As a "entry level" rig, the playseat challenge is absolutely awesome. I've had mine for a year (that I bought second hand together with my thrustmaster t300 wheel) and I've spent countless hours sitting comfortably in the seat. Very nice, throughout review. Thumbs up :D
looks like they've solved the pedal issues on the playseat challenge x logitech version - both pre-drilled plates and they've profiled the tubing so that the tightening screws sit in dips, rather than just relying on friction alone. They've made it a little wider around the knee area and the straps have gone in favour of locking clamps (which may make it a little fiddlier to set up and put away, but only by a few seconds - it does mean you only need one velcro strap for the pedal frame though...so it probably works out about the same amount of time for stowing it away). I'm seriously considering buying the new one, even though there's nothing essentially wrong with the one I have. They've basically ironed out the small flaws that were there......with the exception of one little thing......the angle of the head rest area. If I could adjust that slightly, it would be damn near perfect....it's especially relevant when doing a VR session. I use a cushion placed at shoulder blade height to create a little space at the moment, but some way to adjust the angle would make the playseat challenge a complete and utter no-brainer
Just as an update I bought the challenge x version and it is actually possible to mount the headrest area backwards to angle it away from your head a little (much better for VR :-)). Everything else seems like a substantial upgrade, feeling like a jump in quality over the original. However, while assembling the chair, one of the hooks that fasten the pedal tray to the chair snapped (it takes a large amount of force to click them onto the frame), so I'm waiting on a reply from playseat about replacing it. I don't dare remove the one I actually got onto the frame, for fear of breaking that as well.

The price was virtually the same for both so that was a wash. After some more research, I decided to go with the GT-Lite. What made me go for the NLR rig was specifically the pedal rack. My issues were wheel deck wobbliness and lack of shifter mount, but after couple of trips to the local hardware store, I solved them fairly easily, now I've got a shifter mount and a pretty solid wheel deck, so well happy

hi Kirteh ! i have long arms for an optimal position in reaching the wheel would you recommend to angle back rhe sit or perhaps invert the metal plate stand, would that possible too ?
I have V3 pedals on it and I had to add 2 belts because I broke eveything on the very first brake. Put it from the chair base to the pedal end side and now it’s fixed. I’ll try to follow your advice to tighten the wheel base. Thank mate.
@@Kireth Oh Kireth you GENIUS! I just tried that, and the stability has already improved a lot. Wonder why I never did that already. And I unscrewed a bit the right part so the plastic cap needs to be pushed to get closed firmly. You Legend Kireth.

Lowdown Shifter has some really cool mods for the issues you were pointing out. I'm just buying the challenge to use for a couple months until I can afford an ASR4, but I'll be using the Fanatec Clubsport v3 pedals on it. I'm really hoping the mods will come in soon after. The pedal plate will make a huge difference.
I always leave my pedals and wheel attached when folding it up to put back in the cupboard(logitech). Don't have the space for a rig to be set up permanently unfortunately. The ease and speed of set up was what sold me on the seat over other portable options. Am looking at modifying an old comms rack shelf as a pedal plate when I get my dd pro
Great review mate. Quick question. I see you have the back/lumbar strap over the arm rest velcro strap instead of under it. Any reason for that? And does put any extra stress on the fabric wear it meets the metal bracket? I had to replace my first playseat after 3 weeks as the fabric was pulling away from the cutouts on the head rest. I’m not a large guy, so this shouldn’t have happened. They way you have yours set up looks as if the lumbar strap is helping with load bearing (that’s the best way I can put it) I’m just worried that having it set up in that way might damage the lumbar support or the fabric. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers for the helpful video :)
Hmm not sure, but the way I have it setup gives incredible lumbar support for my back! Maybe I've been lucky that I haven't been putting too much force on that bit. Even high end gaming chairs can't compare against the lumbar support imo
I just recently ordered me one of these to upgrade from the set up I have now. I have a Logitech G920 and currently have it all set to a Vevor wheel stand and use my GTRacing chair with wheel cups so it doesn’t move and don’t get me wrong it works for 10-15 lap stints on F1 or Forza but the angle you sit in the chair compared to the pedal deck just hurts your ankles after a while. I’m looking forward to this new set up and see how it changes my driving experience
Does ANYONE else on planet Earth get in and out of this without unlatching the wheel base thingy?.... with my current setup i cant unlatch it and relatch it i kinda have to get in the way it is. I just wanna know if even 1 other person out there does that
I agree, it’s the best entry-level chair/rig. My only complaint is that the plate for the steering wheel moves up and down a bit even when I’ve tightened the knob. Since that’s not happening with yours, I wonder if there’s something wrong with mine?
