movie, I heard the writers met Zack and he told them how he wanted to act so they wrote this specifically for him.
Also I think this movie is loosely based on Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.
Absolutely true. And from there they started shopping it around, and well Shia loved it, and pushed it.
Apparently they developed a true friendship during filming. Which if I am honest shows through. Simply elevates this movie beyond what it is. Truly beautiful.
Loved this movie. Another one with Shia from 2019 is Honey Boy. Highly reccomend it
Everyone like this man's comment! We gotta get this reaction
Honey Boy is amazeballs.
So is this movie.
Just f'n fantastic.
Honey Boy is an incredible film, and once you look into how true to Shia's childhood experiences it is, it becomes devastatingly sad. A must watch.
@@cfbg Oh, I'm not saying he's a great guy. Far from it. But he did have a sad, broken childhood. The two aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, more often than not, abusers were raised by abusers.
@@jordanwindham3804 Exactly. He is a product of his childhood. Not that it justifies it at all it only explains why he is the way he is now. It's a shame because I really want to like him but can't really condone that. Hopefully he can seek help and change but that's not easy.
Shia did say like: "ima bout to make the best movies i can" and make this and honey boy real oscar worthy performance in honey boy
While I wouldn't call it a performance as such, his appearance on Hot Ones is also great.
I always enjoyed Shia's acting, even as a child he was good. Glad you enjoyed this movie as much as I did.
Totally agree, I loved the movie Holes when I was young
Holes was an amazing performance.
My girlfriend and I use the "not invited to my birthday party" line when we're mad at each other and the gloves come off. So glad you picked this one. It was a pleasant surprise for me and is one of my top movies of 2019.
“The Wrestler” with Mickey Rourke is a must watch, is an understatement ✊
Yeah honestly pretty essential.
💯
Agreed. Also The Fountain.
@@kevinjs26 The Fountain is my favorite movie ever 😭
@@imadterkmani3736 same. Everything is perfect from the themes to the music to the color palette.
This movie occupies a weird space of passion project/storytelling/and friendship. The purity it possess is something else.
Beautiful movie.
At 22:24, I love how Tyler is just standing there with his thumbs up. It’s the little things in film.
I read this comment right before it happened. I don’t know if I would’ve noticed but what a small beautiful moment.
This is exactly what I noticed the first time I watched the scene, such a wholesome little gesture
TBH mad props to Salt Water for doing that. He didn't have to do that and It was probably really hard to do that but he did it for him and that takes guts.
The second I saw “Peanut butter falcon” I immediately like the video
Edit: Also! If you haven’t seen Shia since Even Stevens than you NEED to watch Fury!! It’s a MUST
Underrated comment
"wait till you see what a man can do to another man"
@@sandupdorje “gods grace”
Fury is amazing
The movie “fury” is also amazing and stars Shia and Johnny Berthnal
Shia is a really underrated actor, have you watched lawless? Tom Hardy is in it as well, an amazing movie that you should watch if you already haven’t
Guy Pearce kicking Shia's ass in that movie is one of the most brutal scene I've seen.
I’d love it if he watched lawless Gary oldmen Is in that aswell
Lawless is so amazing! Tom hardys 2nd best role after WARRIOR
@@CC-dm3iy I dunno man. His performance as Alfie Solomons is his best portrayal
I'm almost tired of recommending this movie. It's just incredible. My personal favorite moment of the movie (and there are many) is when Tyler has Zak put his head under water while he chews out Eleanor, and after Eleanor tells Zak to put his head back under water while she gives Tyler a piece of her mind. It's perfect.
I told my dad to watch it, every time I saw him. Finally, for Xmas, I just bought him a cheap DVD player and the DVD, and told him “No excuses! HA”
Anyone that's ever asked me for a feel good movie rec, this is what I tell them to watch,
This is honestly one of the sweetest movies I have ever seen, when we watched it we nearly flooded our basement theater with so many tears. ❤️😭
The referee for zacks match was Mick Folley and his opponent was Jake Roberts they’re both old WWE wrestlers
I thought I recognized him!
I worked w/ Jon Bernthal on Grudge Match and he's as cool as advertised!
Absolutely love this movie.
The referee in the ring was none other than the legendary mick Foley, the best wrestler of all time.
Also the guy fighting zak is Jake "the snake" Roberts another hall of Famer in the wrestling industry.
Dann never seen this movie and the reaction hit me pretty hard anyway.
Its kinda cool because your reactions let me see movies I wouldn't ever hear about.
Out of all the movies I have seen in the last few years, this one caught me way off-guard. I was in tears a lot because it was so wholesome. I went in knowing nothing besides it getting good reviews and it blew me away. The Way Way Back hit me in the emotions too. Heck, even Little Miss Sunshine ... The moral of that movie hit me.
