- This is what happens when a mad engineer decides to put the engine and running gear from a Supercharged V8 Jaguar XJR into the body of a 1966 Mk2 Jaguar. This baddass crazy machine not only looks mean but the noise it makes is simply incredible ! A huge thanks to Mark and his brother Simon for inviting me over to drive the car. What a complete hoot we had !

The error over the Mk2/S type is not Peters fault. We have always known it as a Mk2 S-Type & have just called it ‘The Mk2’ which is what we told Peter. Just remember it’s a car intended to be a bit of fun, rather than an example of a true classic.
evomark4077 All fully appreciated and understood...just that when you get a bunch of car nuts together, intense detail takes over! Happy driving...my 1969 XJ6 returns from an unplanned 5 months at Jaguar Land Rover Heritage maybe next week...after a big mechanical overhaul, it should be better than it ever has been..I hope!! Safe driving! 😀😀😀
Agreed, but still ok to point out that it is an S-type. We S-type owners (1965 3.4S here) need the attention we can get for our cars as we are always in the shadow of the more popular Mk2 :-) So why not change the title and description of the video to say S-type and not Mk2? Cool and interesting car and video!
@@Aquariuz60 Because MK2 will et more views - simples.
you say it yourself the S type gets less attention.
I wouldn't bother mind you because a grown man acting like a teenager (20seconds in) when presenting and driving the car really doesn't help this video. Nor does the mat black paint and wheel arches. Just bad taste and too much money here.
The S type was a different car longer and handled way better than the MK2 as they had coil spring suspension which was fully independent lifted from the E type in truth the criminal fraternity preferred the S type over the Mk2
Geez. Can't we just have some fun here for a sec? I think painting Joker's face on the front and writing "Why so serious?" on the back might have prevented some of this... ;)
The world is a better place for having cars like this in it.
Yep 👍
Winning comment there fella,
Really cannot beat the charm of a gangsta old ride.
EVs are going to kill this off in a few decades :(
@@BlatentlyFakeName possibly, but not definitely
Cant say better than that = I only add my thumb up !!👍🏅☮✌⚘😎🐞
As my British Uncle would have said "Oh my giddy Aunt!!" "That's proper!", and as a Canadian who loves cars, I would have to agree, what a brilliant yet utterly insane thing!! I'm so happy that this even exists, and get-away men the World over must be drooling at the thought of grabbing the wheel, pinning the Loud pedal and holding on!! Damn, I really wish I was a baddie and could get away with owning something as in your face as this Jag!!
It's one of the best looking car I've seen in my life. The engine sound is crazy too.
The guy who constructed the XJR - 'S' type did a build series over about 25 videos & posted it all on RUclips. His name is Mick Hunt & the build started about 6 years ago. It was called the Draguar..! IIRC., it had a bonnet mascot 'leaper' made from small pieces of scrap metal! I wondered what had happened to it. Nice to see it still on the road & being appreciated! (BTW to the haters, that 'S' type started as an empty shell saved from the crusher).
I always wondered what happened to this car after seeing his build videos. I loved the way he created this!
Being from the US, I've never seen an Mk2 before and that has to be one of the most beautiful car designs I've ever seen! Wow!!!!
Cool huh 👍
Had a 1964 Jag sedan in the mid'70s just for the joy (uh, experience) of rebuilding the 3.4. My brother-in-law refinished the walnut so I wouldn't get my greasy mechanic's hands all over it, while I took on the cylinder head, welding out the valve inserts and boxing in my home oven to heat the head while cooling the new inserts in dry-ice. By the time I had the head back together and the valves properly shimed a racing buddy made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and the rest of the rebuild was done several states away in Virginia. I never saw the finished car, but my love for Jaguars (looking at them, not rebuilding them!) has lasted ever since.
Nice car, but glad it isn't in my garage.
Im American, so not super familiar with all the jaguar models especially older ones but this is easily one of the coolest cars I’ve seen. I love it.
Canada here...as a Scottish, UK raised....crx driving fella...this is the shit...you'll never find those body lines...nice...one love
The smile that comes across your face every time you push your right foot down makes this video!! What a car; credit to the initial builder for coming up with the idea and more credit to those Brothers for finishing it off!
The reaction every time the throttle is punched says it all right there!
