I go through all 85 characters (including Traveler variations) to discuss what every single one of them is best at in comparison to all the other characters in the game as of Genshin Impact 4.6. Let's welcome our new Fontaine roster like Arlecchino, Lyney, and friends to this endlessly growing roster of characters.

Now that you mention Nahida's unique dendro gauge, Beidou and Zhongli both have unique 4U gauge on their initial burst damage. And Kaeya's elemental skill has 7U gauge when freezing water.
I just want to vouch for the 9 pro. I play Genshin on it when I'm away from home and it's a great experience.

He literally melts the worse hits in his NA sequence, meanwhile ganyu melts her best motion value wise skill, wryo has some sort of sustain ig, but if you're looking for dmg ganyu still holds the crown.

In the opposite end, we have the almighty hydro traveller with 6s screen time out of obligation (probably can be further reduced by a second or two). No wonder he got beat up by Arle badly. Blame hydro archon for the "power" he received from the status, oh my bad, no more hydro archon...

Neuvilletteis the only character who can infuse himself with an element via his idle

Dehya is the best carry for Dragonspine exploration: she never dies from the cold even if you leave for ten minutes, and since she's pyro she can also light torches
Kaveh is the best at surviving burgeon / Nilou teams, since he gets healed by the dendro cores. So a decent option as a dendro driver if you don't want to bring a healer / shielder
ayato has the biggest aoe off field hydro application (like ganyu’s burst) and probably the most versatile on field hydro dps/driver at c0 (teamcomp wise). that’s why he’s called jack of all trades, master of none

@@Konomidebanshouwashikisesur Neuvillette is mostly a charge attack user as well. Doesn't synergize anywhere near as well with the rest of the cast as a normal attack spammer like Ayato. Lots of abilities only trigger off of normal attacks. Aside from that, Ayato's burst buffs the whole team's normal attack damage. Ayato also has much bigger AoE than Neuvillette, as well as more consistent access to AoE hydro application. Neuvillette is better in terms of on field damage numbers, but that's about the extent of what the character offers.
@@danielhounshell2526 well all of that doesn't really matter when Neuvillette does the same amount of damage as Ayato/Yelan/Xingqui all by himself. By dude NO ONE has better Aoe then Neuvillette. You can literally hit every enemy at the same time because of his stupid beam. And I'm not even gonna include Spin to Win because that's just unfair on any other aoe character. Ayatos normal attack buff doesn't really matter because only he can use it in his teams. And Neuvillette has actually the same amount of hydro application as Ayato when on field.
for candace, i would say at c6 she now has the unique role of being the only NA-based aoe off-field hydro applier, making her good with arlecchino vape teams

I’ve built and played with most of the hydro characters and I’d say Ayato is currently the most VERSATILE even if he’s not the most powerful. He can be used as a main DPS, a driver, or even an expensive off-field burst support/wide-spread hydro applicator. His slashes are wide enough for some AOE but can also be used in single-target. He works in any hydro reaction team: Freeze, Vape, Electro-Charged, Bloom, etc. He can still make use of other characters like Yelan, Xinqiu, Yun Jin and Thoma too because he uses Normal attacks.
If you look at all the other hydro characters in game so far, I don’t believe any of them can match Ayato in the number of different ways he can be played or the teammates he can work with at C0.
Ive been using superwet team with furina venti ayato and kokomi in abyss recently. Ayato can work in almost any team because of his flexibility and short rotations.
So far I only have 4 hydro characters, and by far this makes him the best and versatile character, i can make vape teams but he does best in my hyper bloom w fischl and tighnari (obv w my comfy shield by Zhongli)
Kaveh is the safest on-fielder for Nilou teams with maxed bountiful core damage buffs since he can serve as a self-healing human shield. Other characters, if they’re not shielded, will take heavy bloom damage that may outright kill them or be difficult to heal depending on your healer. Kaveh actually gets healed himself by the bountiful cores exploding all around him which is both hilarious and incredible to witness. If he wanted to, he could just stand there while everything else but himself dies to bountiful cores. 😂
And for Layla, I believe she also is the only shielder we have with consistently good uptime on the Tenacity of the Millelith set besides Zhongli. But for Zhongli to do what Layla does for TofM uptime, he has to place his pillar(s) very carefully and not have them destroyed.

