Another great video. I've had my FJR for a couple of months and I always watch your videos before I do anything on the bike. Thanks for the time that you put into these.
I don't even own an FJR and still watched the whole video. Very well done. Thank you for showing people how to do things with such clarity and amazing detail.
Another great video Bryan. You've saved us FJR owners hundreds of dollars by giving us the confidence to take on maintenance tasks ourselves. Cheers to you!
Replaced the plugs today and had to run in to the house to watch this video to get the confidence to stick a socket that deep into the engine. Thanks for your help!
I really appreciate all of your videos on the FJR.... ive never been into working on vehicles but it cost a fortune to have a bike worked on so ive been doing things myself with the help of your videos
I just stumbled across this older video. Your videos make me consider getting a FJR... I'm a Honda man and ride a very early (1990) ST 1100 daily (except when there is ice on the roads). I simply love this bike. Yet it feels more like a car than a bike. In most of the FJR reviews I read that it has a more sporty character. Yet especially ex ST riders do mention the higher centre of gravity. How to experience this? I got myself a 1 owner, very low mileage XJ 900S Diversion. A bike Yamaha primarily created for the European market. In line 4, only top fairing. I like the engine, it is so much more a motorcycle engine than the ST's V4. I like the simplicity: naked, air cooled. I'm a relatively old guy and this is how bikes used to be. I dislike indeed the high centre of gravity. It has a 22 liter fuel tank and you notice the difference when it is full. No such thing on the ST... It is early days for my Yamaha so the jury is still out. Thank you for your excellent videos!
does everyone agree with the 8000 mile change stated in the manual? (2015). Thanks for the video, was dreading it and got it done, hands tired from pulling the caps off and all the fasteners. The old plugs not bad at 8k miles but the new did look much better. I think one reason for the 8k change is not letting plugs sit in there too long, they may never come out again.
Don't know, but I pretty much keep my RPMs at or below 50% max so I can't imagine my plugs are worn out at 8K. I changed at 15K and again at 30K. Fuel economy still good, no running issues.
Been putting off tinkering with my bike due to missing or tired old tools. Thanks, got new enthusiasm to bo update my toool box and get stuck in ;-) I reckon the slow idle on warm start up is due to either throttle sync or plugs, can't wait to find out. (31,000 miles)
Bryan, Your mechanical maintenance instruction videos are excellent. Were you ever a teacher by trade? You make the business of maintenance clear and motivational by encouraging the average person with limited mechanical experience that it can be accomplished. I will be changing spark plugs and a throttle body sync on my FJR1300ES on Monday. I believe i can do it but just in case I have a mechanical engineer friend with an FJR to support me when i do the job. :)
Like the video thanks. I have to change my plugs this weekend its finally running a little "ratty". never changed the plugs yet in this bike 07' FJR 136,500 miles. The bike has been ridden hard and only required tires (8K-12K), brake pads (3K-4K), oil change 10K it took that long to get dirty, timing chain tensioner upgrade. and Fork seals I used to have a wheelie problem.. :-) ...
Good point, my 2014 has 31,000 miles on the clock. A lot of people are precious about things like changing plugs, the bike runs fine, maybe a little slow idle when started from warm tho!
Thanks for the video. All of these are extremely helpful. Only problem I got was that my spark plug socket getting stuck (disconnected from extension) in the chamber on #1 plug. Maybe my socket is on the fatter side but it is a pretty close tolerance and it takes a little bit of force to get in/out. Took me close to an hour to get it out. I then taped the socket to my extension and the remaining 3 were a breeze.
Wedge a piece of paper or electrical tape in between the socket and extension. This also can be used when you have to put a bolt or nut in that you can't start with your hand. usually the paper works better and then just falls away afterwards. They do make special extensions that lock on sockets. Waste of money for a home enthusiast.
Hi My friend, do You have a vídeo about how change the brake fluids in model 07, and something about abs purge un fjr 04, I appreciate You valuable help. Thanks, I send a tequila bottle later...
Well I changed the plugs on my Gen 1 (03) and it took me over two hours from start to finish. One of the rubber lugs on #4 spark plug boot broke off :( . I don't think they had ever been changed and it has done 40,000 km (10,000 mine)...Just slow and steady and plenty of patience (and spare leads from the wreckers incase). The plugs 3 dark brown and #4 was sooty black :(
My 2013 FJR is shuddering at low RPMs. I have tried the fuel injector cleaners and switching to 93 octane with no change. I am not able to find a reference on changing the fuel filter. 23K miles with original plugs. Hopefully you can help keep me from loading the parts cannon.
Is syncing the throttle bodies a regular thing that needs to be done? What are the symptoms implying it’s needed? I have a ‘05 and it runs great. Gonna do the plugs soon so was wondering how hard the syncing is.
Ok m8 thanks I get my 2015 AS next week looking to trick it up as it all black we can only get the AS in brown gray and black can't get a gray one till June so it had to be black .
Do you recommend using anti-seize on the plug threads ?? www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/lubricants/specialty-lubricants-anti-seize/permatex-anti-seize-lubricant-detail
was wondering whether those fancy plugs do anything. I've never bought any always just use the stock NGK or whatever. Good to know that they don't do anything other then empty your wallet...thanks
Dude, I have saved so much money following your videos. I stopped taking my bike in and I do everything now.
Another great video. I've had my FJR for a couple of months and I always watch your videos before I do anything on the bike. Thanks for the time that you put into these.

