  • The Wimbledon 2024 ladies' draw is even more wide-open after day seven with second seed Coco Gauff falling to compatriot Emma Navarro. Gauff was frazzled by Navarro's sublime playing and repeatedly asked her coaching box for answers to no avail. Madison Keys had a disappointing end to her tournament after retiring during her fourth-round match vs Jasmine Paolini after injuring her left leg. Qualifier Lulu Sun continues her Cinderella run after knocking down Emma Raducanu on Centre Court.

    8:35 - Keys' injury sends Paolini to QF
    11:10 - Lulu Sun shocks Raducanu

    Feel so bad for Madison Keys. Hoping she has a speedy recovery. I thought it nice how Paolini showed concern for Keys. I wanted Coco to win but gotta give Emma props for taking care of business and getting the job done. Maybe next time.

    Navarro played well, but Sabalenka or even Światek would not allow her to take the initiative. The game is enough for Coco . Coco has a terrible forehand. Emma kept hitting this side. Now every top player will do it. Cocos' Top 20 win-loss in last three years: 2024: 3-7.
    11th on the list, first Swiatek 17:3. Second Sabalenka 10:4. Terrible statistics.

      Swiatek just allowed Putinseva to 'take the initiative' and Navarro is 1-1 vs Sabalenka
      🤣

      @lschabol 26 дней назад

      @@WickedRichie Putintseva is currently a better player than Navaro, great form. We probably watched different matches or you just watched livscore numbers. Putintseva played on the counterattack and waited for Swiatek's mistake and she won the match. Swiatek threw many balls into the outfield. De ja vu match last year against Svitolina. Today Putintseva was swept off the court, she played exactly like that, only Ostapenko didn't make so many mistakes. (:

    Part of this could be too much reliance on the box. Total concentration is needed when you’re a set and a break down. Looking up and expecting your team to solve the problem is distracting and a waste of time.

    Emma Navarro is heading to Top 10 & will stay there for a very, very long time. She's a killer, a meantlity-monster, has nerves of stone & definitely has ice in her veins. I mean wiping the floor with Osaka & Coco is a statement!. I 1st noticed her 2yrs ago & knew straight on she wld make big ripples. That gal can play.

    The Emma Navarro hype will of course go up. But I am going to wait and see. Coco crumbled under pressure as the favorite. Maybe people are expecting too much from Coco.

    Players have figured out Coco. She can't hit 5 forehands in, in a row. For the lower ranked players, she can still win, but the top players will beat her. Looking at her loses this year, it's all people she beat easily the last time they met or dominates her head to head. Unfortunately she has the yips with her forehand and serve, very hard to cure. As for Madison, very devastating, she had the fastest forehand for all of Wimbledon, including men. I really thought it was her year. Here comes the Sun, doo-doo-doo-doo.

    • @charlesfaure1189
      @charlesfaure1189 27 дней назад

      It isn't the yips. There are fundamental technical flaws in her game, the result of poor coaching in her youth.

      @@charlesfaure1189 No. She knows what she's doing wrong, but can't correct it. Like her serve in a close match. It's performance anxiety. This came from an announcer.

    First Im a huge COCO fan. I’m going to say what no one else is saying. It’s ALL mental for Coco. She cannot handle the pressure. The reason why her serve falters, her FH hand missed hits because she can’t handle the pressure. She couldn’t center herself, calm down and play her game. Thats what the women in the locker room are seeing. Look up how many times she breaks -and immediately is broken back. She should see a sports psychologist or maybe have her Dad back in the box. I love COCO !!!! As soon as Inga lost , I knew Coco wouldn’t win.

    • @BuffyNoir140
      @BuffyNoir140 27 дней назад +2

      She totally fell apart. Emma didn't have to much but play her game. Coco doesn't have the mental maturity to handle pressure. She couldn't get her serves in , bad shot making. She was a wreck out there it should badly.

    Very sad for coco. Was not expecting this loss from my favorite player on the wta side. These players always use operation break down the gauff forehand and she’s very vulnerable to hard hitters on the grass because they don’t give her much time to get her swing in. Navarro can go all the way now she just has Elena in her way.

    My suggestion for Gauff is to get off the internet, stop reading the comments, and get a mental coach. Not capitalizing on the opening up of her side of the draw was a huge missed opportunity. She expected the match to land in her lap. You have to take it. As Serena said, a player beats you and then gets annihilated in the next round. That’s precisely what happened here. Guaff's mental game deflated her so much that she couldn’t adjust, which is not a good sign. I am a fan, but girl, play like you’re number 2 in the world. Also, stop getting too comfortable in press conferences and reveal your tactics. Learn about the game. Watching Serena for over 20 years, the tour was way deeper-Venus, Justine, Maria, Monica, Jennifer, Steffi, Martina, and so many more. And she was super. Learn something and play like you’re the number 2 player in the world.

    i think it's time for Coco to get rid of Brad Gilbert. He doesn't seem to be doing all that much for her and gets way too much credit for her success last year (added to the team a few weeks right before the big run). I think her frustration reflected the fact that he's not really been that helpful for her, and is probably a little annoying to her.

    • @Valxxvi
      @Valxxvi 27 дней назад

      You know what after seeing her self destruct today i can 100% agree with you. And how angry and frustrated she got it made me realize their relationship maybe coming to an end soon. I’ve never seen her that emotionally in distress before she usually can problem solve. But she was out there today and just looked so lost and upset.

    Maddie Vs Jasmine what a match. So sad to see Maddie couldn’t continue😢, but I have a lot of time for Jasmine (love the way she play the game with such a beautiful smiles )Emma Vs LuLu ( Radaucanu played well but Sun played like she had won Wimbledon a multiple times ) need to look out for this in the future. Coco Vs Navarro ( CoCo didn’t play anyone 1/2 decent till now and Navarro hurt her ) Honestly the biggest mistakes was allowing CoCo to turn Pro such a young age, that pressure of succeeding Serena and pressure of expectations seems to really hurt her )

    I really wonder what happened at the AO . Coco has lost so much confidence in herself when up against certain players. She just beat Emma so even if she lost, she should not have crumbled like this. I also think Gilbert needs to go and I’d said this before this match. I’m tired of her having to win ugly. Let’s believe in ourself again like we did when we were the underdog and stop gifting matches.

Everybody plays great when it's going their way ! But without phony calls Coco couldn't ride that momentum ! Can Coco play great ? Yea at times but big part of her resume' inferior opponents and phony calls Yesterday neither was there for her This also may be effect gambling might be effecting outcomes!

    Thanks again! It was too bad Ben got Sinner so early. But he did push Sinner and like you that is what counts. Ben will get there! He has what it takes. Just give him more time. He has to get more experience playing with the big boys. The more he loses, the better he will get. That is how Novak got better and better. He has to figure out how to beat number 1 and 2. Ben is still figuring things out and building his game and tools. And playing smarter. He has the drive and wants it. You can just feel it. Can you tell I am a huge Ben Shelton fan! 😂😂 I just love his energy when he plays. He is a good kid! I am still waiting on Coco to get a coach who is going to help her with her weapons and not the win ugly crap. She needs someone who can assist her with consistency and performance and to stop stating she doesn't need to work on her forehand. No forehand. I am counting on Coco and Co to come to conclusions about her future if she doesn't get the forehand together. If she doesn't defend her us open I think she may lose number 2 ranking because of the point cushion from her win last. Not sure. But I am praying for my girl! She is so talented! 🫥😔
