The timing of me watching this is uncanny. I heard a description of self care recently that really resonated with me. I used to struggle what to do for self care. As a busy single mum of 3 busy boys I was at a loss of what self care looked like for me and how I would ever fit it into my already full day. Then I heard a description that just clicked. Self care is about creating a life that you don’t feel the need to escape from on a regular basis. This explains me 🥰 and legitimises my need for an e board. You should be able to claim them on medicare 😂

For me I think Dr Maike Neuhaus hit it on the head. Back in 2017 I lost my wife of 35 years to cancer. I slipped into a severe state of depression for a year before a friend finally convinced me to go out skating with him.
After a couple of months I found that I was looking forward to e-skating more and more.
From the enjoyment that skating gave me I found myself wanting to participate in life again and decided to buy my first board, a GTX. Within 12 months I upgraded to a GTR, and have been e-skating ever since.
To this day I am so grateful that my friend introduced me to Evolve and e-skating. Now at the age of 59 I’m loving skating and have found a new lease on life.

53 year old single father who struggled with alcohol and depression in the past . Discovering Electric Skateboarding changed my life . My absolute favorite escape from life’s stresses is to grab my board and carve the heck out my the local school parking lot while rocking out to some good tunes . I’m definitely a urethane guy and the ABEC11 107s are my favorite wheel.

There is nothing more rewarding to the brain than getting out and enjoying something you like. The cool thing with e-skateboards is it gives you more confidence and a sense of safety because you have brakes, and you can slow down when you need to. Normal skateboarding requires another set of skills that takes quite a bit to learn. My wife rides her evolve with a lot of confidence, but on the other hand, she wouldn't dare jump on a normal skateboard. So evolve opens up the world of skateboarding to a lot more people who can enjoy the outdoors too.

Couldn't agree more! And research echos this, too! Just read a recent paper that showed that for each extra hour people spent outdoors, there was a decrease in the chances of experiencing major depression in their lifetime and needing antidepressants. They also reported feeling fewer instances of anhedonia - that's when you can't find joy in activities you usually enjoy. I'm really starting to think I need to try eskating myself...😄🙆🏼‍♀

Every time I’m on a longboard it feels like „surfing“ away from everyone’s all day struggle. Not like running away….more like a short break while enjoying the moment. I don‘t own a e-Board but I’m pretty sure I would enjoy that even more. 👍🏼

A brilliant conversation that confirms the benefits to our lives we all feel from this awesome sport. ESkate for better mental health. ESkate to find your flow. I don't have an Evolve board yet, but I had the chance to try a few this week at the London shop with Billy, and it was awesome. I also got a buzz just from riding with someone else for the first time, so can only imagine the feeling of taking part in a group ride. We need more of this kind of content. Peace.

I'm 55 and have been skating since I was 8. My friends and family bought me my first evolve for my 50th birthday. I ride at least 5 or 6 days a week and it has been a life changing activity/sport for me.
The dopamine/endorphins and sheer thrill of commuting to work on my GTR is second to none. You feel great, it has that "always on" feeling that you need to have at 35+ KMH - with tunes in (Foo Fighters mostly) you feel invincible and at full speed - you look pretty cool too :P
It clears my mind and sets me up for the day !! Tick Tick Tick !! ✅

I literally just gave feedback to evolve about this. Back in December I had a panic attack. First one ever. From there I haven’t been the same since and literally felt like all hope was lost for me. I decided to get an evolve board after purchasing a paddle board which also helped me regain some of my mental clarity back. Evolve has severely changed my life. It’s allowing me to feel excited about just enjoying what I enjoyed as a kid again and now I want to be a huge part of this movement because… so many around me are just suffering through mental challenges and need new outlets!!! EVOLVE! A million Thank yous and for posting this video. I mean I can’t believe it.

I've been telling people for years eSkate helps me clear my head and get away from my problems for a while because I'm too busy focusing on not smashing my face into the footpath. :) It's partially a joke (and partially true) but putting in headphones and being away from it all for an hour or two, with that freedom is a genuine form of meditation.

amazing chat guys. Dr Maike is awesome. Love the differentiation between the stigma, the terminology and the real world meanings. I have always been of the belief that one of the most effective ways to tackle socially driven stigma is to "change the language". And my "monkey brain" (lol) is exactly why I am wanting to purchase a board and carve out a happy space. I am 58 and have a desire to address all of the key elements that you both approach in this chat (and many others throughout the evolve media releases). Best discussion I have listened to for a while. Loved the topic, information and format. keep on keeping on dudes and dudettes. cheers

@@TheFlourishingDoc thats awesome. I started to investigate the idea of "change the language" when doing my visual communication and arts degree. created a piece for one of our gallery showings. It is intriguing how changing one word in a sentance can alter its perspective and impact. like changing the words woman man girl boy within a dialogue to people\person creates a much more inclusive and less segregational reception which leads to more open acceptance. Hemingway I digress. Thank you for your insightful and refreshing input.
