Not going to lie, I have never heard of this guy before and wasn’t expecting much out of a “French cooking guy” but surprisingly he seemed extremely competent in the shop! Major props and actually interested in checking this guy out! Never judge a book by its cover!
I am a fan of Alex's channel too. He is an engineer by training, not a chef, who became interested in cooking and started a youtube channel to chronicle his learning. Part of what makes his channel so interesting is the engineers approach he takes to learning and experimentation with cooking and food. As a bonus he's totally nuts, in the most delightful way.
he is kind of guy that when making videos about knife sharpening, makes a device which tells him if he is holding the knife under the correct angle. When making pasta he is using electric drill instead of a handle while making noodles, he made a website that is noodle food generator. Now he tried to make a mozzarella, sucked at it, then went to Italy to see how its done.
Alec what a fantastic video. But it makes me miss the old younger you, where you would do shorter, more casual videos and you'd always stop for a moment to show us what you had prepared for lunch and cooked it in the poor microwave. But, still wonderful and as always I will see you in your next video!
That could actually allow for a really, really cool Damascus pattern- sort of like a squared, grid-like Raindrop-ish pattern? Poke little pyramid holes in something, then squash it flat from the side?
i dont think that would entirely work like that, because poking holes in it and then squishing it flat from the side would just make a bunch of cold shuts, but if you hit it from the top with the pyramid spikes until they've bade a bunch of indents, and then ground the top off until it was flat, you could get a sort of concentric grid pattern.
what if they had two pyramid sides and then they were forge-welded back into each others pyramid faces? making the teeth meet in the middle sort of yin-yang to each other? would that make a pattern or just pound out too flat to see a pattern?
Seriously Alec, I've noticed you putting yourself down what your education is concerned at times. I'm a Dutch guy living in Paris these days.. Beyond your videos, beyond your projects and beyond everything else, the way you approach life, the way you approach everything you do and everybody you meet... We could use a whole lot more of that in this world. (Oh, and Alex... Now that you're back from Italy and back from the UK as well apparently, you don't know just how much I'm waiting for you to figure out how to make some decent mozzarella at home... Have you ever heard of "Pittsburgh rare"? Steelworkers in Pittsburgh, PA used to use the blast furnaces to sear their steaks. The inside of the blast furnace would be over 2,000 F meaning that even the outside would be hot enough that is was totally sterile. So they would toss a steak on the side of the furnace, let it sit for a couple seconds, then flip it over. The outside would be almost charred but the inside would be rare, hence the name Pittsburgh rare.
I'm going to comment on this. Not something I ever expect you to really read tho, but. BUT.. This was an interesting fusion of things I LOVE. Blacksmithing, and cooking. As always keep up the awesome work, and eat well man. Thank you for such awesome content as always, and I would absolutely LOVE to see a bit more food related things. Whether it's chef's knives, mallets, or even backyard cooking sets. Please never forget where you started from, and who you inspire.. Backyard smiths that want things practical, and will be used on a daily basis. I personally love camp cooking. I love cooking, and making things to cook on/with when I go camping. That truly brings me the greatest joy out of all the thing I've ever made. Friends, family, food, and the outdoors. You inspire me very much everyday. Thank you so very much.

That steak looked delicious.
So, not only can Alec do the splits but he speaks French. What hidden talent will be revealed next?
In the UK we have to learn french in school
Zack E don’t HAVE to. Not with the sqa at least
@@TheGoldenTNT I had to do Spanish, I learnt French too as an option.
The next hidden talent is that he can make knives
My face when you started speaking french: -(*0*)- #frenchcanadianftw
could be nice a Québec flag on the back ground
Aweille viarge!
French speakers REPRESENT!
Heh.... I already follow Alex! His series on how to sharpen knives and techniques for chopping onions super fast were great!
Steve Whipp you should watch burrfection on RUclips, he's got some great knife sharpening videos...
2 of the best creators on youtube together I love watching you guys and this is the best collab I could have imagined thank you and have a good day!
It needs to be Damascus. It needs to be much bigger. It needs to be a copy of a medieval weaponized kitchen utensil. It needs it's own T-shirt.
I know this old tony is lurking.. show yourself
Make a Damascus wood chisel set or a Damascus golf driver
Two of my favorite channels, and two of my favorite guys collabing together, and both making something awesome.
Looking forward for more collaborations guys! Great content, keep doing great videos! (Are we going to see Alec cooking something on that furnace?)
Merci beaucoup! 😎
if I see one more fucking French comment
What sorta Russian, British, Spanish, Mexican language you be speaking
@@beshoy9150 calme toi ptit con
He lived in France for some time.
You're a great example of what they could be if they would give the effort.
Now to wait for Alex's "new" pasta machine video to come out...
Hot damn, your French is actually really good Alec!
Gosh Alec, you've got a great French accent! And grateful to be part of that 4% of your bilingual viewers! :p
Salutation from Québec! Darn your french is perfect Alec, Alex, love your accent in English!
Good for brazing...
Hooo, it only goes from great to even super, nice cooking guys!
BTW, looking at him as soon you guys are done!
Son francais est juste insane
ça m'a étonné aussi !
hey im from Quebec too :)
coolest video you've posted in awhile. Look forward to seeing Alex's version on his channel.
Rewatching this video after watching Alex’s video. I probably won’t ever do anything with metals or cooking but i’m persuaded by you guys with every video i watch
Sterile =/= Clean
That Alex is making the rounds. I just saw him on "This Old Tony" last night. I might refer to him as the French Evan and Katelyn. ;-)
This "cross pollination" of RUclipsrs might be a reaction to the new rules for monetizing videos.
Okay for those that saw the "This Old Tony" video I think we all saw this coming but still this is AMAZING! Although I expected a knife build but a hammer is even cooler.
Superbe collaboration... Your French is perfect Alec congratulations

sorry I don’t speak croissant
Peu de français on un niveau d'anglais qui égale son niveau de français, and I really think a lot of them are gathered in the 3 percent of French viewers of alec's community
Well done - not the steak, but the video. I like all the cooperation which is going on.
I like that you and Alex worked together. He will remember the sweat equity he put into the ultimate meat tenderizer.
Merci beaucoup!! 🙏🙏
