An interesting thing about Superman Returns being too nostalgic is that Superman 1978 itself felt kind of nostalgic, at least respectful to, the older versions and yet in a way that was (and still is) also new, modern-enough, timeless.

i didnt grow up in the 80's but Christopher Reeve is definitely my favorite, because when i was 6, i sold my wiggles movies for the original superman movie with Christopher Reeve cause i thought i was all grown up, but i thought it was the coolest thing, and it stuck with me for years

I didn’t even watch the original movie until this year, in my mid-20s, and yet Christopher Reeves is my favorite live-action Superman. He just radiates so much charisma and knowing the actor’s story made me understand that Christopher Reeves WAS Superman to the very end of his life.
The bit in superman 3 when superman fights bad superman is classic.

Just watched the original Superman (1978) last night and it made me think of you. I enjoyed it. I'm going to check out Superman II today.
I feel like shazam is bringing back that superman 1978 kind of film to the mainstream while adding darker undertones that proves that people still like these bright, positive, big heart superman films. Just with a tad more action. And I totally agree with the richard dinner being underrated. Hes a fantastic director.

In the extended version of Superman II, it is revealed that Superman destroys The Fortress of Solitude after the final huge fight of the movie. So, for The Fortress of Solitude to suddenly appear whole in Superman IV doesn’t make sense. But, back then, continuity was not nearly as strictly observed as it is now.
I grew up with Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill. So those 2 have to be my favourite. And Ray Palmer is my favourite legend. Don't care if he left!

You absolutely must watch S2 The Richard Donner cut especially since you loved the first one. The Donner cut is not a sequel but rather it is the two hour conclusion to SUPERMAN the movie.

At the moment, that is my plan for next Saturday. I actually started putting them in order and looking up the Rotten Tomatoes scores about an hour ago. However, there's three of them I haven't seen PLUS Cars 3. So I have some homework to do to be able to get it done on time.

You nailed it with Superman the movie. The influence that it has and have had on superhero movies is so apparent. The way Richard Donner and the crew, cast did the first 2 movies still today has so much significance in the modern superhero movies, be it DC, marvel or even the films based on less known comics and graphic novels. It's such a shame after Donner left the studio and producers just didnt know what to do with the property they had. History would repeat itself a decade later with the 4 batman films. But the first 2 sup films hold up really well for being so old. They have aged really good. Outdated, yeah just a little bit. But still watchable and enjoyable.

Yeah I think they've done a good job of casting him. I feel weird picking a favorite because I feel they've done a great job casting Superman for the movie they were making each time. Henry Cavill would be horrible in Superman 1978, but Christopher Reeve wouldn't fit in Man of Steel either. They each fit the movie they're in.

As I grew up with Christopher Reeves’s Superman, he has a special place in my heart and will always be the number 1 Superman for me. As you said Superman 3 has kinda mixed comedy genre into the Superman universe but that movie has it’s own ups like casting Annette O Toole as Lana Lang and the kryptonite thingy that turns him insane. Christopher Reeve and Annette O Toole has so much deep chemistry and I admit I like their chemistry better than Lois and Clark.

In the early 80’s(maybe 1982) Richard Pryor appeared on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson. Then, Richard said he would like to be in Superman III. Ilya Salkind saw that interview and cast Richard based on that.

Number 8 I would stick in Supergirl instead as it was from the same production company and it was a guilty pleasure , Its bottom due the fact it wasted a fantastic cast .
I thought about including Supergirl, but it doesn't actual feature Superman...and that fact made it so I could have an excuse not to rewatch it.
Actually the real thing for me is that Salkinds and the studio didn't feel the need to include it in their Superman box sets. So I don't feel the need to watch it and include it in my video.
So the makers of Superman were embarrassed by Supergirl it made Helen Slater who I thought at the time was english ,due to her accent a household name .
Also on the making off Helen Slater had drinks with the late Christopher Reeve as he was making Superman 4 on the same lot. Its a a guilty pleasure and its looks dated now but in the 80's it was trying to open up that comic book universe, but with money problems and a ropey script it flopped

