    Found these slugs on my mini rose and mixed up a homemade solution and it works wonders! 100ml warm water, 2 ml baby oil, and 3-4 drops of dish soap (to emulsify the oil and water). Apparently the baby oil (a mineral oil) does something to the soft bodied insects and they don’t seem to come back. Mix it up in a spray bottle and continuously shake the bottle to make sure everything is mixed while you’re spraying. Try to spray on the backside of the leaves and soft tips of the plant in the evening or early morning; avoid spraying in direct sun/ heat. Works well on aphids too! Probably see a change after 2 treatments.

    My great Grandpa had a different way of dealing with these guys. It was, "Cassi, use your little fingers to pull those off'a there and drop them in this cup." It was usually just salty water. Yup, his guard against slugs and caterpillars was me for a good number of years. They were THE WORST on the berries though. Now I gather them alive and feed them to my birds. My chickens and ducks make short work of anything creepy crawly. And generally speaking as long as the plant has thorns the birds leave them alone.

    Thank you! I’m a new plant mom and I couldn’t figure out what the spots were. I thought it was powdery mildew. The copper spray wasn’t working and I even cut off most of the leaves. Now I know what to do. 😊🌹

    Please, spray at night or evening Captain Jacks kills bees too! Squishing while yucky, keeps the bees safe if you can do it, if not keep the spray to when bees are asleep.

    I have white spots and black on my new David Austin roses. It's so disheartening. The leaves have holes in them and even my Hibiscus that is planted next to the roses do too. I found a Japanese beetle and a black shiny sliter looking insect feasting on the roses.

    Your plants in a pot , just lay on its side and spray under the leaves. That Rose otherwise doesn’t look happy.

    Do you rinse the product the next day ? I’m just afraid the heat and sun will burn the leaves

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  3 года назад +3

      Hi Sorydiva. No, I don’t rinse it off, although you probably could. It kills the bugs fairly quickly. Any spray I put in the leaves I do in the early morning so that it has a few hours to dry before the sun hits the leaves. You could also spray around 6pm- as the sun is starting to set. Then the spray will have the entire night to do what it needs. Thanks for watching 😀
