I have an 05 3500 Cummins with this exact issue. Loved the video. Just had a long block from Blackwater engines installed at 383,000 and now at 495,000 with this injector issue. Not needing the truck anymore and I need it running to sell. Thanks for showing us what to look for and how to correct. Excellent!

So this a great video! I have been learning up on these exact years of common rail in the last month.
My 06 dodge 2500 manual truck hasn't gave me much trouble since I bought it off the lot new.
It threw the 2146 code.
You have choices when this happens.
It's the electronic side of injector that cuases this. If sombody sells injectors for a living they recommend replacing all 6 of course.
But doing the diagnostics and replacing just the problem injector is also a good fix. Saves about. $ 2500. Or more just in parts.
If your mechanical you can also swap out just the solenoid on top of the injector. I see many commenters saying this on these vids.
This comes with a few risk. And they may Or may not be worth it to each person. And mechanics don't like risk with a customer's engine.
Getting the electronics assembly on top of injector that isn't Chinese junk proves to be not real easy all the time.
There is a possibility it will not be in balance with old injectors after heat build up.
From what I can find out. Every single "reman" comes with old silenoids on them. This is not part of the process in "remanufacture" this includes bosch. So when purchasing a reman. You may be buying a injector body with a million miles on it with new internal seats and also a solenoid that has the same but has been ran through test from simple ohm test to more stringent criteria. To determine if it's pass as good. Remanufactures choose that criteria .
The other factor is just replacing electronics risk that internal components may be leaking inside the injector body. Which can pump your engine full of diesal or at very least dilute your oil washing bearings..

I bought a doge ram a few years ago. I knew I wanted a diesel and while I was looking I saw the Cummins and went “hey I can actually see the engine, Cummins it is”. I ended up getting an 05
I love your cummins video"s.I bought an 06 1 year ago with the 48re 2wd and I love it.
Here recently it fires up for a split second then dies,I believe it to be a return flow issue either feed tubes or injectors.
When I got the truck to the house I made sure total maintaince was done.Fluids changed bands ajusted, solonoids updated transducer, new balancer,water pump, tensioner,belt.
I also removed that Damn insulation on the firewall,what a pain in the ass.It was sagging and gets in the way when I worked on the truck especially a valve lash adjustment.
I also put a new turbo cartridge and new brake calipers,rotors,pads and flex lines.
some of the turbo intake blades were worn from the plastic garbage of a baffle in the air box elbow.I got rid of that and got a decent cool air intake,new batteries.
The ac was leaking freon out of the evap. so I replaced heater core,evap,lines,compressor,condensor...and all the seales on the hvac box.what a job.
I saved a ton of money.

I purchased an 06 a couple months ago , only one headlight works on bright. Looks like a tipm problem. Was wondering if you had a tipm problems yet ?

My dads 06 did this yesterday morning but it only threw the p2146 code. So that night i checked it all and it really threw me for a loop cause all the injectors ohmed out fine but i ran it and it was still running on three. After running it the number three injector had extremely high resistance. So ive got a coil ordered for it and Iam going to try just replacing the coil.

@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 I had a p0252 code for my vp44 pump and replaced it, and the OEM lift pump. Now the will die coming to a stop, if you get the clutch and fuel pedal at the same time it won't die and normal idling at 850 rmp. Seems no one can figure it out. Any thoughts?

You ain't kidding about them pack rats. Here a few months back i was flow out to airizona to get a 40 foot motor home (cummins powered) it had been sitting for 10 year's and the pack rats ate everything on it. So wired it up enough to get it to run and made sure my lights worked and i drove it home to walla walla for a guy. He realized the damage they caused and now its being stripped and sold for parts

Great video!!! I have the same code. Truck ran perfect no codes. Let Truck sit about 2 weeks. Lots of rain. Got in to take around the block. That 2146 pop on. Doesn’t skip or run bad. But I only went around the block. Any suggestions before I freak out. Or let someone attempt to drain my wallet. 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. 5.9.
I would love to play with injector bank1 an 2 with a clamp meter on the power feed with a scope to see coil ramp. I would think with very low resistance the turn will jump up fast. The one with high resistance would have a more different coil current ramp.

I have an 07 with a 6.7 Cummins I had to replace the fuel rail and now my truck won’t start I’m getting fuel to my rail and injectors and I’m getting about 3 to 4000 psi of cranking pressure to my rail so I know my CP three pumps good and I also put a new fuel rail sensor my truck will start with starting fluid but runs really quiet and does not wind up is there a chance I’ve got a crank sensor out or cam sensor out what kind of volts should I be getting to the wire harness that bolts to the side of the valve cover that feeds the injectors I think I have 2.7 V there
24 valve cummins valve bridges which way do they go?? no clear answer I put mine slotted side towards exhaust manifold

There doesn’t anyone say a thing about the slotted side! I’m like you on that / we took pictures but not good close ups of all the valves before we took them a part , so the question is still out no one can say how they are to be put back!

I have a 2006 2wd auto...when I place in drive or reverse I get a 2 or 3 second metallic growl.
Any suggestions on what it could be?
I figured it out....was the exhaust hanger go in from the down pipe to the bell housing.
The bushing was waore out.
If we get this code, and are getting the rough running condition, is it safe to drive to the shop? Or should it be towed?

I have this exact problem, is this common ? Can I just change the electrical Solenoid on top of the injector? Presuming the mechanical side of the injector is ok. yes and no, you can but you will have to have it re programed/calibrated so you wont be saving that much money.
Is your scanner the elite or just the pro? If the elite do you use the lab scope and how you like it?
It's just a pro.
I think it has a lot of good features and bidirectional controls for the cost in comparison to other scanners.
What engine scanner do you use ?

So what happens if you get fuel in the hole and you don't do anything about it because you didn't do anything about it on your video
Lot of unnecessary work. Remove the solenoid without touching the injector or feed tube. A solenoid off ebay is $85 for a Bosch or $20 for generic. Only replace what's at fault. 1-1/16 socket to remove the solenoid collar nut. 15 foot pounds. 13 inch pounds for the wiring nuts.
