Sovereign of the Seas Was my first cruise, a 4 night taster and that was us hooked for life!
My favorite RCBlog topics are those that cover the history of the industry! This video was greatly informative and interesting! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I will miss Sovereign of the Seas. I sailed on her Inaugural sailing and a couple times after. I have good memories of her.
I fell in love with cruising on the Song of Norway back in 1978 on our honeymoon, We were on the last cruise before she was cut in half and had an additional section added, Ten years later we sailed on the inaugural year of the Sovereign of the Seas,
I loved the Empress of the Seas! She was a fun little ship! 😢
Loved the Empress!
Sailed on Majesty of the Seas twice - great ship!
It would be nice if RC and Celebrity started trending towards holding on to smaller/older ships and using them for different itineraries to supplement the options lost by the sale of Azamara
My first cruise was in 2005 on Sovereign of the Seas. Sad to see it was scrapped. But, it was time.
I miss majesty of the seas. That was my first royal Caribbean ship i went on. Had great memories. Its nice to know its still in operation 😇😂
Viking Serenade was the first ship I worked on in 1996. I even did a refit in Portland, Oregon.
Definitely like to see the old Sovereign of the Seas return. Traveled on her during her April 1996 Easter cruise and my wife and I loved her. We were newly married back then.
My first cruise was on the Song of Norway back in 1983. That's where I fell in love with cruising! ♥️
Ours too.... Our honeymoon on Song of Norway 1983❤
My very first cruise was on The Majesty, and that's where I got the cruise bug. The following year, we honeymooned on the Monarch. I think I'd bring back the Majesty. Love your videos! Keep up the great work!!
Im going to miss Empress of the seas
It was my first cruise as a kid in 2001
Back in the day it was called Nordic
Empress
Im from Puerto Rico so I took it here and sailed to the eastern and southern caribbean
It was so beatiful ship
I wish RC would use the smaller ships for ports that don't support the mega ships instead of going to the same islands. It would also be nice if they did overnight stops to allow people to be able to see/do more. Not everyone wants to go on a mega ship. I find that you get better more personalized service on the smaller ships. The Radiance Class ships are beautiful ships. I would hate to see them scrapped. I have been on Grandeur of the Seas more than any other ship. It was the last ship we sailed on in 2020. We cheered when we found out it was staying in the fleet.
You are in the minority. Veteran cruisers (such as yourself & those over 50) grew up with smaller ships. To attract the future cruise ships have to offer more bang -include that with smaller ships now lose money for the
Company & smaller ships in the future will belong to more specialized lines thus cost more .
I am going on Grandeur of the Seas on February and 2 days later, the Carnival Celebration. I was nervous of the Grandeur, since it's an older ship and very small, but I have read pretty good comments on people that has recently saild on it.
My first cruse was in Monarch of the Seas a while ago, then with RC I have done the Allure, Freedom, Navigator, Anthem. Wonder how it feels to go back to a smaller ship
yes the radiance class ships are so beautiful. the radiance was my first cruise and it was great! the ship was the perfect size
I’ve been on 13 cruises, but Song of America was the best. Look, they were all good and special in their own way, but somehow it was on the Song of America that forever sold me on cruises.
Loved the majesty. I thought I wouldn't like the empress because it was so small but I loved it! Never used a public rest room because my room was always so close by.😊
My first cruise was on the Monarch of the Seas. We fell in love with cruising.
That was my first too. I recall thinking how huge it looked at the pier !
Mine too back in 1975 from Miami.
I miss Empress a lot I had the pleasure to sail twice on Empress once while she was getting ready to go to Cuba. Then a second time to Cuba. My parents sailed on Empress in 93 when she was the Nordic Empress. I'll also miss Sovereign even though it wasn't my favorite ship class it was sad to see her scrapped as that was my first RCL cruise. But I still have a casino chip from Sovereign. That being said I am glad it looks like the Vision class will be sticking around a little longer. They are nice ships and no doubt Empress had some influence in those ship designs. One thing I like about the older ships was how they had the Windjammer on the front of the ship instead of aft... They also focused more on oceanview and cruising instead of having every amenity under the sun something I feel that has gotten lost with some of the newer ships...
My wife and I sailed on the Viking Serenade for our honeymoon in 1992. We are finally returning to Royal Caribbean in 2022 to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
We only cruise Royal Caribbean. We love the smaller ships.
My very first cruise on The Monarch of the Seas in a grand suite, in 1998. And I have never looked back! Sad to see her go, but excited to sail on the new ships and make new memories!
Empress of the Seas/ Nordic Empress was the first Royal Caribbean ship I sailed on in 2001.
SONG OF NORWAY was my first Royal Caribbean cruise 50 years ago this coming month ! Hope I cruise with you Matt during the next 50 years
Plan on it!
@@RoyalCaribbeanBlog if I book a cruise next week while I am on Symphony of The Seas at the future Cruise desk, can I still join your group next July or do I need to initiate the cruise through a particular travel agent? I have never done a group cruise before
Before the Song of Norway was an option , who remembers Flavia, Southward, Seaward and Starward? Thank goodness Royal Caribbean came along and set up shop in Miami
My first cruise was on the Nordic Empress. Did some research and the best i can tell, it's now operated by Candella.