i think Wriothesley have the most Questionably best C1 buff to character in game since it gives :
- Nearly uptime skill duration by extending it
- cut half gracious rebuke cooldown
- gives gracious rebuke on normal atk combo
- increase Special charge atk damage from 50% bonus to 200% bonus
Hoyo just said "get C1 to fully play Wriothesley"
in terms of comfort it is a big upgrade for him and it's unquestionably a good c1, but in terms of pure dmg increase i believe neuvillette and arlecchino's c1s are the biggest increases in the game while also giving IR
@@tigeress151 Well, Neuvilette's c1 doesn't actually increase your damage at all, it just opens the possibility of using other teams more effectively, like with Furina, but it doesn't directly buff his damage.
wriothesley's c1 does not even create a 10% damage difference, the difference between it and c0 is very low due to icd problems. c1i just makes his own damage look high, it doesn't contribute much to dpr.
@@thehurricanegod Where did you even get that info out of? Wriothesley c1 ups his damage by 30% in melt teams (which are the teams you already run him in, calculation was done by TGS and IWtL) and he has no ICD on his CA so he has no problems with ICDs at all.
Without considering the team it is still one of, if not, the strongest C1 in the game since it gives him a healing CA after all his normal strings, and still gets bonus damage on said CA. Neuvilette C1, without a team is just interruption resistance for no damage increase.
Considering the team I don't know of a C1 that spikes the damage higher than his, since (discounting furina, which is because of furina herself not c1) even Neuvilette C1 doesn't up his damage by that much.
All of this is also to consider that C1 fixes his gameplay, making his combo from an HP *NEGATIVE* to an HP positive rotation and adds a more reliable stack of rebuke other than losing HP.
@@wayforglory945 I didn't deny that it makes the gameplay easier anyway, the thing is not the icd of chargeds, but the icd of NA hits and xiangling. Since it conflicts with Xiangling, in some cases you need to do charged it before collecting the full stacks, otherwise you cannot trigger melt, especially against non-boss opponents his c1 almost completely loses its function.
I'd argue Lynette has the best taunt in the game because hers is indestructible and swirls for a while.
dang iwintolose didnt even wanna mention that diluc has the highest low/high plunge multipliers in the game, he just stated "he aight with Xianyun"

@@purplerainPR Well, at the end of the day, hes just human. Aside from hes not liking Diluc, hes one of the best in terms of calculations, with his peak potential percentage characters. Hes also care enough to make both C0 n C6 content, albeit not perfect, but he tries. We can see that.

I would add that hydro traveler is by far the most accessible character with a pneuma alignment, since it was included for Lynette and ousia I thought this would be a good property to mention! The only other pneuma characters must be obtained through gatcha, and Lynette was given out for free specifically so players would have that ousia attack for Fontaine exploration. Besides, it's not like hydro traveler has much else going for them... this is the least they can offer! :D

yeah, while he mentioned an anemo traveler is "the best character for the first few minutes of the game" but not talk about this pneuma alignment aspect for a hydro traveler.
also hydro mc is the best starting character for solving hydro-relate puzzles like monument as he can pew pew from very far away unlike Barbara, and has no charge delay like Neuvillette (but this might be extreme specificity)
Of course, now we have the sword of Nar…. The sword of Narsizin… Narsisin… ugh, what ever it’s called, there’s now no need to ever use hydro traveler, even if you are f2p. Thank goodness.

thoma is also the best shield option for chevy teams and at c6 with normal attack buffs you're not losing a ton of damage by choosing a shielder
Ayato can be a dps, sub dps and a kind of a support with his burst, he's very versatile I suppose.
Ayato is the most comfortable on field hydro dps. You just stand still and hold attack button. He gets decent resistance interruption in that state.
I mean I love Ayato, I have him C2 R1 and he’s by far my best built unit.
But Neuvillette exists and at C0 R1 he basically solos everything.
don't know if he's more comfortable than neuvillette who also has huge aoe with big numbers to kill everything way faster

