I think Season 6 has some of the best episodes, because the writing was so strong and self-aware. They were doing different things with familiarity and it was fresh but comfortable.
What a great episode. Almost as great as the new Honda 2020 CR-V with its ample cargo and passenger room, a plethora of soft-touch materials, a new infotainment system, and a whole host of new upgraded options. You guys are are such amazing reactors. You pump out these episodes with such enthusiasm. Like the same enthusiasm I have for the the new turbocharged powertrain in the CR-V that gets you where you need to go. And you make me feel taken care of. The only time I feel safer is when I think of how the Honda CR-V is an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Thanks Normies. You're the Honda of reactors!
So the story of this episode is that Subway basically saved season 3 of Community with it’s funding, which is something Dan Harmon was eternally thankful for leading to the subway episode in season 3. During season 6, Subway had a marketing agreement with Honda because of some kind of product tie in and Dan Harmon, who felt indebted to Subway, made this episode.
Season 6 is fantastic, but no one really watched it because it was on the worst streaming platform ever created and therefore it doesn't get the love it should.
The fact that Yahoo blames Community for the failure of their streaming platform is such nonsense. Season 6 was fantastic, but the streaming platform itself had the most counter-intuitive interface of any platform ever designed. Also, the programming was janky as hell. When streamed on a Roku, the advertisements failed to play like 90% of the time. And don't get me wrong, I do prefer to watch shows without commercials, but seeing how the commercials were how Yahoo was supposed to be making it's money.... that basically means they designed a player that failed to collect revenue during the launch of their flagship program. TL;DR - I agree with Aro N. Community season 6 was awesome, but Yahoo utterly failed to build a functional streaming platform.
Worst ever from an investor's point of view. From my point of view it was the absolute best; completely free and ad free at the same time. No other streaming service has ever had the balls to just burn through startup cash like that. Best...platform...ever.
I think season 6 is some of their best work, actually. It's amazing to me that the show could not only survive but even thrive while shedding original cast members. And every new addition they brought in nailed it: Hickey, Duncan (not so new), Elroy, and Frankie were all amazing.
Since most of you guys forgot about Subway The Character from Season 3, you probably also forgot the butt-joke that it inferred. The original episode with Subway was called Digital Exploration of Interior Design, and in the episode it's hinted that Britta and Subway The Character were doing some nasty-nasty, and so based on the title of the episode you can figure that she put a finger up his pooper (Digital, meaning digits like the digits of your finger, Exploration of Interior Design has to do with that Digit exploring his butt). So in this episode, Rick (Formerly Subway) tells Britta that she touched him in ways no one else has and Leonard walks by and goes, "Nice!" because they're doing a callback to that butt-finger. Also Lisa Loeb plays the lead singer of Natalie Is Freezing, a fake band that kind of riffs on Lisa Loeb's style. Also Bon Jovi is a real person.
Always enjoyed the joke “Subway cannot stand for that and, frankly Rick, I’m surprised you did”. So whatever they did (probably what you explained) he was standing up for it.
The Billy Zane stuff I thought was some of the funniest parts of season six to me. Glad to see you guys enjoying the season because it’s really underrated!
There were more than three episodes, Subway was featured twice and the second time was in a two parter. So there were three episodes with Subway in them, so with Honda and KFC there were 5 episodes that featured advertising in that way (though I would understand only counting 4 of them, since the first episode of the Subway two parter didn't have that much Subway in it and well, it was a two parter)
Sunk cost fallacy. Your brain makes you think it's just as good so it doesn't have to feel bad for the time wasted on subpar media. Arrow and Flash fans know the feeling as well.
Britta's parents are the best because they love boardgames and her Mom played Ms. Scarlet and her Dad played Col. Mustard in the Clue (based on the boardgame) movie in the 80s.
Fun fact, Canonically, Britta was molested by a drifter in a dinosaur costume hired by her parents for her birthday party when she was younger. The reason she hates her parents is because apparently her parents then took the side of the molesting drifter when she told her parents.
One of my favorite things about this reaction is that even though Rana completely loves the Dean, when Frankie is tearing into him Rana doesn't defend him at all, she just feels bad for the Dean hearing the truth.
Registering my interest here Suraj! I love your Community episodes. I always look forward to getting home after work on a Friday and being able to enjoy my favourite show of all time through you guys. Keep it up (for the remaining few episodes that is). Also, this re-watch of Season 6 has improved my perception of it quite a bit. It's better than I remembered.
The way these sponsored episodes (like Subway in season 3) happen is Community will hear ask companies if they’d be willing to potentially sponsor an episode, and then if yes they write the script for it. If Honda/Subway/whoever gives them the go ahead for the script they make the episode. Harmon’s rule is that the companies can have no input on what they write, which is why they were able to make Subway a villain. The KFC space episode was going to be Dr. Pepper until they pulled out because Harmon wanted to use their old logo.
This was around the time some companies really embraced the whole "even bad press is press" idea and seemed to occasionally sponsor something that totally trashed them
This might be the same as my order, too. 6 and 3 are sorta interchangeable, they're pretty similar to me. 1, 2, 5, and 4 are in the same order I'd have them in.

You used pretty sloppy logic here, if the views go down it’s not admitting people are here for the show, people want to see people react to things they like. They’re still here for the reactors but why would they want them to watch something they don’t themselves enjoy.

Season 6 was the worst season
This ep has the best Frankie scene in the series
Honda sponsored the 6th season, so that's why they got a whole episode
I think season 6 is some of their best work, actually. It's amazing to me that the show could not only survive but even thrive while shedding original cast members. And every new addition they brought in nailed it: Hickey, Duncan (not so new), Elroy, and Frankie were all amazing.

Man that look that Chris gave Rana after the bald comment at 8:14 is hilarious.
Season 6 is one of my favorites!
3, 2, 1, 6, 5, 4
For me: 3, 2, 1, 5, 6, 4 (some episodes were good in that season).
I love how in the 3 episodes that have product placement, the advertisers are always the villains. KFC, Subway, and Honda

Jon Bon Jovi originally John Bongiovi