Thank you doing my plugs for the first time on the fjr tomorrow .

Once again, you've done a brilliant job in showing us how to do this sort of maintenance. Thanks!
Thanks for the good tips in your video. I replaced my FJR plugs.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Glad it helped
Crystal clear and comprehensive, many thanks !
Glad it helped!

Even when you think you know it all if you listen hard you sometimes hear some great advice, much appreciated.
Great video! I just bought a used FJR and I've learned allot from watching this video. Thank you.
I am new to your site. I just bought an FJR with 30K miles.
Thanks
Thanks for the comment on testing all types of plugs. I was about to buy Iridium plugs at $19 each, (in Canada), and now won't bother. Great videos!
Nice Job. Saved me some money along with throttle body synchro. Looking forward to the valve adjustment when you're ready.

Thanks so much. Great job. Mine is 2009, how many miles should I ride before I change mine.
tnx for the nice video.i got same days ago fjr1300 2002 model..is the same way to change sparks? or other things i see in your videos?

Question... Do you recommend the use of anti seize lubes on the spark plug threads? If not, why?
What is the size and type of the socket to use for the tank mount bolts?

What size Allen hex tool did you use to remove the 2 screws holding the front of the tank down?
Great video. It helped me change the plugs in my 2010! Thanks!!

That's certainly not normal, yep try a better socket.
+TwoWheelObsession I checked and my socket is about 0.5mm thicker than a new one from harbor freight. Thanks again for all of your help

Nice!! I had the shop do my last set thinking it would be like heart surgery. Looks like I can do it myself next time. Thanks for the great video.

Thanks for your videos, you really explain everything in detall. Super
The fjr has a very good spark plug wrench in the bike s toolkit. it retains the plug

Perfect , tellement triste de ne pas avoir pu apprendre l'anglais à l'école. J'essaie cette semaine. 😉🤞
Hey ik this is an old video but i hope you respond. How would i do this to swap out my starter? My FJR needs a new starter.
That takes extensive tear down as it's a very rare part to fail. Google fjr1300 starter replacement there are some good write ups on the forums
Awesome vid guy you are a master!
Great videos Mike really appreciate your time!

That's usually the throttle position sensor
Amazing information from you. Always, thank you
Is syncing the throttle bodies a regular thing that needs to be done? What are the symptoms implying it’s needed? I have a ‘05 and it runs great. Gonna do the plugs soon so was wondering how hard the syncing is.
Yes. It’s in your owners manual. Fjr is every 4k miles. Vibration.
TwoWheelObsession thank you!! Your videos are great by the way.
So what is the gap for the plugs. Also why not anti seize it will make life easier the next time they get changed also less chance for corrosion.
You can use it if you wish. I have never needed it but it can't hurt. Gap on an fjr is .7-.8mm
If you are using NGK plugs, they come from the factory with antiseize already applied (invisible). DO NOT apply additional antiseize.

These how to videos are GREAT.. Thx
Nice video man!

I love your videos. Thankyou
Thank you 😊
Отличные видео, молодец. Thanks!
Great video!
Thank you for advice, very helpfull. My FJR 2003 and a little easier
You're the Man.
I have 16000 mi, never touch the original sparck, next week end I will change them, Thank!
Thank you so much!
Bry would you consider fitting mirror turn signals ? like this guy has : ruclips.net/video/fTJLVqITxgU/видео.html
Brian Mabbett No need IMO especially on GenIII. The signals are very easy to see.
Ok m8 thanks I get my 2015 AS next week looking to trick it up as it all black we can only get the AS in brown gray and black can't get a gray one till June so it had to be black .
Looks cool!!! found any one tutorial on how to do it? I am not sure where to tap the power from.
