      I have been paying $120 for over a year I think. Probably because we use a lot with 5 children and I'm online most of the time too. We use between 1 and 2 terabytes a month.
      It is really the only practical option we have. I live in southern MO, north end of Oregon county.

    • @theradioweyr
      @theradioweyr 4 месяца назад

      I was at $110 in May 2022 when I came online in Central Florida. Rates increased to $120 in MAY 2023, or one year ago.

      @Toom316 4 месяца назад +2

      The $120 was sadly the point I needed to make the switch off of Starlink. They within the last month finished running fiber county wide. The 1gig/1gig plan runs $109 with the base 200/200 plan be $65. So at $120 it was a no brainer to make the switch. I know of about 20 or so people in the county that have switched from Starlink over to the FTTH.
      I enjoyed my time with Starlink and I think its a great option when no others are offered. But the price to performance when other options show up just does not stack up sadly in our area now.

      Of course, the government states everything is fine and resilient economy. Then why all the debt and no savings. Credit card debt historic 1.3 trillion. Government 35 trillion in debt. 1.7 trillion deficit. How about surplus? Government took in 3.7 trillion in taxpayer dollars and spent over 6 trillion in 2023. Ouch!

    • @anthonylosego
      @anthonylosego 4 месяца назад

      I hear you saying they were lowering the price for where the Starlink had extra capacity on their system, but as I recall the narrative as of last year when they changed it, they gave the lower price to those with less competitor options. Meaning if they have only dial up, they would get cheaper rates, but if you have 6 providers going by with fiber and cable and you want Starlink, you have to pay for it. You seem to have it backwards.

  • @stevefuller8993

    I live in a very rural area where Starlink is the best option for me. If there is an increase I will have to pay. As far as I am concerned Starlink is the only company providing rural areas with true high speed internet. Our government give all of these telecom companies large grants for providing broadband infrastructure for rural areas, what a joke. I will stick with Elon and Starlink.

    I have been looking at Starlink for a few years to use at a cabin and and rv when I travel. The monthly roaming fee keeps going up and up, and the reception is poor in tree covered areas. The $150 per month just doesn't make sense as a second service. We have abandoned Starlink for a cellular option.

    Athens i pay 55€ the price in reality is 40€, i pay + 15 for the equipment. Europe will rise up more no matter if is very rear to find in Big city a spot. I was lucky and added it at 7th floor and the signal is clear sky full blue. As i know already in Germany T-Mobile will buy capacity to resell it, at Greece Is also the same to happen here By Cosmote one of our providers and the biggest. Someone insider told me that will be in packages 100mbps, 200mbps and more. I have back up internet 110mbps on landline. So if go up the price SpaceX losing me and sending the equipment back if needed, unless had it paid off. 25€ is the fiber at 1gbps. The reason i chose Starlink is because they cannot close only for me the full traffic road as leads to Hospital. I got bored with so many cancellations and postpones.

    Space X, Tesla motors, Tesla energy, etc., thinking way in the future not quarterly. Just like their car prices change almost daily they watch the economy and supply chains closely. Probably not much of a profit range with this new expensive technology. If Musk did not have his own reusable rockets there would be no Starlink.

Just marketing at its best, everybody else does this. Just set a price that everyone can afford, quit trying to stab people for future ventures. Be the company that helps everyone and affordable. Right now it's on the cusp of not affordable.

    With our terrible high inflation compounded yearly, I do not think prices will go down on anything. High interest rates mean paying more dollars to past debt with less dollars for further innovation. Really hurts companies carrying a lot of debt QE means inflationary pressures as it inflated the monetary supply. The government caused this. You can blame Putin’s tax or whatever but inflation is a side effect of printing money out of thin air, devaluating the dollar. As long as the government keeps printing money(overspending) and deficit spending horrible inflation will continue, sadly. Companies like Space X doing the best they can with expensive new technology.

      Exactly the same as I, Aug 2023, and $120. Starlink has been an amazing improvement to my life coming from windstream DSL, but it has an annoying problem every day at around 2-4am. It will have some kind of meltdown, when the system goes into restart mode or has some kind of downtime for a few minutes. It ranges from going offline completely for a few minutes to burping for a moment that kicks me offline my MMO games. According to one of them and the error code it gets, it's an error that only happens when your ISP is doing some kind of security check. But whatever I guess. Fiber line just got laid down at my home and am currently waiting for the ISP to contact me when it's my time in the que to get it installed to the house so it won't be long until I get the last internet I'll ever need.
      I just wish when I go to sell my used SL kit, I could sell everything else I did to install it. Rohn 25G tower(free, 27' tall). The hole I dug. The concrete I bought. Everything was like 2k to make SL happen the way I wanted it, no thanks to trees. But I still have the tower for a cell booster and radio, I guess? Debated throwing my DISH sats up there for a better view of the sky. I suffer signal loss from trees so I get like a 60% signal at best....