I have an copy of this made by XR (not sure of the name as I bought it used) it's pretty much the same but the pedal deck uses square tubing. My G29 pedals fit perfectly between the plastic that connects the tubing and the bar on the end so I don't need to use the velcro. One issue I have is that the velcro that adjusts the chair dosent stay done up but I'm using cable ties untill I find a better solution
I have an ADX Ultimate Gaming rig, it was about £150 too. I had to redrill the pedal plate to shift it over to reach the brake pedal as the steering wheel plate is supported by a center metal rectangular bar, also after a couple of hours the pain in my coccyx is immense. I am awaiting the delivery of a 'ergonomic' seat cover that will hopefully improve it. Other than that it is a good starter rig, it looks the bomb which is why I bought it and ofcourse the price. A new era dawns Kireth, I am really looking forward to having you back streaming. Like deployed 👍 😎🎙🏎✅
You should do a follow up analysing some of the aftermarket Playseat reinforcement systems, such as Indigo Lime. (Which is what I have, since I got the Fanatec CSL-DD wheel.)
When I designed my own sim racing rig I used the wheel plate and pedal plate from my old playseat evo rig to fix my Tgt wheel to the rig ,works at treat .
I started on a playseat challenge. When I made the switch to fanatec I fabricated a pedal deck to fit the csl elites for the exact problem you mentioned
This seems perfect for me. It needs to be able to fold, and this is super slim and fastly folded. Perfect. Thanks for the review. Calmly and patiently done, great !
You literally read my mind as I was just about to ask for a video like this 😂 What I am not completely happy about is the position of the headrest. If I adjust the seating position to sit a bit more upright, the headrest pushes my head forward into a very unnatural and uncomfortable position. But on the other hand if it's in a more laying position, I have to reach out quite far to the wheel, almost having my arms straight, which is very uncomfortable when doing long races. Did you ever notice anything like that? Could you give some advice about how to adjust the seating position properly to fit your needs? Possibly in another video? And also I was thinking about upgrading to loadcell pedals but my biggest concern was exactly what you mentioned that the two plastic screws would not withstand the force applied when braking. How much kg were you actually applying? Anyway thanks for the good review, appreciate it! 🙌👌
Hmm I can go more in depth into the adjustments! Try sitting on a cushion to bring bring wheel closer. Not sure how much force but it was 80% on the fanatec BRF setting!
Nice review Kireth 👌 Agreed that the pedals mount is horrible with the Challenge..... I started with the next level gt lite frame and it had a plate for mounting the pedals and could be flat on floor or inclined position. Definitely made a world of difference. I too had the flex issues you did not horrible but noticeable the more serious you get about sim racing. I recently got an 8020 rig too, just got it together yesterday. Basically a GT Omega Art frame. Can't wait to get it dialed in to feel the difference between rigs..... Nice review, great insights, love the channel content!
@@Kireth just saw another review video that shows there are replacement parts and add ons to get rid of all the flex.... includes a new mount for pedal deck to get rid of movement and clamps to hard mount any set of pedals..... Indigo Lime makes and sells the parts! Looks promising for a solid solution. Cheers 🍻 P.S. will let you know how the GT Omega gets on....
I recently bought a logitech g920 (I think, a budget wheel, pedals and H-pattern shifter) and my back i seriously hurting from my table. So I wonder will they fit this rig?
you know you can actually put the steer mount to the side and just get out. theres a latch you rotate and then you can put the steering frame (even with the steer attached) and just put them to the left. and get out. its why they have that little leg sticking out to the left.... so you dont have to climb out
I bought one a few months ago but with some work going on in the house I've not had a chance to use it in a month. It's comfy, and quick to set up, I only have a G29 with it but it seems to work nicely. It's sort of that perfect price to practically thing for me.
You use the upper velcro wrong. You have to do the velcro between the holes in the head support of the seat and around the knob of the wheel support plate.
I use strips for my Fanatec v3 pedals and i never had any problem that the pedals getting loose, i also use csl dd with boost kit on my playseat challenge.
@@Kireth Yes, it's cable tie inn english not strips. im from norway so my english writing is bad :) i use cable tie through the 4 screw hole on the v3 pedals, and its goes around the pedal pipe on playseat challange. it has never come loose, and i have had the pedals for 2 years now.
I've bought Fanatech bundle and saw what you mean about the pedals. But it was easily fixed by going to the local hardware store, and getting 2 pieces of metal for $2 that I put under the CSL pedals :) problem solved!.
