I've always questioned knife vs chair. Lovely vid as usual nick. Helen looks like a good partner given yall's back ground and history together in teaching self defense classes.
hey Nick keep up the good work but I'm glad to see somebody teaching common sense self preservation. that's always what I've always said if you have opportunity to get away from a situation do it and if you have an opportunity you something for a weapon rather that would be someone's purse or their own purse a coat at chair even the door whatever use it to get away I'm glad to see you teaching that.
I was in a situation where I was walking my dog and it was early in the morning so it was dark out, and there was this guy that was following me, so I was hoping you could make a video about how to defend yourself if you only have your small dog with you. It was very scary and luckily nothing happened, I would just like to know for reference, I love your videos btw.
Can you do a video on how to escape from a stranger. For example if aom random guy grabs your arm when you're walking, what would you do to escape from that?
If i was ever attacked with a knife i think my reaction would be to pick up an improvised weapon or use low line kicks, I wouldn't want to use my hands as much.
A large purse, a backpack, a cafeteria tray, a laptop, a thick book...anything you can use as a shield to keep the knife away from you will be helpful. Sure, your fingers are going to get cut. Better than your face or chest.
Hi Nick. As you hold the chair with two hands, I'd grab the chair and yank it down with one hand and stab over the top real fast while you have both hands on the chair.. Not like her. But it's something rather bare hands. But gotta hit them or run. other choice
Even if you did manage to throw it at them AND hit them in the head, odds are low that it would knock someone unconscious. It sounds like a bad strategy.
It's sad how relevant this video is. There were London stabbing survivors who used chairs, beer bottles, anything they could get their hands on to ward off the stabbers. One thing I was thinking of. Would it be more useful to have the chair in a diamond rather than square? It seems like it would make the legs easier to hit and harder to grab? Rather than two horizontal legs someone can fit through or grab parallel to their body?
It is ridiculous isn't it, how our government/ society demonises self defence/weapons when it is blatantly obvious now more than ever we need to be prepared. Idk if you are but I'm also from the uk and this is one of the things I envy most about America imho. And as for the chair, I think it's best you mix it up and do both, and if the guy happens to be against a wall then pin him in the middle with it perhaps.
Rooroo92 In an interview, if I remember correctly the survivor was throwing chairs at the knife attacker and was able to escape. And yeah, self defense and tools for survival are as important as ever. Knives aren't legal to carry in the UK?
No they're not. Unless you have a "reasonable excuse" I believe they call it like if you need it for a job or something, and it has to be a less than 3" non-locking blade. We're not even allowed less than lethal options like telescopic batons, pepper spray or a taser. And if anything is used, any everyday object, in self defence to injure someone it "immediately becomes an offensive weapon" even though it was used in a DEFENSIVE manner. The only thing "offensive" is that they and the sheeple are undermining our rights, and giving criminals minimal punishment so they can get out, laugh about it over a pint, and then do it all over again. And if you tell any copper about having anything on you for self defence or being prepared in any way, they call it "premeditated violence", and lock you away. People are all like " oh nevermind armed police will sort it out" not when there's someone in front of you about to stab you, and you're sat there twiddling your thumbs waiting for your sacred armed police to arrive. They fail to realise every second counts, when minutes aren't an option. No matter how much of a body count there is, nobody ever seems to learn, which is why things like that happen a lot over here. Sorry for the rant, but it really is a joke how gullible they are to think they can ban their way into some kind of utopia.
Rooroo92 Interesting. Telescoping batons in California are illegal as well as certain knives. We also have a similar law where anything can be deemed an illegal weapon if used in a fight and the cops/courts want to see it as a deadly weapon. It took the police 2 hours to arrive last time I called in a situation that was less than safe. It's always a shame when they remove tools from law abiding citizens. Criminals will use weapons regardless of legality.
Can you show us how to defend ourself if you're inside a car, bus or plane when you can't just run.
Great suggestion.
thanks

Thanks my man!
is BJJ a good defense against a chair?
I saw this same tactic explained in Bas Rutten's Lethal Street Fighting minus the escape bit.
Thanks for watching!

is it possible for when your holding the chair up and you kick with your leg that they could slash your leg somehow and miss the chair?
yes everything is possible, but focus on striking with the chair
I will thanks nick!
Great video!
Thanks

really great idea. but
knife is very less in weight as compare to chair so it will be hard to move chair fast as knife.
You keep it centre mass, just to hold him back
Good video :)
Can you teach how to defend ourselves if we're seating down. And the attacker approach towards us behind us. By the way, great video
Sure will add it in my list.

Yes pick up something and think escape.
New Intros are intense haha!
high quality!
Thanks

Can you use a shoe as a makeshift weapon
Sure!

I'm your fan man!
Thanks Kevin

I would still use my legs, and if you grab the chair o slam it forward and then just go hand to hand. Its just a tool to create some opportunity.
right on.. I think Mase can beat a knife. And it's legal.
nice new intro!
Thanks!
If you threw it as hard as you can at their head you think it would knock them out altogether?
What if you miss and don't have another chair close by? Better to hold on to it until you can escape.
then I guess you don't throw it unless you do have another one or the table
Even if you did manage to throw it at them AND hit them in the head, odds are low that it would knock someone unconscious. It sounds like a bad strategy.
ok then, you convinced me

At this point its what ever you get. Dont think it will make a big difference.