Ayato is the most versatile hydro character. He can be played literally in any role and in almost any team where hydro is needed. At the same time, he can still deal pretty decent damage. Honestly, I see no reason to treat him that badly.
7:10 Ayato is really good With event content (ventiable) because his burst lets you do AoE Hydro damage from off field, Characters like him and ganyu pair up really well against that content. Even though people say Neuvillette "Powercrept" Ayato, Ayato has off-field application while Neuvillette has none, and most of the other 5* hydro options are super single target or have other downsides like Furina requiring a healer or Mona sucking ass
As a Eula main I can confirm that physical is nowhere near a "Bad" element, it's only worse in comparison to others. The good thing about physical is that NOTHING is immune to it, and with just one electro character like Lisa, she can wipe out any damage resistance an enemy has.
I believe most human enemies have -20% phys resist so they actually take more physical dmg, but on the other hand robotic enemies have 40~70 % phys resist. Kinda unfair that physical is the only dmg type where enemies have such high resistances

Then Xinyan is not bad DPS at all, she is only worse compared to other characters. I mean compared to me she deals more dmg
Ayato is probably the best burgeon sub/driver for a Thoma team with Nahida.
Ayato is the best on-field hydro character when used for bloom-related reactions, especially for burgeon and Nilou teams:
Ayato is still the best on-field hydro driver when you need normal attacks; namely as a burgeon driver. He has massive aoe with his slashes while still proccing Thoma's burst for burgeons.
Ayato is also the only hydro character who is damage focused and has relevant on-field and off-field hydro application. This also means he's the best secondary hydro in Nilou bloom teams because out of your 4 slots, 1 goes to Nilou, 1 goes to Nahida, 1 goes to a dendro healer, and last one goes to Ayato. And when you're swapping off Ayato to refresh the other characters' abilities, Ayato burst is still giving you a respectable amount of blooms.
Not Neuvillette because he doesn't count as normal attacks and has no off-field presence.
Not Childe because his skill gets massive cooldown issues and no off-field presence.
Kokomi is a decent option and probably the other best alternative; Barbara can be an okay budget replacement
Mona is a debuffer and does something else.
Xingqiu and Yelan are pretty much all off-field only, so there's little benefit for running them on-field over their off-field role.
Candace's value is locked behind c6 except in Nilou bloom teams with Yaoyao.
ayato i'd argue has the most diverse branch when it comes to supports he enjoys. he enjoys very niche units like mika, candace, yunjin, nilou, thoma, while also working well with the meta units like kazuha, bennett, fischl and such
Ayato : best AoE hydro application (both on and off-field), making him very relevant for Nilou and Burgeon teams.
Amber's bunny is still unique that it can infuse with cyro, that can let you swirl cryo against enemies that have shields or permanent elemental infusion.
Ayato is the best hydro taser driver when surrounded by enemies, due to huge area of rapid hydro application allowing electro-charged to jump automatically, triggering even more reactions. great for Nahida and Fischl that triggers with reactions.
Barbara has the fastest hydro application in the game under certain conditions (with her ring touching 4 or more targets, including dendro cores or own summons that have hitbox such as Amber skill or Lynette burst). This makes her the strongest hydro applicator in freeze bloom teams. Her self-infusion also allow you to swirl or infuse hydro with anemo skills even when the enemy is immune to hydro infusion. She is also the only hydro catalyst character that make good use of the Favonius Codex.
Anemo Traveler has the highest potential of resistant shed against Coppelia, with Sword of Narzissenkreuz (which disables 25% resistance increase during Coppelia's climax), VV set (40%) and c6 (20%), for a total of 85% resistance shred (against pryo, hydro, cryo or electro) provided by a single character.
Electro traveler produce the longest unconditional off-field electro resistance shred through her c2 (covering up to 20 seconds with 12s burst up-time and 8 seconds of resistance reduction duration upon hit). She also have unique mechanic that can recharge energy for the character you want, with sacrificial sword she is great for rapidly recharging Cyno or Eula who don't want to build ER themselves.
Hydro Traveler can produce the fastest number of hits with her burst (12 hits per second against a single target, even more with multiple small targets) by abusing dendro cores and anemo grouping. This hydro MC hypercarry is even viable for the abyss.
Xinyan at c2 is the best pyro shielder for Neuvillette+Kazuha because the self infusion allows infusing Kazuha burst with pyro even when the enemy is on hydro or other elements.
Ayato is the best off-field AOE hydro application