Have had the same seat since 2015, but I never experienced the flexing. So it might be something they fixed. And I always use the "tilt the wheel" to get in and out. I agree that the seat is really comfortabel!. Not sure I understand the whole problem with the brakepedals. Never had problem with the brakes goes away with the plastic screws :D If the brakepedals are not wide enough, you could always use some kind of MDF tree plank to put under hte breakpedals. This seat works perfect with the logitech force gt pedals anyway.
I’ve had one for a year now and am very happy with it, I have a CSL Elite and CSL pedals and have fixed the pedals with zip-ties and they’re rock solid. However, another drawback not mentioned in the video, is the lack of decent solutions for mounting shifters, especially the Fanatec shifter that’s quite heavy. I’m still working on some sort of DIY solution for that.
Oh, and just to add, the official Playseat shifter mount plate is just… it makes no sense. It places your shifter next to the wheel, so it’s pretty much useless.
Thinking about buying one, but not sure about the size. I'm 92kg (202,8 pounds) and 188cm (6,2 feet) . Will I fit good in it? By the way. Love the review 💪🏽
Hi Kireth, great video about the review for the Playseat Challenge. I was thinking about getting a sim rig myself and planning to get the new Thrustmaster T248 for this. Would this Playseat Challenge rig fits the Thrustmaster T248? Appreciate your opinion and feedback on whether the combination. As always, keep up the AWESOME video content. :D
Thanks for the excellent review, you remind me of Louis Theroux for some reason . But anyway i believe there is a revised version of this seat now, the PlayseatChallenge Actifit, I’m not sure if it fixes any of the issues sigh the pedal base or not but it looks like there is an easy work around for the original with bolting a board onto it as you suggested
Why does the seat have such a huge bend in it ? People are already slouched forward enough. This cant be good for your back and neck. The difference with a real seat like the one you have in the back is appalling
Cool review Kireth. For those that are handy with a hammer and saw, try building your own. I picked up a very comfortable, fully adjustable bucket seat out of a Kia from my local wreckers for AU$50. Using some 19mm particle board and pine for the framework (all scraps scrounged in my shed) i managed to build a robust cockpit that can be wheeled out whenever I feel like playing. Kids can sit in it with a pillow under their bum, right up to 200cm giants can slip right in. My pedals can lock into 3 different positions in seconds making it super easy to swap out drivers. The TV sits on top of my "dashboard" and the playstation is built into the dash under the TV. A coat of matt black and it looks the goods too. Thousands of very comfortable hours of racing for less than $100. It doesn't have to cost thousands, it just has to be functional
I use the Fanatec V3 pedals with my Playseat Challenge and have no issues at all. I used zip ties to attach them and haven't had any problems yet. I've had it for a year now, wish i had the space for a real rig but living in a condo i can't fit one. The Playseat is a great option, very comfortable and easy to store out of the way when it's not in use. The top bat has some play as you mentioned but it's definitely manageable. Great review!
I have one too and I like it a lot. My main thing was the foldig which I thought I should use a lot but it turned out it was so compfy I use it all the time now. I do some racing but my main gaming is in FP shooters so I made a lapboard (baically just an MDF board fully covered with a large mouse mat) and now I use it for both the racing I do but mainly for FPS gaming AND when I occationally work from home. The main drawback when using it for other things than racing is imo that the pedals are somewhat in the way when I want to sit 'normally'. I have never had any issue with the pedal board but I'm on entry level pedals (G29). I also get in and out as you do here and a word of warning about 'opening' it is that it is easy to cut off any wires with such a 'scissors action'. Another drawback is that it is a bit 'narrow'. One cannot really do a 'manspread' for some circulation in the 'below regions'.
I’ve had mine a similar time and fixed the issues with pedal deck - wooden plate fixed to it with T-LCM’s mounted and the plastic screws replaced with metal ones. I think with those issues resolved it’s an awesome seat if you need the flexibility or price point. Looking forward to mounting my DD PRO on it 😃😃
Great seat but the pedal mount is utter shite! I've had mine a few years now and have made a few mods and tweaks over that time. Biggest being the pedal mount. I ended up making an entire 'floor' (a pedal mount that goes right under the entire seat) that hooks onto the front legs and a block under back legs to prop it up for a more upright seating position. I got an extension cable for the pedals so it now has a break in the connection near the board for easy detatchment when folding away. All this faffery was triggered by installing the TrueBrake mod on my G29 causing the seat to wheelie every time I stamped on the brake (because of how much harder you need to press). But all the faff was worth it in the end as it is now way more stable (side to side stability also) while in use and now that the pedals can be completely separated/untethered from the seat itself, it is much easier to fold and stow, either together or apart. The floor board is similar length to the folded seat itself so it doesn't get much bulkier when stacked together with the folded seat. But I got really short legs so...
are you joking? you're telling me that in five years you haven't figure out that the wheel frame tilts all the way to the left so you can get out? thats why it has a tube in the middle that extends to the left so the thing doesn't topple over! you must be joking.... read the instructions please. 5 years.....
