Great stuff! It’s cool how John didn’t rest on his laurels after winning Grammys, but he went back to his roots, the blues. He could’ve just settled for being a solid guitar player and good songwriter, but he took a chance with the Trio, and it elevated him as a musician.
This is great, thanks for sharing this interview! 4:31 I have the 2004 JM Berklee Clinic audio on my channel that Mr. Fujita references, pretty cool stuff, it was the elusive first clinic John Mayer did back at Berklee (before the well known 2008 one)
Man, it’s quite common to see teachers with extensive knowledge of music or the instrument, but aren’t all that great players. So even if what you said were true, there wouldn’t be a problem with that. HOWEVER, Tomo is far from that. The guy is a funk/blues machine, with insane personality and precision on his playing.
i dont believe any of this... How can a teacher remember a random ass student many years later who was there for 6 months? And taking credit for him dropping out... really? Strange kind of teacher at a college..
John Mayer is not a "random ass student" and also this all happened in just a couple years. The video explains they had a close relationship as many great people have had with their own mentors. Berklee is not a lecture hall with 1000 students.
Funny you should say that, i actually studied guitar at Berklee for 4 years. There seems to be a lot of distrust of other guitar department faculty to Tomos John Mayer project
this is absolute GOLD!! Thank you for sharing this incredible clip. Teaches us so much about John before we even knew him.
Thanks man! I'm glad it helps
I really appreciated this. Thanks so much for making it available ❤
Glad it was helpful!

Just another reason for me to admire him :)
"Neon was born just because he could not imitate Tomo's slapping technique" 🤣🤣
Now that's some swagger !!
I couldn't believe it!
this is one of the best music videos I ever watched
Thanks bud! Means a lot
Very Nice interview. Thank you.
Thanks, bud. Glad you liked it
smiling for 9 minutes straight is impressive

If John Mayer is Bruce Lee. Then Tomo is IP MAN! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Loved it hahaha
you mean Wong Shun Leung 黄淳梁 😁
Rapaz, que foda, irmão! Parabéns! Que papo excelente! O Tomo é o bicho!
Obrigado, fico feliz que tenha gostado! :)
Great video!
Thanks, Chris! I appreciate it
Playing the Dead repertoire well is not that easy. John does it well. That's where he grabbed my attention.
What do mean with "Dead repertoire"?
@@Vilelavolume11 John has been playing with Dead & Company the last few years. A recent incarnation of the Grateful Dead.
He does the Jerry Garcia material justice.
I respectfully disagree. He does not do Garcia justice, but I love that he loves Garcia.
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
So cool :)
Thanks, Will!
over the top
Care to explain?
🙇♂️💓🍀🎶 🤘😃
:)
John Mayer plays hoops around Tomo and I don’t even particularily like Mayer’s playing

Cmon we all know George Benson is #1
He is one of the many #1’s! In music we can have many of them :)
Bruce Hornsby, after commercial $uccess and much accomplishment, re-learned PIANO. No popular piano players can measure up to BH ability.
Gonna go have to listen to him :)
It’s not like he’s Pat martino or something, c Mon
He's one of the main references in pop/blues
should have clued him about Narcissism..
Youre fun at parties
What makes you say that? Were you there to see if it happened or not?
@@Vilelavolume11theyre saying that because he's clearly a narcissist! Pretty easy to say spot.

I'm guessing if it's a story that ends up being extremely relevant on the music scene worldwide, he'd remember.
Tomo is a standup guy with a great memory. He's not making any of this stuff up.