Absolutely beautiful! The color and trim choice is spot on!
My dad had a mark 2 when he n my mom got married in 62 he put a 327 Chevy in it it was the fastest car in town no one back then could beat him. My dad put a Buick grand national engine in a triump tr7 and Monet Carlo ss differential and turbo 350 transmission with newly upholstery 27 yrs ago and one of my brothers still have the car. Man is it still a looker.i like that mark 2 also. Wow just awesome. Peace
I have a 1969 ford mustang v-8 302 cu.in w/a ford t-bird AOD a/t. Bolted onto factory motor mounts. Awesome jaguar mk1 salon. PLEASE don't hesitate to build your own personal hot rod.
Mad Max meets the Sweeney! What a motor! 😍
YES! That is the best possible description for this thing haha
@@Tom.J.O yes indeed! and we've not had any Dinner either.
@@lotusjim *".... We're the Sweeney son and we...."*
In the spirit of American Hot Rod/OutLaw/Rat Rod/Resto Mod/AND Lowriders car culture. You chaps are doing it proper! Cheers from Chicago
Sounds and drives brutal as far as I can see, the shell really needs some love and sanding for the rough spots. If the quarter panels would be expanded so the wheels would fit in, after a finishing touch it would be perfect!
“You have to hold on” says it all!
Now that's a car, wonderful! Thanks for posting this, in an era where the market is increasingly dominated by entirely anodyne and forgettable (if sensible and competent) crossovers videos like this remind us why so many of us love cars.
It was such fun 👍
I think the car looks amazing now and so unique but that sound from the exhaust is just something else heavenly. Makes you want to do a bank robbery just to use the car to get away 👌👌. Thanks to the owner and his brother for letting us see this car 👍
Cheers Gareth 👍
I like how you make driving these cars fun, which is exactly what they are for.
Without any doubt...the most beautiful car I have ever seen. Reminds me of another English Legend...The Spitfire! That Green and Black is truly badass looking in a very military way, and that sound WoW! A Spitfire on wheels! Thanks for sharing this one. Respect.
That gnarly grille looks so badass! "You wanna fight eh, matey!!".
It tickled me no end seeing your chase car just give up entirely trying to keep up!
Well worth waiting for. Grinning from ear to ear. Thanks Mark and Simon and to you Ped for bringing to us. Top!
Bonkers? This car is fantastic! The sound matches the looks, just spot on!
Glad you're enjoying my creation. The body add on's we're only supposed to be temporary but I needed to let it go before I refined the finish.
Too bad because it really doesn’t look finished. Rather shabby looking wheel flares. Nonetheless when behind the wheel, looks just don’t matter.👍😎
My god i just LOVE the spirit of this car!
Well known car in Jag circles. Absolutely bonkers! It's an S-Type though. Remember The Sweeney!!?
I know that now. The Interweb has spoken 😂
A car is like a house if you own it you can do whatever you feel like. You are allways going to have the criticism, never forget you are the one with the smile on your face. 😎
You are spot on with that remark Sean, I'm into classic cars and get fed up with folk thinking they should be as they came out the factory: if that's your bag fine, but even in the day folk made changes so I am with you if you enjoy it, want it and it's yours then good on you (tu)
It depends. What if somebody took a Bugatti Royal and stuffed in a big block with a GMC blower on it
the whole point behind Classics is that "they dont make 'em like that any more". THAT is a large part of the attraction. Changing them so that they are more comfortable to "live with" is acceptable (if you keep the original parts) but pimping is akin to going to church in a bikini. I'm sure the bikini wearer would argue their right to wear it but.......................it's just wrong. Sorry.
@@mpetersen6 i wouldnt like it but if it puts a smile on ur face when u hit the gas does it really matter like id buy an rx-7 and put a 2jz supra engine in it
Agree with you on the car thing, but in the u.k. you most definitely can't do whatever you feel like to a house.
I know a couple of people that have fell foul of planning laws.
The stock engine in the Jag Mk II was either a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 straight six. Never had a 3 litre. That body is not a Mk II but from the S-Type which had the extended boot.
Stewart, I wrote the same thing about the engines, a few minutes ago, before I read your post and I thought it was self evident, that it was not a Mk2 but an 'S' type, so didn't bother saying it, so credit to you for getting in first.