I was on Song of Norway way way way back in the begining! Very memorable with lots of things that are no longer around.
Celebrity "Horizon" and Royal Caribbean "Sovereign of the Seas."
Many memories of our families on them in 1989 and in 1991.
My first Royal Caribbean cruise was on Monarch. I remember loving it. But it was a long time ago.
I love your channel. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Majesty of the seas was our first cruise. Been on her twice. Beautiful ship.
My first two cruises were on Nordic Empress. Loved that little ship. Now I love the Radiance class of ships rather than these huge ones.
I have been on many ships with RCL but by far my favorite was Monarch of the Seas. Just the right size, quaint and it had an intimate feel. Buty, progress and now I have enjoyed many others and the Odyssey stands out pretty well.
First comment!!! And I can’t wait to take my first cruise! Your videos are really helpful!
I miss Empress! ⚓️ 👑
That shot of two Oasis class ships at Coco Cay... it was busy enough when we were there with just one ship!
First Cruise 1984 on Sun Viking. It's picture is now my screen's background. Last I heard, it is a gambling ship in China!
Great memories ...Sun Viking..was trying to remember her name. Love Boat was still running on tv
Song of America… first cruise I ever took my husband on
Nordic Prince, my first cruise in 1986 27 cruises ago🥰🥰🥰🥰
Majesty of the Seas. Our first 2 cruises. Loved it. Not too big
My first cruise was on Celebrity Solstice out of Seattle, but as we were standing on the top deck you could look down on Rhapsody of the Seas. It looked so tiny in comparison!! In some ways, I wished I would have sailed on her, but I also think that I might have gotten the wrong impression being on an older ship, and it may have swayed my thinking about cruising.
I've only been one 1 cruise. It was the Nordic Prince 7 nights New York/Bermuda. Service was personal and impeccable.
My parents first cruised on Majesty of the Seas in 1993. I got to cruise Majesty in 2016. It was a nice ship.
I would bring back the Song of Norway. First ship I ever sailed on
and have been hooked on Cruising ever sense.
I'd like to see sovereign of the seas because it was my first royal carribean cruise ship I was on and I don't want to lose the Grandure of the seas because I had a great time on her
Grandeur was my first cruise ship and I'd hate to see her go.
We spent '92,'93,'94 Christmas on the Monarch, Majesty, Sun Viking. They were wonderful and have many happy memories on these our first cruises. Our daughter was five and I would have to pry her away from the kid's club. Formal nights were lovely and our child ordered escargot and loved it…go figure. I was heartbroken to hear of their demise.
Legend of the seas!!!
Our first cruise was on the Song of America in 1996. We thought it was huge!
I sailed on song of america when it was chartered from LOUS cruises ( now celestyal) as thomson destiny before it went back to louis / cylestyal cruises! one of my fave ship to sail on and glad she is still going strong as sadly all the other ships i sailed on with thomson (now marella cruises) have either been scrapped or waiting to be scrapped ( marella dream and celebration) and they now have the bigger ships from celebrity and royal ....!
We sailed on Majesty in mid 2019. We were supposed to go to Cuba, but the ship wasn't able to go. We were planning on an Empress sailing in 2020, but...
First cruise was on majesty and I do and don't miss it. It got me into cruising but hate it because of the person I was with. I even still have a casino chip from majesty that I will see if the casino will honor.
Cruising in December on the Odyssey. Will we be wearing a band for contact tracking?
My first cruise was on the Viking Serenade .. I feel old
RC had the older ships on a scheduled scrap or sell, just had to do it earlier bc of covid. Heck....saw RC was a sponsor of a recent hockey game.
I sailed on Empress during Christmas 2018, just 2 weeks before Trump shut down travel to Cuba. Though, I'm thankful for the experience, it was pretty boring on the ship. Being a smaller ship, there isn't a lot to do. Sure, you have the usual stuff like the theater, pool, casino, spa, and windjammer. However, towards the end of the week long cruise, I often found myself aimlessly wandering around the ship. When you've been on the larger boats, the smaller ones just don't compare.
You probably answer this before but im a new subscriber. When is the beat time (cheapest) to buy a cruise trip, closest or farthest from the date?
Definitely as far in advance as you can
My one regret with cruising is not being able to cruise around Cuba. I hope someday they bring that back
Majesty was my first RC
So sad. We were booked on Empress in May 2020 for their special Bermuda itinerary and were so looking forward to the small ship. Obviously it got cancelled due to COVID. I doubt we’ll ever see that itinerary from Royal again.
Some of those photos from the lounge areas of the old ships, all I can do is smell the cigarette smoke LOL
I hate even the idea of the huge cruise ships. Give me the smaller ones every time.
It would be cool if there was a cruise ship museum/ floating hotels for the old ships. It would be neat to tour the old ships! It would also be neat if the old small ships could be cruising in smaller markets...I almost did a Royal cruise on the St Lawrence River a couple years ago. The big ships can't go upstream as far.
