      Agreed! The backhand is looking a bit more loose and powerful, which is great to see. It was the only glaring weakness in his game, so it's great to see that his clearly been putting some work into it lately. You either work hard to turn your singlehander into a weapon, or it will forever remain your weakness, there is no in-between haha

    Tsitsipas is playing incredible tennis! All the people deriding his backhand last year when he wasn't playing well ought to be eating crow right now. When he's confident, he's great off both sides.

    • @fwvw7056
      @fwvw7056 13 дней назад

      No not really. As many others stated: on clay he gets more time on his backhand wing. On other surfaces it has been a major liability the past two years. Here is a fact: he managed to win 1 out of 10 top-10 showdowns since 2023 before his monte carlo run with only a few top 20 wins. That's why he has been out of the top 10 recently. On other surfaces fellow top 20 players bully his backhand and it works. On clay it is a different story. Now we would have to see if he can translate his form into a more solid backhand on grass and hardcourt - I hope he does since he has a beautiful style.

    • @bre7342
      @bre7342 13 дней назад

      @@fwvw7056 He had injuries. That's why he has been out of top 10 ( barely two months). His backhand changed after his elbow surgery, yes, but last year has been tough because shoulder and back injury, that's it. Y'all always repeating the same thing like a broken record...

    • @fwvw7056
      @fwvw7056 13 дней назад

      @@bre7342 ah I am a 'y'all' then. I watch tennis myself, and see a lot. And on top of that there are the results: on faster surfaces the ground strokes of players like Sinner, but also a tier below such as Kachanov are just too much for him. Ttsitsipas had his breakthrough in 2018 / 2019 and still has 'only' two masters, one Finals, two slam Finals and exactly zero atp500 wins. That is not a coincidence but due to the fact that in most cases fellow top players know how to exploit his weakness: the backhand in defense. For example: his return game it significantly less than other top players whilst he compensates that with his service game where he can set up the point more often to his forehand. I do root for him but I doubt he can maintain this level and have a 50/50 record against top 10 players on the other surfaces this year. Let's see, I hope he does actually.

    • @bre7342
      @bre7342 13 дней назад

      @@fwvw7056 he has 3 masters. And he has a winning h2h against Sinner, Khachanov and many other players so no, they're groundstrokes are not too much for him.He won against many tough players in all surfaces. You underestimate him for no reason and act like he's the only top player with weaknesses. He need to improve things like EVERY other player, but he's talented. And as I said he had some injuries so that's why some part of his game were less efficient last year. We clearly have different opinions...

    • @fwvw7056
      @fwvw7056 13 дней назад

      @@bre7342 Yes different opinions yet my assessment is not as rosary-coloured or fandom coloured as yours. I stand corrected on the masters: he has won the same Masters (monte carlo) thrice, not coincidentally the slowest clay court out there and the one where the top top players like Djokovic do not aim to be at their very best. Again: I am a fan of the Greek and his playing style but his backhand breaks down under pressure of the best players. He is talented but also years older than Sinner, Alcaraz and Rune who have accomplished about the same or more as Tsitsipas has. I know about the injuries but so have others and yes he has to adapt. But I am just stating the obvious here. I do compare him with the other very best because that is his potential, as he himself btw also said: he expected more of himself in terms op winning tournaments. It's not a complete coincidence he hasn't won a ATP500 tournament yet, same for Ruud until recently...who not coincidentally won his first one against Tsitsipas. Thus yes, compared to other top 4 calibre players he on hardcourt and grass has the biggest liability. Not an opinion so much as it is corroborated by results over the years.

    For those who wonder how Tsitsipas has raised his level so high, I'd like to come up with a small analysis: He's had a substantial improvement in his backhand in the last few months! I think he's improved his eye contact and thus been hitting his backhand a lot more from the sweetspot, got rid of most of his BH mishits/frame hits (which is a classic of him every match) and the ball is going much closer to the net (lower net clearance) and thus, reaching the opponent's court much quicker and also deeper. It also feels like his contact point has moved way ahead and he's been driving the racket a bit more forward rather than going from low to high on his BH side. This also seems to have enabled him to have more time for preparation and be more fierce on his FH side. He seems to have regenerated himself with this backhand renaissance thanks to his spot-on training sessions off the court with his team. He'll be a top favourite in French Open if he continues to hit his BH like that!

    Tsitsipas is such a bad match-up for Alex, it's not funny. It's even more prevalent on slow clay. But even in Acapulco, an out of sorts Tsitsipas could breadstick a decent Alex before going down in a fairly tight three setter. It's a match up issue. The weight of shot along with the variation just bamboozles Alex almost every time and has no answer to it apart from hanging onto dear life on his service games to make it competitive.