What noone ever mentions is, I believe amber might have best puzzel coverage (pyro pillars, archery, renged pyro, preassureplates activation with baron bunny, gliding buff)
For Ayato, I think he's the most consistently sustained hydro driver in teams with characters like C6 Fischl 😊. Favorite team is him with bennet kauha and Fishcl. Great in single target and aoe imo
Ayato is the best at being the most ungrateful dude when you're just exploring about and farming primogems, even if it's for him.
Electro MC uniquely has an ult that always strikes AFTER you do, which makes it pretty useful for hyperbloom actually. If you have R5 Xiphos, you can load her up on EM and still have the ER she needs to burst. Outside of that shes the best single target battery in the game (meaning she does actually give more energy than Raiden, but only to a single character) but usually not worth the slot

@@reasanka8667 nope because EMC also increases the target characters ER% a lot while also giving them a bunch of energy from the skill which can also be Sac.Sworded. When it comes to single target batteries she's 2nd to none but her issue is she costs some fieldtime and doesnt do anything beyond just battery so its basically a dead slot. Dori heals at least
I think everyone agrees Tighnari is overall the best character on the standard banner, something you could add for the next edition

Honestly tell me another character at C1R1 max that can kill Raiden before she turns 2nd phase with no team no buff while dodging absolutely everything
As a C1R1 Neuvi haver, he can, but Raiden attacks are too fast to dodge with just CA gliding so I guess he doesn't fit the nohit criteria here
I have Arlecchino at C2R1, well, she is definitely strong asf, but consume too much time to wait for her Bloodept marks, I managed to get Raiden down to around 1/4 HP solo nohit but its hard to kill her before 2nd phase while dodging everything

Dare to say he's one of the hardest unit to play in this style, yet one of the most fun and strong once ur good at it

Ayato is the most flexible on field hydro character. Working in any hydro reaction team as an on and off fielder
Ayato has the best quadratic scaling. He does exponentially more damage the more enemies are grouped in his burst. ( The reason for that is that every hit is an aoe hit independent per enemy in the burst.)
Ganyu's burst also has quadratic scaling, but more dmg
i remember back when al haitham's release, majority of the player says that he sucks because he's too complicated to play LMAO fun times

Shout out to Lynette for often being overlooked by most people yet here she is being used above (arguably) one of the best characters in the game Kazuha, so props to her and screw everyone who doesn't even give her a chance. "Navia has the sickest fashion sense in all of Teyvat" Dang right she does! Couldn't agree more. Peak Genshin design. She's also best at being (arguably) the most fun to play, as her skill is extremely satisfying to use.
As a Navia main and bit of a simp everytime I E with her I close my eyes while normal attacking cause I know it's all gonna be okay

As a Gaming main C6 there is no reason for debate that he is the best dps 4 star. And on top of that he is the strongest Ftp or new players friendly character in the game . Mh set + crit rate circlet its 60 crit rate and you can vape with XQ or Barbara.

Ayato has the best off field aoe hydro aplication with his burst that can also buff normal attack
Promoting Redmagic phone right after the Samsung event is a chad move
- layla is able to hold key of khaj-nisut enabling her to provide a full party em buff given a small modification to the team's rotation. this is often at the cost of lengthening a rotation but in tandem with TOTM provides the largest offensive utility of all the shielders in pyro carry vaporize teams against freezable mobs, enabling some hits to melt instead of vaporize.
- candace at c6 has the best aoe off field hydro application based on normal attacks, making her the best option over xingqiu or yelan in some aoe scenarios for a low constellation arlecchino
- razor's unique damage ceiling from the overburgeon archetype comes from his unique elemental burst, which applies electro to himself enabling him to self-overload with bennett's pyro self-application
- kokomi is the only character whose damage scales off the healing bonus stat...
- while you mentioned childe's riptide being good for aoe mobs scenarios, it, along with the 'booking' interaction (pausing the game mid-domain challenge through menu options) can be abused to accumulate unreasonable amounts of points in fast-spawnimg mob events
- dehya consolidates tenacity of millileth uptime, resistance to interruption, and burning application and pyro resonance and is a competitive slot for ganyu-nahida burnmelt teams due to being the only defensive option
-shinobu has the largest potential em ceiling of the full-uptime hyperbloom drivers due to being able to hold r5 key of khaj-nisut, converting hp% to em.