Lol - try bolting on a CSL Elite and then doing that

hi Kirteh ! i have long arms for an optimal position in reaching the wheel would you recommend to angle back rhe sit or perhaps invert the metal plate stand, would that possible too ?
Have you tried a F1 style position? Should help!
I have V3 pedals on it and I had to add 2 belts because I broke eveything on the very first brake. Put it from the chair base to the pedal end side and now it’s fixed. I’ll try to follow your advice to tighten the wheel base. Thank mate.
Let us know if it helps!
@@Kireth Oh Kireth you GENIUS! I just tried that, and the stability has already improved a lot. Wonder why I never did that already. And I unscrewed a bit the right part so the plastic cap needs to be pushed to get closed firmly. You Legend Kireth.
I'm getting a DD Logitech Pro wheel and pedals which are definitely premium products but I have a very little room space so I need ideally a rig that can be folded and put away. Would you recommend going with this or something else?
I'm looking at buying a PlaySeat evolution next week hopefully. Great review though thanks.
And also, nice socks

@@Kireth I'll let you know. I thought about the omega but it's too big for my location at the moment ☹️
It is a beast!
I found one on ebay that clamped on for a shifter.
Yep I think that's a little known feature. Pretty mad you can have a decent rig and then fold it away in seconds
@@Kireth Thanks. I’ll give it a go
Follow u on tiktok. Been hammering forza with a controller, joined a race league. Just taken the plunge into my first rig
Welcome to RUclips!
Very good review, ordered mine earlier, getting it either tomorrow or Monday, currently have a G29 and I have new Fanatec CSL pedals on the way
I just recently ordered me one of these to upgrade from the set up I have now.
I just wanna know if even 1 other person out there does that
Im confused, in other videos people lift one end to get in/out?
I agree, it’s the best entry-level chair/rig. My only complaint is that the plate for the steering wheel moves up and down a bit even when I’ve tightened the knob. Since that’s not happening with yours, I wonder if there’s something wrong with mine?
Screw it real tight and check the arm itself isn't moving from the connections either side 👍
Like deployed 👍

You should do a follow up analysing some of the aftermarket Playseat reinforcement systems, such as Indigo Lime. (Which is what I have, since I got the Fanatec CSL-DD wheel.)
My chair snapped in half. I hopped in and out as you demonstrated in the video.
Just reinforced it and weld it. Now it works perfectly again :))
Love to hear it!
fantastic review! thank you for that! i wonder if u had problems with the seat lifting up while applying pressure on loadcell pedals while breaking
When I designed my own sim racing rig I used the wheel plate and pedal plate from my old playseat evo rig to fix my Tgt wheel to the rig ,works at treat .

Nice 1 dude 🤣👍
I started on a playseat challenge. When I made the switch to fanatec I fabricated a pedal deck to fit the csl elites for the exact problem you mentioned
Share some pics in our Discord if you have them!
i bought mine in March and I love it. the storability of it is one of the best features. and comfy!!
Can never overestimate the comfiness!!
This seems perfect for me. It needs to be able to fold, and this is super slim and fastly folded. Perfect. Thanks for the review. Calmly and patiently done, great !
I’m thinking about getting this with a DD pro for Gt7 but I’m also contemplating the gt lite from next level racing but not sure which one
Playseat may struggle with a DD pro mate!
New into sim racing got the G29, looking at getting this looks good. Would logotech G29 pedals be OK on here?👍🏻
100% they would be fine on here! I run a GT Omega rig now though
@@Kireth thanks! Order has been placed 🙌🏻
The screw you were talking about is made to release the platform the wheelbase is on so you can move it away for easier entry. (5:16)
You literally read my mind as I was just about to ask for a video like this 😂
What I am not completely happy about is the position of the headrest.
Nice review Kireth 👌
Agreed that the pedals mount is horrible with the Challenge.....
YES! Let us know how you get on with the GT Omega rig!!
