Teddy P How did he get the nickname YOG, what does it mean?
Yog' is a shortened version of his Greek name 'Georgios' which has a much softer 'Y' sounding G at the beginning and a much harder 'G' sounding G in the middle. This name was used when Andrew was introduced to George, and why he still refers to him as 'Yog'. When he was introduced he said the name sounded like yogurt, so Yog it became.
Fil, from Wings of Pegasus, has Shirley Lewis (second woman George introduced) on two of his videos where he interviewed her about singing with George.
She was originally a backup singer for Elton John and said George "stole her" from him. Apparently, she is the only other vocalist on 'Faith' with George. She said George taught her to sing to match his voice and did this with future vocalists. Fil uses software that shows vocalists singing and other features. I highly recommend watching these videos with Shirley. It was a completely different perspective of George through the eyes of someone who worked with him for almost twenty years.
George's ear was like no other. He could tell where certain back up singers would fit in with his music. Actually, I see them more as a choir supporting George. No one has singers, truly gifted singers like George did.
He supported many of them in their own outside projects as well as his band. Many, many other singers would let their ego get in the way. Not George! He supported his colleagues in whatever way he could. He was humble and generous. He could step back from the spotlight. He allowed Deon (bass player who had been with him since Wham!) by singing background on his albums. He co-wrote 'Heaven Help Me' with Deon and sang background vocals on it. I remember it being a very popular song in the late 80's as well as producing his album. It is safe to say George's band and singers were considered more like family then just backing vocalists working to get paid.
I have often wondered how they are doing after George's death. It must have been incredibly difficult for them to lose their friend and music collaborater they had been with for many, many years. 💔
There's four people who must have been heartbroken at his passing. They shared his talent and his love of his fans for so many years. In many ways they knew him better than most as George once said his music was more important than his own personal life.

George Michael thought the world of many people. He always gave people the benefit of the doubt. Ive been a fan since Wham and was lucky enough to have grown up with this super talented singer song writer. Every song I can identify a time in my life where the memory isburned in to my soul. How lucky are we to have grown up with George.

I pray that he did too. What a wonderful way to warm up before a show singing and harmonizing about Jesus!
I agree. He obviously seems to know who Jesus is. As much as I love his music and thought he was one of the most beautiful creatures ever, I hope he made it to Heaven. He certainly was given a gift of a beautiful voice.
