  • This is a mid project video showing some progression and some methods used to enhance the ride film further. BTTF the ride is being restored slowly from several low quality sources like dvd's and vhs tapes. This shows work on the Trex encounters

    And to think that all of this effort needs to be done, simply because universal wont release this footage themselves. You are an absolute saint for taking the effort to do this. May the Back to the Future ride live on!

    As a huge Back to the Future fan and a current team member for the Simpsons Ride at Universal Orlando, thank you for this. All of this. It is because of you that I am able to watch BTTF The Ride in such amazing quality while I do my ride throughs for the Simpsons Ride. I'll be asking around with techs and old heads/Simpsons veterans that have been around since BTTF was a ride to see if I can pinpoint where those original 70mm films went, and if they would be obtainable to get for you. Keep up the amazing work, I promise it does not go unnoticed.

    I love how you used the music from back to the future 3's ending. It adds so much to the video, honestly. really gives off the vibes that something big was lost, and is being brought back in one way or another. It gives off so much hope that the ride footage can be restored and i love it.

    • @Themaxleydog

      well the only reason i use it is because it's one of the few calm/less distracting tacks from bttf. the rest make it hard to concentrate on the video itself.

    It's very sad that Universal doesn't take the time and effort to just transfer the full 70mm frame, in fact, it made no sense to just crop the image like that for the DVD. Thank you so much for your efforts. The ride lives on through your accomplishments

    • @aaronprewitt344
      @aaronprewitt344 3 года назад

      actually, it somewhat makes sense. They cropped the footage simply because they wanted it to fit on mostly 4:3 TVS.

    • @ZetaReticuli1.
      @ZetaReticuli1. 3 года назад

      @@aaronprewitt344 Not necessarily. The 70mm film negative is open matte, meaning what they did was hard matte the footage. The 70mm footage fit into a VHS transfer, which was displayed on a 4:3 screen uncropped. Cropping it for 16:9 on the DVD was to make fit onto a widescreen television

    I'm very impressed with your work on restoring this ride experience. I was lucky enough to get to go on it in 2005 when I went with some family to Florida. I was curious though if you had though about preserving the original 24 fps of the ride rather than interpolating it?
    The interpolation in your last versions is honestly quite distracting because it's very obvious that was not the original frame rate. I just watched your other video on the ice age scene and it looks so much better at the original 24 fps there. The interpolated version ends up with mostly smeared frames which starts to destroy the work you've put in to increase the clarity.
    It would be good for those who'd like to see it in the original frame rate to be able to experience it as well as those who like the interpolation. I know there will be a lot of folks who like the frame rate kept original.

    • @Themaxleydog
      @Themaxleydog  3 года назад

      these are only edited in 24fps with interpolation added as a last step. if someone wants a 24fps version they can just ask. even the previous version has a 24fps version

  • @ViewpointProd
    @ViewpointProd 3 года назад

    This isn't a comment on your work, but i feel the camera movements are so much better for Star tours in comparison to BTTFR, i get it's a different type of experience, and the way the camera/motions are is probably so everyone feels connected, as this was shown more typically like an imax film is shown, just with individual ride vehicles instead of the shared screen and singular vehicle of Star tours. But it feels like you're not seeing enough of the film when viewing it thought something like this, like you're not seeing any of the ground, as if your view is obstructed, idk how to describe it.

    • @Themaxleydog
      @Themaxleydog  3 года назад +5

      keep in mind this film stock is in its raw format and as a result .. "doesn't look correct". Without it being shown on a massive scale surrounding your entire vision it will of course not look correct. Star Tours was a 100% flat widescreen film where the entire stock was matted for a single flat screen , so anything you were supposed to see was localized to a single boxed window in front of a small room of people.
      The reason the sky takes up most of the frame in bttf is because your view was localized IRL to the bottom 30% of film in BTTF the ride. This is to allow things to pass over your head. Without it being shown in it's correct format it's never going to look correct.
