What a pity this series was shackled to Columbo coz without all that it’s actually pretty good, Kates kickin ass and taking names and saving herself, these are not complex crimes but she makes a good detective, does a better job of investigating than the cops do.
Indeed! I'm sure this series had survived if they hadn't connected it to Colombo...a strong female character solving crime, was still new to TV back then.
Better fit - Kate Mulgrew as Jenny Columbo, following in her famous dads footsteps. It would make the problem of the absentee Peter Falk easy to solve. Lili Haydn should absolutely play Columbos granddaughter.
This makes way more sense than the casting here. She doesn't make any sense as Columbo's wife. And she (Kate) would certainly not be the housewife in the background that is portrayed in the episodes of Columbo when she's ever mentioned.
Though the acting inproved, there is still no explanation to Mrs. Colombo suddenly reporting on crime in a local advertising paper nor when and how Mr. Colombo disappeared out of her life.
Probably after the Columbo franchise said they weren't interested in cross-casting the shows! 😁 I always thought she did a GREAT job of playing a 30-something wife and mother, but NOBODY as young as she was then could've.pulled off the role of 30-something wife and mother who would've stayed married to Columbo very long without some SERIOUS friction; & that was probably why few overtures were made about guest appearances between shows: references to "his wife" were such a constant in his show that THEY knew that even though she had talent GALORE, Kate wasn't going to be able to pull off the role if THAT WOMAN.
It’s kind of funny that Kate Mulgrew played a woman who was afraid of going to jail. Considering she later played a convict in Orange Is the New Black.
I was really disappointed that you had to show Kate Mulgrew in her fattened state and orange jumpsuit. I think beautiful women do not have to be exposed when life throws them a curveball. Life is not always pretty but why do we have to expose the crud ?
You're great for not advertising, allowing a peaceful view so I will like every one whether I do or not but soon after married, I changed my name back to Satterlee from Avery and it didn't cost a penny-- BULLSHIT. It was probably 5 months but time doesn't matter. TV's reality sucks; why I've never paid for it, watched much, never seen this before, and never been able to be brainwashed by the idiocy of religion. I HATE PEOPLE WHO CLICK so I won't watch it w/them either. HA... due to bullshit, It takes me forever to watch a movie or TV episode. At least, I don't have to fight advertising here. I'm getting to the point I won't even try to see something that may interest me if it has advertisement. I'd rather do anything else stoned.
Because it was supposed to be a spin-off. In season 1, she was supposed to be the never-seen wife of Detective Columbo. They quickly realized it wasn't working and had to distance this show from Columbo. There were several renamings involved: Kates Loves A Mystery, Kate the Detective. By season 2 she is divorced and thus is no longer carrying the Columbo surname, but Callahan. tl;dr It IS a Columbo spin-off, so it does have something to do with him, but they tried to sever ties with Columbo by season 2.
@@thekatecrusade5013 Divorcing was the mistake. Added intrigue when Colombo referred to his wife, and when Kate confirmed, giving stability to "family" for daughter.
Haven't got anything for you to su you would be wasting your time on that . Yes I am going to stay mad at you forever you should of fell out with me in the first place. Wrong person to of done that with
These old shows are good if you want a non- cerebral show to watch.. I've watched a few of Mrs.Columbo shows and the writing is not so great, just a lot of situation drama with no real action. The only good part in this episode was the jail scene.
So now, Joe, everybody's smart and binge on cerebral shows. A year later, what do you think now... loved Mrs. Colombo and Kate Loves A Mystery etc... family could watch, kids loved and all were safe. Not today... now we're really smart.
I really enjoyed this show, wished I could have seen her and Peter Faulk play these together.
I loved this show as a kid. She was smart, funny and a good mom. Series probably would have done better without the Columbo name.
mary gannon The Columbo tie in didn’t work, especially since Mrs. Columbo was was half Peter Fall’s age.

Kate Mulgrew has such beautiful blue eyes they just absolutely mesmerize me
they're hazel...
I take it back, they're blue in some scenes, but not all...
3:06 The tape outlines of where the bodies were is a great conversation piece....lol.

Of COURSE she does! She spent 10-15 years "shackled to Columbo!" 😀😂😁
Indeed! I'm sure this series had survived if they hadn't connected it to Colombo...a strong female character solving crime, was still new to TV back then.
Not really!
It should have been it would of had more episodes here
Wow, she had enough breath left at the end of the chase to chew him out, I guess she's in pretty good shape!

Yeah..if she was 10-15 years married and then reporter with a name...she must have been a child bride
This is really good, thank you

What I really want to know is, Did Kate ever find her sweater???
The police should have followed Kate and they could have found her source without her blabbing.
68,108 View's So Far: Saturday May 1 - 2021.
46:24 - should be "In Association with" Universal Television
So Kate Mulgrew was about 25 here...but she easily looks 10 years older.
that white mansion is beautiful
Loved this show. Cute as mrs Columbo. What idiot cancelled it ?
👍 Kate😉
VERY NICE 👍👍👍
44:01 she just left her friend lying on the ground???? lol
Withhilding the evidence? Jail? This can't be real.
When did she divorce Columbo to take back her maiden name

Since he was never around it was inevitable.
Could it get any dumber: They run out in the open so we all can see them being chased. Ridiculous
So that’s how red ended up at litchfield
Sorry, Kate, but Mike just saved your life by following you!! A little gratitude please ;)
All I could think the entire time she was in jail was Red Reznikov lol 😂 I love Kate

Was there only 5 shows in the first season? That is all I could find here.
Donna Chavez Yes, sadly the episodes I uploaded (13 in both seasons together) are all there is. 😉
"With every hour you die inside" - Kate Callaghan. Was she talking about jail or being a working woman in the 1980s?
What happened to Columbo? She could really use his common sense now and then.
I agree. The lapses of common sense in an otherwise quite smart woman are unbelievable.
the premise makes no sense. Putting someone in jail for someone else's contempt of court?
At 2:19. 19, up front and in your face.
Kate, that was really dumb, leading the killers right to her. Did you even think about it might be a trick?
So I take it Kate and Mr. Colombo got divorced since she got her maiden name back for $62.50
GAMBLING? In LOS ANGELES??? I am shocked.
Why didn't they make her cop friend her husband, Lt Columbo, but not that Lt Columbo?
Stupid ending. She didn't die because he was there. But how dare he follow her without her knowledge!!! Women should be insulted by that.
Little too cutesy for me. She’s entered the park expecting to meet someone and doesn’t see the woman sitting there?
I'm confused...is she still married to Lt. Columbo? why take her maiden name back?
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Where;s the daughter?

Why is this called Ms Columbo when it has nothing to do with him?