2 of the producers also produced little miss sunshine
Very underrated Shia and Dakota performances; they definitely hit their strides after coming off some terrible flicks.
I love this film, glad you shared watching this with us
Try Thunder Road and Lars and the Real Girl
Shia Laboef is such a good actor!
I've never heard of this film, but I'm so happy that you introduced me to it... can't wait to watch the whole movie. You might be the best reactor on RUclips... thank you for what you do!
Thomas Haden Church in Office Space? Are you making mixing him up with someone else? My go-to movie for him is Sideways. :-)
the wrestler zack fights is a wrestling legend , jake the snake i believe . great review , i haven't seen this movie but is definitely going on my list.
And the legendary Mick Foley is the guy in the referee shirt that Saltwater talks to to set things up.
I think you'd like "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".
yes
Yes yes yes. Phenomenal film.
Absolutely essential viewing.
I went to a special screening for this that included a Q&A with producer of the movie, David Thies. I got ask him a question and even talk to him outside the theater after the movie about how to start my career in filmmaking. Really cool guy.
This is a beautiful movie to. Many people who attended this screening with me also had Down syndrome. I could tell this movie made a positive impact on everyone who watched it.
Glad you enjoyed it to.
It was great chatting with you about filmmaking! Thank you for coming to the screening and taking the time to talk with me! (It’s dave by the way)
Also... your reaction to seeing Shia in the back of the truck was mine too. I was SO WORRIED. This is just a feel good, heartwarming film. 💕
Shia is a Great actor man....deserve more respect.
Sooo glad you watched this!!!
Shia was asked during an interview what was the best thing he got from shooting and he said zak’s phone number. They still text each other. He also said that meeting and being around zak soften him. Beautiful film.
No way, that's Jake the Snake! :D
And Mick Foley! :D
glad l wasn't the only one to notice
What better way to tie into the being a good guy theme, then having him fight one of wrestling's most notorious bad guys? ;D
damn it's brutal how long his sentences are without taking a breath. By the time he finishes his sentence, every good scene is over.
Mick Foley & Jake ''The Snake'' Roberts
I watched this movie 3 times now, nice to see you react to this!
There are three completely different movies of recent years that have never failed to fill me with hope for humanity. Paddington 2, Bill and Ted 3, and The Peanut Butter Falcon.
What a pleasant surprise! I feel like this movie has gone under many peoples radar, its nice to see it on this channel! One of the best movies from the last few years in my opinion! And GREAT music!
Great movie with a great soundtrack. I fell in love with this movie as soon as I heard ola belle Reed on the soundtrack.
We spent a lot of time on music! Thank you for commenting.
YES!!!! one of my favorites!
@2:39 He’s one of the main characters in the movie Sideways.
28:40 that was cruel having him lying down in the back 🤣
God damn I was getting emotional
I recommend watching Honey Boy for a great Shia performance.
I literally saw this movie for the first time yesterday. One of the best films I've seen in a while. Just perfect for what it was.
I thought they may run across Rust and Marty out investigating a lead, feel good movie thanks Brandon!
one of the best films ive seen in the past fews years amazing
99 percent of the words in the movie was in the script. One line that wasn’t on the page was Zak and his line “party” that was ad lib between the two of them because it started raining and looked great on camera and we said keep going until we said cut and Shia turned and asked Zak what’s rule number one and Zak said party we all laughed in video village. Thank you for enjoying our film
you havent seen „FURY“ with Shia? Omg such a fantastic movie
You should watch Hunt For The Wilderpeople. It’s another film similar to this. Great story, one of my favorites.
Such a great fucking movie, i really underestimated Shia's acting.
And zack's a godamn legend.
Really enjoying your videos. Always look forward to see what you have to say about the movies/shows. Keep it up!
There's an indie movie "Short Term 12" that I think you'd love, Brandon!
Watch this dude
Oh my god that’s one of my favorite movies
I’m so glad you watched this. It’s really a beautiful film. It’s so inspiring and refreshing. It feels good for the soul!
Loved watching you react to this. It was like experiencing it for the first time, again.
I had given up on new films coming out when I saw this. I would put it up there with Forrest Gump. The writing, acting, impactful moments and clever humor, are stellar. This one takes you through the range of emotions, and leaves you feeling so damn good! 👏
Aw. I just watched this again last weekend.
Fantastic flik.
Honey Boy also rocked.
Hey there Brandon, so glad you watched this one...isn't it awesome? Loved it.
Cool little Easter egg: the referee at the wrestling match is Mick Foley.
I love these type of movies about different people and their perceived disabilities. Allowing people to live, learn, and even fail so they can grow and live fuller lives.
This is one of my fav movies
This movie had me crying several times. Such a good movie.
