I have seen them go up to 260k without a problem with proper scheduled oil changes. If you run it low on oil it will cause premature wear. The oil leaks are the real problem. If you are in Atlanta I repair these engines exclusively. I also use a unique oil sealing system that prevents further leaks forever. . More people will appreciate these cars later.
The 540i is not a slow car by any means! I believe it is very under estimated in it's performance! Nice video! The cars sounds similar to a straight piped coyote!

Anybody looking to buy beware of 2 things. I've owned a 99 540i and a 2001 540i M Sport, both automatic. And the timing chain guides blew on both and the transmission blew on the Msport. Both were a bit high in KM, about 200,000km on both, but still something to think about before buying
My only thought for this is that you bought your 540’s from the wrong people. I bought mine with 200,000 miles (not km) original motor and 6mt, car is currently sitting on 209,000 miles and it runs amazing, I don’t beat on it that much but I definitely have fun with it, treat them right and they’ll treat you right!!
I’ll do anything to own one man I spent 1k in 3 months on my Lexus GS and it’s slow not manual and not that fun to drive with out the turbos. This looks why and sound and speed wise seems like the perfect car I know the v8 had issues but the 530i just might be a little to slow
I just picked up an 04 tsx, sure its not quick but it gets the job done and for my first car it feels pretty peppy. The handling also feels pretty nice and best thing is that i've never had any problems so far. Picked it up for 4100 cad and would recommend.
I own a 2001 BMW 540i Msport. Bought with 60K miles now has 175K. I have owned for 10 years and I have spent 22K on repairs. Currently it is sitting in my garage with a dead battery and other problems and I am ready to stick a road flare in the gas tank and walk away....
@@tlerew12 honda/acura v6/i4 automatic transmissions from that era were known to fail early. M62tu with the timing chain guide failure, quick degrading rubber seals/gaskets. But then again honda/acura also has failed weatherstrips and poorly applied seam sealer which lead to rust.

You can get a honda, a turbo kit, built engine for under 5k and run 9s 10s. Or you can just buy a used Yamaha R1 or a Honda Cbr1000rr for that money. Those are best options to be fast and cheap

Ali Daher All depends on engine displacement. A 4.7 can be V8. So can a 6.0. The smaller, generally the more raspy. The larger, the deeper it is