The biggest issue with floating hotels is upkeep and maintenance is awful. Water is so corrosive and without a lot of money for upkeep, ships quickly deteriorate. But I love the idea
@@RoyalCaribbeanBlog could they do like a dry dock and build a structure to support it? I just love boats in general and love checking them out. I don't always need to go on a 7 day cruise LOL
Empress of seas is now in india..and operating with full profits..and even with advance bookings
I Like The Smaller Ships On RCCL Rather Than The Big Ones That They Are Building Now. Brilliance Of The Seas Is My Favorite and I Really Hope That Royal Will Realize Not Everyone Wants The Big Ship Environment. I Enjoyed Sovereign, Monarch, Enchantment, Majesty, and Yes Empress.
Smaller ships don’t earn enough profit . Future will be smaller ships for specialized lines which will cost more for passengers.
@@hockjeyinveins I Am Sure Larger Ships Earn More Profit Per Customer But The Big Cruise Lines Were Built On Smaller Ships For Years So They Do Earn Profit and Some People Prefer Them. All Good and Will Be What It Is I Guess. Thanks.
Was on the Legend and Rhapsody lived them both.
The Pullmantur Monarch is my favourite ship in history, I like the pullmantur version more because the livery is nice but the rcl livery is just text
We've been on Majesty 6 times. We liked it for the simplicity and cost factor at the times we went. We've been on bigger ships as well, just never past the Voyager class size and have no real desire to go on any mega ones, been on Adventure 3 times now. We just enjoyed the smaller and mid sized ones for some reason. Our most recent cruise before all the Rona stuff was a shorter 5 night on Empress in October of 2019 and we were kinda apprehensive about the size prior to going but ended up really enjoying that small ship as well. Sad to see them both gone from the RC fleet. We find the best in every cruise we go on despite not being able to afford or care about suites, the extra cost restaurants, and stuff but we have a great time anyway. It is what you make of it.
I'm glad you like the smaller ships, but how do you know you don't like the bigger ones, if you have not try it?? I have done Monarch, Allure, Freedom, Anthem and Navigator. I have enjoyed all of them, each with pros and cons, but I have never had a bad 🛳 cruise
I have gone to Cordelia cruises
First cruise was the Splendor😢😢 .
First cruise was on Majesty! Monarch was S Caribbean cruise ship! I thought Majesty was fantastic! Sure tiny compared to ships now!
Most of my cruises have been out of Baltimore, so we sailed the Grandeur OTS the most often. Now Enchantment is going to Baltimore, so we will probably see her.
We had a cruise scheduled on Majesty when it was sold, so that was obviously scuttled.
Royal Caribbean had cash...mine for almost 2 yrs interest free while they made interest on my money
I went on Empress right before Covid restricted Travel. About 2 weeks before actually. And it was the worse ship I have been on with Royal. Don't get me wrong, the travel was great. I got to go to Key West on it, but not Cuba. The problem was the ship was not well maintained. Every window was so caked with salt, you couldn't look outside very well. The handrails all over the ship weren't properly attached to the walls. I'm disabled and when I could literally shake them up and down around a foot. Heck, it was bad in front of guest services. That's not good at all. The Theater chairs were almost all falling apart. And more. I kind of felt bad for the ship
Empress of the Seas a great smaller ship!!!
The CEO of Cordelia Cruises is a former Royal Caribbean executive.
Is that right? I was not aware
I love Vision class and don't Oasis class ! Sue me !
Miss Makesty! Hate large ships
3rd comment. #loyaltoroyal unless I'm being forced to go on MSC 😭
Don’t sell any of them. We like them all. Hold onto the grandeur of the seas and the Rhapsody of the seas.
Grandeur of the seas is our favorite ship.
@@susanhlavaty9500 That was our very first cruise.
Loved my Majesty otS sailing but was still a bit of a letdown when compared to Oasis otS that I had sailed on earlier that year. So yes there is a time for ships to move on to second and third lives.
RCI still needs a modern ship that can get into Tampa and Baltimore [Not a Vision class ship].
One reason why ports such Galveston are building new terminals to accommodate Oasis class . Only solution I can see is Royal partnering with those cities to build new terminals . Based on ridership don’t see that happening soon -but this is why it IS happening in Texas . Only one port serving 29 million ? You do the math .
What happend to tropicale of the seas????
Firstly, the narrator needs voice training , his voice frequency grates on my nerves a bit like Grahame Norton on steroids ... However My point is that selling off the cruise ship fleet because they are no longer viable for whatever reasons is fundamentaly disgraceful. The situation in Afghanistan could have made use of all the fleet of scrapped ships as floating accomodation for hundreds of thousands of displaced people . There are miles of coastline around the UK , Europe in which to immediately station every redundant ship. Each ship has hospital facilities ready for immediate use . Any further scrapping should be stopped and ships requisitioned for humanitarian reasons .
Nothing useful all brbrbr