Safe Men from 1998... a buddy comedy with Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Paul Giamatti, Mark Ruffalo, and Peter Dinklage
Freaking love this movie. So excited that you reacted to it.
You have to watch "The Fundamentals of Caring" with Paul Rudd. It has an awesome relationship between the two main characters like this one!
The tire iron moment took everyone including myself unawares but personally I think it shows his investment so much in his friend that he didnt notice/avoid the dude coming at him. I think we all shared that fearful moment after too. Lol great reaction man
Tysm for reacting to this Brandon
Well now you HAVE to watch Honey Boy!! I’ve been looking forward to your reaction to The Peanut Butter Falcon and Honey Boy ever since I found your channel!! :-) So glad it’s finally happening!!
One of the best films I saw at the cinema this last year. If you want to venture further afield, there is a really cool Belgian film in a similar vein called "The Eighth Day", which I highly recommend. Great reaction as always!
I’m beyond glad that your watching this such a feel good movie I personally rate it 9/10
I've never even heard of this movie, will have to check it out
My recommendations would be "Sing Street (2016)" or "Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)"
One of my favourites such a feel good movie
This movie makes me so happy. It’s the perfect combination of funny and heartwarming while also being kind of sad.
yayyyy I was waiting for someone to react to this one! Love your videos Brandon... also I thought the same thing about the wrestler in the video, my whole family asked if that was Rex haha
So happy your watching this my man
I was so glad this movie was on amazon prime. I watched it for the first time just before I watched your reaction. Never even heard of it before it popped up on your channel.
I can’t believe you watched this, I thought I was the only one that watched it 👍🏼
Yes! So happy you watched this. Now you need to see "Hunt for the Wilderpeople".
Love this film, great reaction dude 👍
Love the movie, its a simple story but has heart and humor. Its just a feel good movie.
Ps Brandon are you gonna upload your Casino reaction?
Pretty damn good. My heart tightened up a few times haha.
Very underrated movie. Glad you enjoyed it as well.
Damn you man!
I saw you uploaded this video so before watching reaction wanted to check myself. I cried.
After watching it wanted to check your video out. I cried A LOT. Like... A LOT.
DAMN
Great duo!
Absolutely adore this movie and your reaction. Thanks for choosing it. Another movie you’d love is Short Term 12. Similar vibe, very funny and some great character drama.
I loved this movie so much and love seeing your reaction to it! Shia and Jon are close friends in real life too (ever since acting in Fury together). I was lucky enough to go to a screening of Shia’s film Honey Boy, Jon Bernthal moderated it with Shia answering questions. You could feel the love between them!
We didn’t have an actor to play Shia brother in the film and he called Jon Bernthal up and said we need you for 2 days to finish this film and Jon hopped on a plane and came to Savannah to film with us.
This movie made me feel so happy
Hey Brandon, have you seen or reacted to Stand By Me yet? That would be my rec for something similar to PB Falcon...an adventure on the road between friends, it's a classic.
What a heartwarming story
The older dude in the beginning is Bruce Dern :)
He’s always so awesome!!
Mick Foley as the referee is pretty dope. 25:47 Have a nice day! They also got Jake the Snake! I gotta check this flick out. Looks like a good one.
One my fav of the year, really underated movie, great reaction! some good recent independent movie recommendations.
The Way Way back
Sing Street
Dope
Mud
Black Swan
Ditto for The Way Way Back! Actually pretty similar with the heartwarming vibe.
I watched this movie just so I could see Brandon's reaction.
I did not expect this
Just watched this film today and what a beautiful movie I really enjoyed the story and little themes within. Great acting from Zack.
The Devil All the Time is an amazing film with Tom Holland (Spider-man) and robert pattinson (twilight). This really shows the range that both actors can go with their abilities and I promise you that this will heighten your appreciation for tom holland and how much range he has as an actor. Once again, it’s a must watch !!
You mean Robert Pattinson (Good Time), or Robbert Pattinson (Lost City of Z), or just Robert Pattinson (anything but twilight) lol
@@bigtony1434 don’t tell me i’m wrong though whenever you see that man you get reminded of that dam vampire movie lol
@@BrianJitsu haha yeah you have a point. I don’t know how he feels about that now
Oh man you need to watch Lawless with Shia and Tom Hardy.
Super movie. you should look at how they made it and watch a few interviews with shia and Zachary, they have so much chemistry together.
This movie made me cry a lot.
I saw this in the theatre when it first released, and it actually took me a few minutes into the movie to realize that it was Shia Labeouf from Holes. This was such a heartfelt film, and it seems like independent films are more like that, and not burdened by big corporations. A couple of other independent films that I would highly recommend Brandon, is The Green Book, and Slumdog Millionaire, which are both really well made films imo. Lastly, "What's rule number one?"
The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke is a must bro!
