Cockpit view, approach and landing, Innsbruck Austria

  • One of the most amazing approaches I have ever flown. Downwind leg is just above the mountains. A few minutes later, we are established on final. Still have to overfly these snow covered slopes before diving into the valley on a 4 degree glidepath. Hard to believe that somewhere in this valley, below this thick cloud layer lies an airport...

    I love my little home airport :-)
    It takes 35 minutes to get to Frankfurt and from there you can fly anywhere in the world. Hopefully there will be Innsbruck airport after Covid.

      I live in Innsbruck and have flown Innsbruck - Frankfurt v.v. many, many times. Only 35 minutes? LOL! More than an hour is correct.

    Was on a ski trip flight there 3 or 4 years back landing in thick fog wheels down etc just about to touch land when the engines roared into life, the nose pointed to the heavens and whoosh accelerated straight up into clear blue skies, brilliant, we diverted to Linz for a couple of hours then after apologies from the captain finally landed back at Innsbruck, Austria fantastic place for ski hols... 😷

      Indeed there is always an altitude at which we have to switch from instruments to visual. Either you can see enough to land, or you don't and have to go around...

    Yes of course, we was in the valley, ready for work. I fondly remember my on the time as we performed the C-Checks nose to tail on the Luxair Q400's. Thanks for the video and many happy landings! (Ex Tyrolean Technik Member)

    I have just come back from Innsbruck and even as a passenger you can tell it's a challenge for pilots. He put it down pretty hard on the outbound flight (dark and cloudy) so I think he was a bit late seeing the runway. It's a really steep climb out too - what's the procedure for an engine failure on takeoff at INN?

    I believe only less that 20 pilots in the world are qualified to fly into Innsbruck as it's so dangerous.
    Wondering if that is fact.
    Great video and flying .Bravo!

    • @Antonius2781
      @Antonius2781 4 года назад +2

      no, Innsbruck is not so dangerous. But it´s correct that you need a special training. It gets tricky in strong south-winds

    • @MrBizteck
      @MrBizteck Год назад +2

      It requires training but I can tell you there are a hell of a lot mot than 20 pilots qualified to land there.

    I have done this flight and the plane I was on had 15 people in
    Because it was so small me being a 6 foot 5 man had to move to the back so the plane could take off
    The flight was terrifying as there was awful turbulence coming through the mountains
