That scene still gives me chills all these years later. It's just a perfect illustration of what makes Light such a compelling character. He's indisputably the villain of the story, but he still manages to make you want to see him succeed just so you can get more scenes like that.

That was one of the best anime I have ever seen, with a beautiful, sad ending, humour at the right places, lovable, strange and interesting characters.... just perfect.

I want more protagonists like Light, and maybe L would make a good protagonist too. They don't even have to be rivals or even in the same manga/anime. I just want more characters that aren't complete wusses like most shounen protagonists. (Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn was painful to watch/read for the first HALF or more of it).
I feel this. The whiny protagonist thing is something that's become really annoying with modern anime, it's what drove me to watch more niche shows like 'The Saga of Tanya the Evil' and 'So I'm a Spider, So What?'
