After a wonderful week in Venezuela working with the awesome kids in the El Sistema program I decided to finish the end of the concert with a special encore with my two very good conductor friends Diego Matheuz and Christian Vasquez! It was also my debut as a conductor (moment of glory), as well as Diego and Christian's first time picking up the violin in almost 10 years! Me gusta!

Musicians have the best humor, they are doing the funnyest things without saying anything while making amazing music.
S.J.W.Bach, I agree!!!!!😁
Imagine if concertos were all like this...
S.J.W.Bach I don’t remember making you.
J.S. Bach nah he's your great great grandson
S.J.W.Bach OMG YESSS
The story goes that Ray never got his Strad back.
He's got a strad??
@@user-wk8cf8wx1d yeah
Original strad or a high end copy?
@@humanbeing1429 Not sure which one he's using here, but he's been loaned 3 Strads by the Nippon Music Foundation. He uses the Joachim 1715 Strad in a lot of his performances so it might be the Joachim here.
@@humanbeing1429 legit ones.
It's like a game of "Guess who the Strad is with" 😂
Check the F holes
Yanjun Sun there’s the makers signature sticker/label that you can see through the f holes

Those lucky front row violinists that get to play that Strad.
da96103 so true
she was the second's principal tho
IKR I’m crying 😭
Those kids , They are now playing in top orchestras all over the world !!🌎
ou yesss...
Now THAT's how you play Musical Chairs properly... :)
justannathechannel i
Yup... *PROPERLY*🤣
666th like
justannathechannel With a strad i guess
but it was musical standing and two chairs
Never underestimate the conductors guys. There is a reason they leading the whole damn thing lmao
I would have take that strad and run lol
Niccolo Paganini Cuz why did you gamble your strad anyways?😂
@@melancholicruby2873 It was an Amati he gambled LOL
@@mohanjones7554 Either if it was a Strad or an Amati, It still expensive, that Paganini would still be considered crazy for such an act.
But Ive heard that it was a strad , but Ill do more research so I will confirm whether it is an Amati or a Strad
@@melancholicruby2873 so? Which was it?
niels van blitterswijk Some say he’s still researching to this day
There is something hillarious about a guy in a suit being taught how to hold a violin by someone wearing such a colourful jacket.
lmao so true
If I am not mistaken, the jacket colors is bc the Venezuela's flag colors
@@lltinkerbell yes, that jacket is worn in some events by el sistema players so its kind of a more informal uniform
This is so funny! It really just proves how musicians can play so many different roles, and share the passion of music through so much fun. One day, I hope to do something like this.
You will, m8 :D
i lost track of who had whose violin after the 3rd swap
Bach's triple violin concerto for a short moment
It's been 5 years and no-one's mentioned the fact that the last time the conductors had picked up the violin was just under 10 years ago...
Conductors actually need to know how to play 4 instruments. Since violin’s rank is high I’ll bet any conductor knows how to play one, including piano and a few other instruments. How do you lead a whole team of musicians if you don’t know how the instrument they are playing works?
@@violetflower1994 you learn as you go
@@jakewatson668 😂
@@violetflower1994 i know a lot of conductors that play 1 instrument, two at best. where did you get this? 😅
Somebody
That's silly, I don't believe that, and you should know better.
So impressive that even though Ray was pushed down the podium, his violin playing goes on perfectly undisturbed!!!!
Right?!
I mean think about it.Some people can read why walking around. It's the same for violin.I've done it to.It's not that hard.
@@antalbodis1257 Seriously? At that speed? That level? I rather doubt it. Ray is special.
@@wallacememberships Yeah I mean at hard pieces you have to concentrate on two things.Playing perfectly and walking😀.But really you can get used to it.I used to practice it in conservatory.
@@wallacememberships And yeah Ray is undoubtedly one of the best violinist on the planet right now.
I love how seamlessly they transitioned from one performer to another.
The concertmaster did a great job accompanying Ray 👌
The concertmasters are often more experienced than the soloists. They have countless hours of practicing, rehearsals and performances on their belt.
Audience: *cheers*
Mic: ***BREAKS***
bubble tea YES, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO CRIED BECAUSE OF THE MIC ;-;
My ears!!!
I'm floored that the conductors play so well after 10 years! Absolutely hilarious and one of my favorite concertos as well
You don't need an autograph. If he plays your violin, it is literally a kind of autograph.
Normies:"Classical music is too serious and boring"
Me: *shows this video*
I will send this video from now on every time someone says this
@@octave11thpianist58 And also the Czardas video and twoset

@2:30 _"Yer a conductor, Harry."_
Best comment ive ever seen
But Hagrid, I can't be uh.. uh... uh... A conductor; I'm just Harry 😂😂😂
Well just harry “Yer a Conductor
Looooool
Just wonderful , now I was search for a pancake recipe ,.... how did I get here ?
Wait... What?
Just go with the flow, man.
well that’s the power of music
Ray made a batch of pancakes around the 3 minute mark, didn't you see?
Flour, milk, eggs, a pinch of salt. Go for thin crepes.
For this, you need to have experience playing the
-1st violin part of Bach Double
-2nd violin part of Bash Double
-conductor experience
-concert master experience
and the ability to mix them all at once
Good luck!
Well said!😄
Ray trying to squeeze all the sound off that violin was one of the best parts
i just love how the winds, brass and percussion's just sitting in the back, watching.
In the head of the principal second violin: "i play on a stradivarius, I play on the ray chen's stradivarius , if only I could steal it. He's nit gonna see it"
Wow, what a difference in sound the violin makes between the principal 2nd's violin and Ray's Strad. Not saying the skill of the player isn't important but it's clear that the sound quality literally changes from an amateur to professional sound between the two violins. It really is night and day. Never realized the importance that a strong violin brings for the player.
The funny thing is...that's not his strad, its a modern violin
It was made by Kurt Widenhouse
How Happy she must be to play his Strad :)
choiboi2 Kbergmann
There's also the fact that you'll have a better playing on your own instrument. Also this violin might not be a violin for soloist (I don't know how to say it otherway in english) so a violin with a stronger and higher volume output, so you've to find other way to make the violin sound loud enough and that impact the sound ^^ but yes for sure, the Strad sound so nice. The principal 2nd violin must have been "Am I playing on... a STRAD?!!"
Glad to see classical musicians having fun.
Ray after concert:
Stop ... Holy Moly, where is my violin ... 😅🤣😭😭
This is one of the reasons i love classical music❤
taylor swift ain't that bad either .
amazing conducting by ray chen
Just saw this for the first time. I wish i couldve been there in person! Wow!
Idk why but my heart felt so warm after watching this ❤
Music and some sense of humor, life is complete now
This is why I love Ray

HAHA
LMAO
I'm impressed at how seemless that sounds despite all the moving around. This looks so fun!
One of my very favourite concertos played so well and having the piss taken out of it at the same time!! I enjoyed every minute of it. Clever musicians all of them.
music and humor, Life is Good