@@RichardASK I owned a few MkIIs, an S-Type and a 420 and that is the only reason I know the difference!
That's correct the rear light units were different to the mk2 on the s type more like the mk10/420g
To paraphrase the Simpsons when Homer put tweed patches on a leather jacket instead of the opposite. Marge; "Homer you've ruined a perfectly good Jaguar".
Homer; "No Marge I've ruined two perfectly good Jaguars" 😂
Just love this kind of V8 badassery.
A leaping Jaguar skeleton carved out of Sterling Silver would be in keeping...
👍
I think this is the best jag I have ever seen, amazing
WOW! 😂😂 I jusr found this by chance! For quite a long time I pondered whether to turn my own '66 S-Type into a thing like that "Beast" or rather not. ... Yet, I never dared 'cause it might turn out to become an act of sacrilege 😮 ... But NOW I'm convinced!! ... I'LL DO IT!!! 😅 ... Thanx a lot and have a lot of fun with that Bad Boy! (Juergen, Germany)
My standard S type went pretty well, with all the work on this one it must be insane, The S is so good looking WELL DONE 👍 😎
Absolutely love it, growing up in the 70s and 80s my Dad had many British Cars and was always fun to drive with him. My first car was a 1967 Triumph Spitfire loved that little car. Love your work thanks for the memories.
My pleasure 👍
We had an early 1907s XJ with a Chevy V8 and El Torino transmission: best of both worlds. Wish I had the thing now.
I had the pleasure of working for a company that restored Mk2 Jags and XK120's when I was 18. The brakes were awful and the steering was ship like compared to the Mk1 XR2 I owned at the time. But it was beautiful in old English white and the red leather smell was distinct and sublime.
The truck from Duel came back as a Jag 😆. Absolutely awesome... grinning from ear to ear just watching the video and listening to that engine. That is a PROPER beast! Good skills and a massive standing ovation to everyone involved in it's creation...😎
LOL 😂
What a film.Just google it and the truck that was used is told.
Well it reminds me John Steed's Jaguar XJC V12 5L ,racing green,🤔
Absolutely awesome 😎👍
Funny I was saying the same thing as your brother when I first saw the car… “ fell in love with it”
Hands down, sweetest Jag I have ever seen.
ugliest
I don’t want to be picky, but strictly speaking this magnificent beast started life as an S-Type, which was a Mark 2 derivative - it’s got a Mark 10 style rear, which is quite different to a Mark 2.
To me it looked like an S type rear.which replaced the mark 10
That's so funny. I was looking at the side profile and thought it looked a tad "odd". It didn't look like a genuine Mk2 Jag. Something was wrong with it.
The rear end is too long for a Mk2. Mk2 boots are much shorter and slope down quite quickly. As for the interior. It is far, far to modern. Definitely NOT a Mk2. Though from the windscreen forwards, it does look like a Mk2.
So all in all, it seems to be a "cut-and-shut" car. Bit of a bastard, so to speak. Definitely not a true Mk2.
Still. It looks good and sounds scary :-))...
That’s for the feedback. We got this heads up about 3 hours after we filmed the video 😬
@@PetrolPed I fear I've done the same thing 🤦♂️. For future reference S type has the longer bonnet, recessed head lights rather than pronounced ones and a few other bits like the suspension is more complex than a mk2
I did 110k miles in my XJR. Great car. Bought it for £15k as a 40k mile car, took it up to 150k miles, put over £25k of fuel in it on the way! Wonderful.
Awesome 👏
Still have mine with almost 200k miles / 320k KM's
looks and Sounds like a lot of FUN !
Brilliant just brilliant, what more can I say.
Your reactions are priceless! Perfect imperfection with great sound.
I love the car and I admire your innovation and tenacity, HOWEVER, I'll tell you what happens when you do this based on a lifetime of tinkering, you get something that cost a lot of money that's worth half, at most, of what you spent, you'll take a hit, have a row with your partner, and then do it again!
Not true if its a good build.
Not many people want a classic car with a classic engine and suspension nowadays.
But a classic car with a modern engine and running gear sells..
Yeah if you have paid for all the work to be done by others it's expensive but the best builds are done by the owners themselves for sod all.