- sucrose is the best on-field anemo/vv driver for electrocharged, cataclyze, and overvape teams, as she consolidates anemo infusion on her normal and charged attacks (making her anemo applications not reliant on cooldowns), grouping, and a teamwide em buff. she's also the only anemo unit able to swirl guoba's self-applied pyro, an interaction that enables the fastest double-swirl in the national archetype and certain overvape teams (e.g. sukokomon)
- heizou is a better on-field anemo driver for quickswap freeze teams than sucrose due to his higher anemo damage multipliers and the freeze archetype's lack of a need for em buffs or grouping
- lynnette's burst shares the anemo traveler's different elemental absorption priority, absorbing cryo before pyro.
- gorou has a unique na string among bow users with NA1 having no frame delay, which enables a faster form of RR-cancelling without the need for an uncharged charged shot. this makes him the best physical bow carry in the game and the character that best takes advantage of this interaction.
- due to yanfei's a4 passive having hitlag and ability to take advantage of lost prayers' movement spd buff, she's the only catalyst character to be able to take advantage of fhe dragonstrike interaction and plunge attack without the assistance of xianyun
- yelan's c4 is the only source of supportive max hp buffs in the game beyond hydro resonance (as opposed to self-applied buffs such as furina's c2 and weapon)
- electro traveler has a niche in overworld as they're able to restore energy on demand, making your favorite high burst cost carries much easier to use
- bennett is also the best at breaking electro shields with thundering fury lol

electro trav actually has the best flat energy to 1 other unit, especially with fav sword. C4 with all 3 amulets provides 24 flat energy if you get the double bonus, well also preped with fav sword providing all that white energy particals, well also providing bonus ER% on to the person who got the amulets by 30%-45% depending on travs ER%. if you trav E with fav sword into insta switch to pick up the amulets, youll get bonus ER before getting white particals. this actually makes ER heavy units like noelle, itto, xiao and if you dont got a good team for cyno actually need 0 ER. downside, only 1 unit can get this massive ER boost. burst also provides flat energy to active unit, but balancing the use of burst is a bit hard. burst also techiclly can hit 24 times for 24 flat energy(32 with C6) but not reasonable with chars to trigger it every 0.5s. but regardless it also is another source of flat energy.
ayato can provide a hydro zone with his ultimate burst which actually can be very useful
i haven't read all the comments so probs someone had mentioned this, but i'd love to chip in something about ayato: his burst is best hydro support ✌✌ his hydro field stays a long time, and his passive recharges his energy real fast when he's off-field, so i never had to worry about building his ER and can focus more on dps stats. I especially love teaming him up with ayaka
Yeah, people are mentioning that Xingqiu has better off field support, but his is just single target, on top of not really contributing anything on field. Ayato also makes good use of him because he's a normal attack spammer.
I'd still say ayato is still the best at being very flexible, he might not excel at anything, but he can do everything
Ayato is the choice most nilou mains will use. Despite needing a lot of er, it's actually very comfy to use when you hit his requirements.

