- It's very hard to put into words the emotions one feels when one encounters an elderly homeless person living on a sidewalk in a bad neighborhood. Miss Katie is 80 years old. No one should live without adequate housing, but it's heartbreaking to see somebody like Miss Katie on the sidewalk with nowhere to go.
My favorite part of this interview was when Miss Katie saw my knees hurting and gave me some Styrofoam padding to put underneath my knees. I am always blown away by the compassion and generosity of people who have nothing. Our world would be such a better place if the people who had everything cared about their homeless neighbors.
Miss Katie is 80 years old and has been outside for a very long time. She's also staying in a very bad area that shapes her perceptions. I can't even imagine what she must go through every single day just to survive.
The crisis of elderly homelessness is a pressing societal issue characterized by an increasing number of elderly individuals finding themselves without stable housing. Factors such as inadequate retirement savings, rising healthcare costs, and the lack of affordable housing options have contributed to this growing problem. As the population ages and life expectancy increases, coupled with economic challenges and a shortage of supportive services, more seniors are at risk of experiencing homelessness. This crisis underscores the urgent need for comprehensive policies and support systems tailored to address the unique needs of elderly individuals, ensuring they have access to affordable housing, healthcare, and social services to prevent and alleviate homelessness among this vulnerable population.

Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.

I live 13k miles away, or I'd help her, though I ive soley on a small old age pension. So grateful for all I have. Jesus please help this lady with her financial needs. Thank you Lord.

Some of Elderly don't have families OR the families DON'T care about them AT ALL. We need Elder Abuse attorneys in CA. We HAVE NONE.

This is off topic, but she looks much younger than 80 years old. It's heartbreaking to see homeless people in general, but elderly are especially vulnerable. This is too sad and unbearable 😢.

It's very possible she's 80. Her mind seems intact. I completely believe her. Without connections or an honest understanding of the system, anyone can end up on the street. She's not an addict or alcoholic, im.sure things will even out for her..keep her face on RUclips and TELL HER STORY!!

Most of that "$400 billion" is spent on processing the migrants through the legal system and, in many cases, deporting them. That's not money being used to feed and house "migrants" instead of "American" homeless. The thing is that we are one of the richest countries in the world. We should be able to help homeless people AND fund the system that deals with illegal immigrants. I suppose, if the homeless community could provide as many perks for politicians as oil companies and business CEOs do, a lot more would be done to help them. Sadly, the politicians are too busy pitting the low income against the poor while padding the wallets of themselves and their friends.

💯 that's a fact about homeless people I wish more people would acknowledge and accept. The reality ia that while there are some that are truly dealt a bad hand (myself included) most homeless people are on the streets as a direct result of their own poor choices or karma and they don't wish to repent.

Homelessness is Horrific...horrific for everyone... it is such a human travesty for each and every human life! These fellow citizens are not reaching any of their potential and that loss is against all of us, against our entire civilization.
How actually civilized are we, with this sea of humanity hoping to exist on a piece of sidewalk, having to relieve themselves in bushes while our pets have fancy doggy parks?
There is something really wrong with this picture. Our own people, viewed as not even worthy to have a roof over their heads, being ignored in these despicable circumstances or worse, even being viewed as vermin?
Our fellow American citizens and even our veterans have no shelter and it seems very little hope of getting shelter. None to very little, housing for low income or homeless seems to be, being built anywhere, in any city, in America? Yet, their are many commercial buildings sitting empty in America, that could be appropriated for housing citizens.

The pandemic increased homelessness and victimized so many people who were already struggling.

Wish I could have interviewed her longer. It was a bad area and it was getting nighttime. My knees were killing me, but I can live with. What I was concerned about is bringing attention to a vulnerable old woman on the streets. I always people safety over everything. That’s what differentiates us from RUclipsr. We put people before the video. Hope that makes sense.

Just to clarify, while charity is important, because people need food and clothes, charity solved a social crisis. A GoFundMe will make the donors feel better, but it won’t help this woman get off the streets. She needs rent and basic needs covered, and a GoFundMe will not provide that
There are , however, elderly, homeless people in your community and every community. Everyone reading this can take action in their own community to prevent and solve homelessness. That’s far better than any GoFundMe ever will be.

There is help for the endangered elderly, IF they will take it. Some prefer the street to a Medicaid nursing home. And "illegals" have access to emergency aid only.

I’ve always been proud of my country, but no more. We are helping those from other countries. Come here illegally, getting housing for them, though they’ve broken our laws, give them free breakfast, free lunch, educate their children, and this poor 80 year old woman who is a citizen is sleeping on the sidewalk. Great video, Mark. One suggestion, though. You need to stop with the “three wishes” thing. It comes off as insincere and like you’re pushing that gimmick for your channel more than telling the actual stories. And you often interrupt the person talking to ask for the wishes.

Even her former landlord need to be held accountable for her condition. I didn't hear if she had children or family, but all she needs is a warm, safe space with meals provided. God in Heaven, bless her.