To the one's who do it -- money isn't the main objective is it. And thank God it isn't or we wouldn't see cars like this. In other words the pluses far far outweigh the negatives.
My sixteen year-old self would have loved this!
It's not so much my taste these days, but I appreciate the technical achievement and, well, it's not my car, so as long as the owner gets a kick out of it, then it's a cool thing!
Indeed 👍
In 1970, a friend of mine, Bob Alexander, took a beautiful 1966 Mk2, red leather interior, and put a 327 V8 with a 3 spd auto, and it was a very nice ride, sadly when Bob sold it on, for $3000 US, I passed. Car was put out into Massachusetts cruel winters and met sad end.
Smiles per mile! “Very loud bridgework” 🤣
That was the funniest bit! 😂
OMG that’s just pure class. What a build 🔥🔥🔥
Best way to have a car , not show condition, that way your not scared to drive , anytime , great interview !
Wow, I was watching this build progress on RUclips then didn't see any updates for a while. Glad to get a better look at this beauty!
"Wot larks!" A proper rat rod, respect!
Not a jag person however that’s one beastie of a jag rat rod. Love it ❤️
👍
This car has wonderful looks. its about time someone brought it into the 21st century.
I have one of these in my backyard that belongs to a friend. He had me cut the engine bay out and set the body on a Chevy S-10 frame front half which had already been v-8 swapped for SBC.
Oh my god..that is so sick..love everything,i want one,wow....
More cars like this please....
Awesome.
Mate, seeing your happiness is testimony to a bloody good vehicle. Brilliant Jag. Thankyou for sharing.
It was such a laugh 😂
Always said that the older cars are much more better looking than todays cars with their huge wrap around bumpers, humongous lights, no body contour lines, no stamped out ventilation/drainage holes & no roof rack gutter rails, damn I miss all that stuff.
Really miss the good old days when cars were cars.
No Peter, its normally a 3.4, 3.8 or 4.2 but I digress.. The S type was always the best looking MK2 so a great base.
Like the stance, undecided on the paint colour, and the finish looks rough as on the front, but frankly its the arches that let it down .. go full body colour John Steed XJ and it would look stunning. Appreciate the bags for the stance, but the XJR suspension was already one of the best riding cars ever, plush but could also handle. I owned 2 XJR's the last one being an R1 and i nearly cried when I moved to Mallorca and had to sell it. The grunt & whine when the supercharger kicks in never gets old!!
If only my XJR sounded like yours it would have been perfect if antisocial LOL. Great project an absolute beast! 👌
Superchargers dont kick in...
"Do you race it?"
"Only if I wanted that to be my last hour on this Earth."
Perfect!
😂😂😂
Love it!, you could never get tired of that sound,, would love to see it with the glass blacked out that would be mean looking
In Aussie we called 'em 380. (You had the 420 - 4.2litre yes?) Insane thing, love it. Not much in common with my old 2.4!
Wow! Love it. Like an English mad max car. I see so many tuned vag cars and sympathetic resto mods. This is just refreshingly sod it, why not?
I just can’t get the image of Withnail and I out of my head lol, brilliant and beautiful car too.
Scrubbers!
One day my 70's mini will sound like this! Brilliant.
Rover V8, Austin Princess gearbox. Itll squeeze in a Clubman. A Finnish guy did it Viku Perala I think his name was. Fwd too. Then make it look standard except for 3500GT stickers along the side, centre exit exhaust and the sound!
What a car and what an unbelievable presentation, very well done both, the smiles on your face tell it all. I have never been a fan of such conversions, just finished full restoration of a 420 to perfect original, but having seen this, I become uncertain if my concept was right...🥴👍😁 Congratulations guys!!!
Great opening sequence. Before I leave planet blue, I want to own a car with this side exit exhaust.
I love it, the best jag in the world, I love how it looks, the builder and owner should be very proud to own such a beautiful car.
I had a 6 cylinder camaro that sounded like that when it would get a leaky exhaust header. I think what a Brit thinks sounds healthy and what a USA car sounds like are two different things
and remember, one can turn corners and the other can't.
@YuhBoy DTOY I've heard better sounding lawnmower engines!
