Josh he is talking about a vvl head conversion, its becoming very popular among sr20 builds, its the head that came off a jdm primera and pulsar vzr or jdm extrail, they have been tested and the stock heads off the vzr sr20ve pulsars outflow race ported sr20det heads, they have bigger ports, no rocker arms to break and a dual lobe cam which features 240 duration on low and 280 duration for high. If a stock vvl head can outperform a SR20det head, then you can imagine what a built vvl head can do. Just take a look at Pjs S13 and afew others that have the vvl head conversion making well over 600rwkw and revving to 10,000rpm. If you still have a det hesd youd be dreaming to make that kind of power and rev that hard without constantly breaking rocker arms
love SR20's and have one myself but actually didn't prefer the sound of most of the ones presented here. i like when they have a nice high pitch sound from a tubular manifold (or at least a non-stock mani; still not entirely sure what all combination of parts makes the sound) Perfect example that i promise is worth the effort to copy/paste to view: watch?v=SKWJGHeOEJ0

Bit of advice, I originally used a T3 GT3071R on a log mount thinking 450 hp was a good idea. The steep boost curve was stupid fun but for a street-able track car it was totally impractical. It made all it's power from 4500 to 7500, and even with a top notch tune it was like trying to finesse an ill tempered screaming monkey around corners. I finally swapped it with a T3 GTX2867R and running it on e85. Although it still has a very pissed off screaming monkey under the hood, now he's perfectly reasonable and far more cooperative. My $.02 worth Best of luck on your goon project.
Depends. I have a serial DEH and sock Nissan declared it 150bhp. No turbo or cooling. But honestly I think you can make it 170. With small changes maybe.
Swipez agreed to an extent, with a stock manifold on them they sound like tractors, with an aftermarket tuned length manifold they sound much better and if they have a vvl head on them they sound great
WraithDeath i run a powertune steampipe manifold with twin 38mm wastegates, 6262 and 3.5' dump all the way through to a varex cannon all of which is stainless apart from the mani and dump. sounds fine to me. on a less than average motor though, straight pipes on an sr sound like shit

Josh not always but if you keep rev the engine to the limiter you probably end up doing that. In regular use they are really strong engines.