Barbara is great at hydro application, and she's the best fridge bloom driver against groups of enemies because of her skill's special ICD against multiple enemies (bringing her hydro application higher than Kokomi's against 3+ enemies iirc), and she can also run Favonius to refill everyone's bursts while they're off field
Diluc is the best self-melt character in the game with Chongyun. He can NA>E>NA to melt his own hits because he has 3 elemental skill charges. (You can also self vape with Candace, you get the point). This completely removes the need to build any character except Diluc on the team in order to deal decent elemental damage (pyro/hydro/cryo).
Freminet can be used a particle bot since I think his skill generates particles even under his burst (I could be wrong, I only did his trial)
Ganyu is the best off field cryo applicator too, with 100% uptime on her burst
Ayato is still my favorite hydro driver for a hyperbloom team. With him, Nahida, and EM Raiden, enemies in Ayatos burst literally just die on thier own. Throw Baizhu in there and it's one of the comfiest Abyss clears in the game imo.
Ayato is the best character for the least amount of button clicks to deal damage in terms of NA. My controller's right shoulder button popped (My NA button). I can still use it, but it's less clicky and I do miss some NA once in a while, reducing my overall damage. Ayato lets me hold down my NA button and not lose dps much)
Ayato is best at being a hydro NA based driver for bloom reactions (specifically for Thoma) since Childe moves around too much to consistently hit cores, and Neuvi is charged attack based.

Amber might be the most underappreciated character. She might not be the strongest pyro dmg dealer but she provides alot of map exploration utility that not many other characters can provide.
• long distance pyro application for torches/puzzles.
• taunts enemies
• 40 enrrgy short cooldown burst
• balloon/barrel timed events
• glide stamina reduction to reach the unnamed island
• most importantly, no need to pull for!
You can say Yoimiya, Lyney, Klee, or Yanfei can do better but guess what? You gotta pull for them first and hope your rng is good.

I've always thought Ayato remains the best Dendro reaction Hydro driver, he has better consistent Hydro application than Neuvi while also being easier to use with the 4 star bloom triggers in Thoma and Kuki thanks to being Melee

For Ayato, I feel that he's the best comfort driver to play in reaction based teams. I say this as a person with a c0 r1 ayato and a c1r1 neuvillette but still plays ayato more than neuvillette (maybe im just a simp), but for bloom teams and soup teams and teams that are NOT hypercarry and reliant on the on fielder to do the majority of the damage, ayato is better than neuvillette, as neuvillette's field time is too long in my experience to have a smooth rotation. (Totally unbiased because ayato is my most played character and im a simp). either way, i find my ayato soup team to be much more fun than brainless hydro pump.
the only reason i have c1 r1 neuvi is bc im obsessed with solo-ing spiral and he is the best option to do that. patiently awaiting an abyss cycle easy enough for my skill issue.
I think ayato is good at being flexible in terms of team comps, especially freeze. I used him a lot for freeze and i still think he's the best at it. Also compared to noovylet, ayato can dodge faster and continue his atk. Plus his skill imo, lasts quite a bit. And the CD isnt long at all!
8:17 Barbara only applies hydro to the character for a split second when she heals. The reason you get frozen is because it causes a freeze if you ALREADY have a cryo aura. But i don't understand why people talk about this so much. There are 7 elements in the game and she's bad with one of them. It's the same thing as saying Neuvilliette is bad cuz he can't kill a hydro slime.

Actually with the advent of Arle, Mona got kiiiinda better. She's one of the best characters at consolidating the highest amount of buffs in a single team slot (omen+ttds+tenacity/instructor). The usual problem is omen is short, but with how frontloaded Arle is, Mona can fit surprisingly well.
Aloy is also the best for flexing in Co-op, not in a big damage numbers way, but in a "look I have this super rare character" kind of way. Bonus points if you're a Playstation player and you equip the PS exclusive glider.
She also used to be the only one to approach critters that drop meat, fowl, and frozen meat without startling them (until Kirara was given the same passive).
Bonus points if you equip her signature weapon, only obtainable on PS during a tiny window of time. It’s hot garbage but y’know, bragging rights.

Venti is the best at helping you sweep floors 9 and 10 since those floors are always large groups of small mobs. I still use Mogana for those floors haha
Geo Traveler has a CR buff too. It is less than Rosaria at only 10%, but if we're talking accessibility you can't beat a completely free option that doesn't even require the character ti be built.

You need to add that Anemo traveler is the best at moving minions around the map. Nothing funnier or more fun than when you start than to suck up both hillitrolls and barron bunnies in a single tornado only to have the bunnies explode and infuse the tornado.
You should also make a tierlist every region patch ends. For instance when Fontaine patch ends (v4.x) make a tierlist update.