Sweet. So interesting the way different people see these same movies so different.
If WB wouldn’t have bitched out after the backlash of BvS then you would have gotten your more traditional and optimistic and hopeful Superman during Justice League and his solo film afterwards. That was Zacks plan the entire time. He had a 5 film universe that he was given the rights to create and then the studio turned it into a 3 film franchise to which they then fired him and didn’t even let him finish JL. You were supposed to be given a 3 film character developed Superman that gave you everything you were asking for. Man of Steel is his literal first day on the job and he gets attacked by Zod and his army. He’s a rookie in a coming out story. BvS is about the consequences of his courage where people are scared and fearful of him even though all he wants is to be a hero. Then JL was supposed to conclude that character after he sacrificed himself for a world that half way didn’t want him there. So all in all, fuck WB is what I guess I’m saying lol

You might be surprised but superman returns was my second favorite superman movie in theaters because i also grew up with this and makes me feel like i'm watching the original.

Superman 2, 1, 3, Man Of Steel, BVS, Superman Returns, and Superman IV! Of course! Chris Reeves is my Superman as well! I remember when Quest for Peace came out in 87' , they actually opened a Superman museum in Cleveland with the phone booth, black and white Superman suits along with the traditional red, blue, and yellow suits. My family and I actually saw Superman 3 in theaters! I can only remember pieces of seeing it in the theaters like the robot lady, Clark vs Evil Superman, and Richard Pryor falling off the roof in skates. I'm sorry I really like Superman 3! My mother ordered Superman IV off "Viewer's Choice" back in 88', and I remember thinking it was so "GOOD", LOL! I use to rent Superman 3 from the video store all the time when i was a kid.
I used to checkout the sound track from Superman III from the library all of the time. SO I know all of the songs from that movie way too well. But I don't think I'd seen the movie. So I was always wondering why Superman was carrying someone. Haha
RIP Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. Now they can fly together again in heaven

Even though I didn't grow up in the 80's or the 90's I still love the Christopher Reeves Superman movies and Henry Cavill is great and I'm very curious to see what they do with him in the Snyder Cut but I have not seen or heard of Superman and the mole men 😂
here's mine with thoughts a plenty...
1)Superman 2
from the start to the end it excells..the romance appeals between Louis and Clark/Superman.. the struggles he faces and the ultimate battle with Zod and his minions mano o mano is epic action fantasy which is hard to duplicate now with Cgi and all.
2)Superman the movie.. Reeve's Superman is undisputed and this movie is testament to that.. good storytelling but i don't quite fancy Lex having a doofus for an assist and living underground.
3)Superman 3
minus the rich bad guy.. i quite enjoy the idea of the movie and the personality battle between the two Supes is great.
Guilty pleasure goes to Superman 4..
Superman Returns i love it but i hate it too..costume color and what is on with Lois being much younger and the chemistry between Clark and her is just not there.. nice action scenes though.
I can't put myself to watch any of the Cavill's Superman as that scales fish like costume being tight and glossy just turns me off..😀

I grew up in the 80's. I've seen all the Superman movies. Henry Cavill is the best Superman and most believable. Henry Cavill is definitely the best actor of all the Supermans. Man of Steel is the best Superman movie ever made.

I quite distinctly remember getting nightmares because of Nuclear Man, and having a big nightmare because of it, and sleeping on the floor of Mom and Dad's room.

Batman v. Superman is still stupid. Only redeeming thing about it are the Batman/Alfred scenes and Wonder Woman.
I struggled with Superman Returns because they pushed the whole messiah thing a bit too much in the ads.
You haven't seen the Richard Donner cut!?!?!? I bought it the day it came out!!!!!! I have multiple copies of it. I use them as frisbees and cup holders.
Amazingly enough in many ways I'm a bigger comic book fan than he is, or I'm a bigger fan of specific heroes, and he never really got into DC until meeting me, and so we didn't end up getting that one.