Cheers 🍻
P.S. will let you know how the GT Omega gets on....
Playseat challenge or NLG F-GT Lite? I need easy to fold and store since i dont have big space. I’m also big guy so need easy to go in & out
playseat!
I recently bought a logitech g920 (I think, a budget wheel, pedals and H-pattern shifter) and my back i seriously hurting from my table.
So I wonder will they fit this rig?
The wheel & pedals will, for the shifter you need an add-on mod.
Can you remove the seat material to machine wash it?
Uhhh I don't see a reason why not!
@@Kireth looking at buying second you see and wonder if the material can be machine washed. Cheers
you know you can actually put the steer mount to the side and just get out. theres a latch you rotate and then you can put the steering frame (even with the steer attached) and just put them to the left. and get out. its why they have that little leg sticking out to the left.... so you dont have to climb out
Yeah but it's a pain to lock it again, also not that easy with a heavy base and wheel. Good points tho
Have you tried using the Moza R5 on the Playseat Challange? Is it compatible? Great review!
I bought one a few months ago but with some work going on in the house I've not had a chance to use it in a month. It's comfy, and quick to set up, I only have a G29 with it but it seems to work nicely.
It's sort of that perfect price to practically thing for me.
Yep exactly, you can store it away until the works are completed!
Can you explain the strips?
@@Kireth Yes, it's cable tie inn english not strips. im from norway so my english writing is bad :) i use cable tie through the 4 screw hole on the v3 pedals, and its goes around the pedal pipe on playseat challange. it has never come loose, and i have had the pedals for 2 years now.
Nice test and nice description Kireth👍👍👍
Thanks Momoz! Great review of the GT DD 👍
I kind find anything about how you set up a manual shifter for this seat, only thing stopping me from buying.
Is the part the steering wheel mounts to height adjustable?
Kind of, by adjusting how low the seat is
I've bought Fanatech bundle and saw what you mean about the pedals. But it was easily fixed by going to the local hardware store, and getting 2 pieces of metal for $2 that I put under the CSL pedals :) problem solved!.
I have a thrustmaster t stand with my logitech g920 pedals and works so well with zip ties
Zip ties OP?
@@Kireth work so well but I have some that are 5cm wide
@@evodesignsracing5925 that's no moon 👀
It places your shifter next to the wheel, so it’s pretty much useless.
how is the stability of the playseat combined with the csl elite? Looking to get the 8(nm) version, but quite scared it will rip the playseat apart.
I found one on ebay that's quite good. doesnt sell em anymore tho
Great review. Thank you!
Thinking about buying one, but not sure about the size. I'm 92kg (202,8 pounds) and 188cm (6,2 feet) . Will I fit good in it?
By the way. Love the review 💪🏽
Yep should work Marc!
did it work marc im 192 and bit stressed about it being too small
Hi Kireth, great video about the review for the Playseat Challenge. I was thinking about getting a sim rig myself and planning to get the new Thrustmaster T248 for this. Would this Playseat Challenge rig fits the Thrustmaster T248? Appreciate your opinion and feedback on whether the combination.
As always, keep up the AWESOME video content. :D
Definitely think it would fit! I reckon you will have to clamp it though
Sounds epic, send some pics in the discord if you have them!
Do you feel the flex though while racing?
nice review. but more importantly nice wlal.
The wlal is the star of my new videos
I bought clips on amazon to hold tlcms. Work great.
What is the flaw that gets fixed?
Pedal deck 👍
Great insight! Basically playseats need to be molded 😅
Omg bro...you climb out through the side?😳
Only issue I have is my pedals wander left or right...definitely a comfortable rig for the money!
How do you climb out 😅
Mine is up against a wall on the right so I have to climb out. Then again, I have a Caterham so I’m used to it!
@@TonyWhitley close your eyes and its a Caterham sim 😅😅😅
I’ve had mine a similar time and fixed the issues with pedal deck - wooden plate fixed to it with T-LCM’s mounted and the plastic screws replaced with metal ones.
I think with those issues resolved it’s an awesome seat if you need the flexibility or price point. Looking forward to mounting my DD PRO on it 😃😃
Wow I want to see a DD Pro on a playseat, nimble setup!
#metoo
Which plastic screws?
cable tied my v3's to the not foot deck. no movement at all. Also Second hand from ebay.
Great video. 😄👍🏻
Thanks John!!
As I see it this rig is very good to me. I have Logitech G923 wheel and it seems that playseat be great for that wheel.
Nice!! Do you have any pics of your pedal floor? Honestly think it could be a gamechanger