A neighbour of mine had an XJS coupe the motor threw a rod cost to change for a new engine $25 000 solution to problem he dropped a 350 Chevy engine in its place added a stroke crank boosting it to 383 cubes inches cost $6000 it's performance Mind Blowing
I remember my uncle had one, nice Dark Blue, we used to drive around with big head phones on listening to the 8 Track stereo he had fitted... great car.
My dad's had 3 of these. Just about remember being in the back of them as a child in the 70's. Smell the leather now 👌
J Boy nothing like that smell !
Memory’s in a sniff lol
Wow me too I thought it was just me always thinking about that leather smell, and the push button start.. My family had 2 MK2's in the 70's, 1 of them we used to bring to Jaguar shows and win awards.
I love it. A RAT JAG. Want to make one.
Yeah my Dad had the V8 Daimler version of the MKII, I was 5 and I still remember it.
First Jag with IRS in the back.Loads of people got car-sick riding in the rear seats!😂
Wow
The best car I've seen in a very long time.
Absolute class
not ever seen a car that appeals so much
As a kid, my grandfather had 2 Mk2 Jags, wire wheels, the lot (still my dream car), his phone number was 3 digits!
OMG 😳 i love your country where crazy cars like this one can exit...thanks for this great moment of « petrol fun » and what an amazing noise...i can’t imagine what it sounds like for real. 😂👍
Very loud 😂
There should be a movie produced around this car, although Steve McQueen died long ago so I'm not sure who could be the co-star.
The only living legend is Jeff Bridges.
Alexei Sayle . . .
Me and a buddie installed a set of headers on my 305 v8 chevy truck. The stock exhaust pipe wouldnt fit so i drove it to the local muffler shop to get some welding done on it. Driving through el paso with open headers was fun!
Makes a nice change for a classic to be souped 👌👍🏼🙏
Demonic sums this car up nicely 👌. Its nuts, unique and ruddy awesome ❤👍
Yep 👍
Mental machine , the wheel arch extensions look utterly horrendous though 😂
Who wouldn't want a neighbor like that ?
wow wow wow that was an amazing bit of kit love the sound of it and the way it looks brilliant video pete
This is a very good build in anyones books. I take my hat off to the two guys who built it. If i had the kind of money to be able to do this kind of build, nothing in the world would stop me. Thanks for upload.
Thank I did it with a friend Julian and he was a great friend and brilliant with bodywork 😏
@@mickhunt6578 Just randomly stumbled across this video, two years late, awesome car!

@Eyes Odd no I'm in West Yorkshire
@@mickhunt6578 Ah that would be why I've not seen it locally then, still in the families ownership?
That being said, I LOVE this Jag, an love the flares, though sculpted would have my vote. I dunno, I'm not a fan of "bold-on" flares in any application.
Damn that is an unusual looking Jaguar but it looks amazing! And with the modern V8 and transmission it makes a wonderful daily driver.
This looks INCREDIBLE! I LOVE it so much, my ideal choice of classic car. Its a car that looks like a classic but that has modern performance, handling, braking, interior etc. Perfect!
Most of it looks pretty stealth, but those horrid flares definitely suck! However, it's performance makes up for it..
Yeah it’s kinda ratted out intentionally, pretty cool though
To me the flares look cool! But I respect your view
If you'd actually watch the vid, you'd know that it's just a temporary measure until it's finished. Urgh.
Driving it gently must be like trying to fire a machine gun gently.
Never been a huge Jaguar fan. No disrespect. But this Jag is fantastic!!! Mean
THAT put a smile on my face on a miserable, cold, misty and crappy morning.... I WANT ONE!!!!
Great to hear 👍
Hi Pete, I can understand the appeal he saw in that particular mk2 Jaguar but it really isn’t my cup of tea. To see a fully restored Jaguar mk2 to its original condition is a pure joy.
I agree 👍
David Tennant should drive this car in Bad Omens.
This car is a straight middle finger up too the concours show and shine (originality) side to classic cars. This is definitely one of a kind
Yep 👍
Awesome vid. Hope you can find some more content like this!!!
OMG I WANT that car!!! Would've liked a really detailed look at the interior!
Sorry. The work needed to get the rear seats is was impressive. Although if you have legs you wouldn’t be able to sit in the back 😂
Great vid Ped!! Completely unique jag. Thanks for sharing. 👍
My pleasure 👍