      Same, I'm in Indiana, and it increased from $100 to $120 something like a year ago. I typically get at or above 100 Mbps down, and the alternative is cellular or a local wireless service, both of which I've tried and got me garbage speeds and pings. Starlink is awesome for me.

It was over a year ago I can’t remember specifics. They were discounted to $90. Now those people will just have to pay the $120 like literally everyone else. It does not take a 15 minute video to figure it out. It’s not a mystery. It’s not a conspiracy. This video made me a little nervous at first. I'm remote rural.
    When I bought my Starlink in October of 2023, my monthly service price was declared at $120/month.
    Century Link was charging me just over $134/month for basically enhanced dial up speeds with DSL and constant (sometimes extended) outages.
    With the future deployment of the 4X satellites, I hope that an app will be developed where we can just install it on whatever phone we have and maintain whatever cell service have or prefer and connect to these new satellites in the future. T-Mobile is my enemy!
    I have a severe beef with T Mobile when they lied to us about service to our location and charged us $600 to cancel, after we moved here in 2006.
    I will not be bound to any contract hence, I use Cricket wireless. It's a rare day that I've ever had an issue with Cricket for about a decade now.
    Also, no cell signal at my location, unless I walk out to a couple of particular spots on my land, sacrifice a chicken while I'm standing on one foot to connect to the AT&T tower that's only a couple of miles away.
    I'm looking forward to the day where I can take my hand held computer/ phone anywhere on my farm.

    A delicate game they play. It seems like they almost want to push out all customers who have other options and concentrate and getting as much money as possible for others with no other choice. Rural choices are slowly improving with 5G mobile internet and WISPs improving capacity and speeds. Rural customers near me can get up to 100mbit service with WISP for $73 /month which is more than enough for most families in my opinion. I was a big fan of Starlink initially but $120 a month is steep.

    • @botiemaster3356
      @botiemaster3356 4 месяца назад +1

      ISPs have always taken advantage of rural America by making it pay way more for internet than city dwellers. There's steep competition in the city and people enjoy like 20 or 30 dollar broadband internet ffs. These ISPs are not broke. They have huge profits. And they stick it to us rural folk. As they wipe away their tears with hundred dollar bills while they justify their prices with the cost of getting internet to us, they are buying up other businesses to merge with or dissolve altogether to increase their profits further.
      SL continues this tradition but takes it to the next level - making us buy the equipment, install said equipment ourselves, AND charging us $120 < insert price here > per month while not even being a proper ISP because they want to avoid liability and legal problems and hurdles. And Elon thought there would be 20 million people to sign up for this in just the first year or two? lmao it might have happened if there wasn't that massive $500 pay wall in the way. Eat everything you can and when you finally break even, everything after that is money straight from the printer. It's a cash cow. It's a money tree. It's sitting there, ready to be claimed. But it never will be claimed as long as that $500 pay wall exists, and honestly do we want it to get claimed? We're having bandwidth problems at just 2 or 3 million users. I've been getting some terrible pixeled streaming video lately through out the day. The speed varies greatly from second to second. Wireless internet will always find a way to suck, from ISPs to your house WiFi.

    It's simple sumnaggery. The price increase was to customers with no viable choice ,rural customers. Lower prices for urban customers. It's a subsidy for urban customers. It is a 30% increase. The excess capacity isn't Starlinks capacity it total capacity meaning fiber is available. You can fair share all you want. It's taking advantage of monopoly on the customer base. Also now we are supposed to think $110 dollars is a price drop when its actually still $20 more expensive. Logic and math, what even is it?

So it may seem like "why gripe at threat of cost increase, you get it cheap anyway." The slight problem I have is that I'm about to purchase Starlink and all my calculations were based on current prices and the similar monopoly here that the Telcomm compaines such as MEO, NOS and Vodaphone here have in Portugal with poor coverage in the countryside. I guess if Starlink increase the prices here (at some point) we won't get a free upgrade to Gen 3 equipment either. Interesting times, I'll still go for Starlink I think as the serveice will still be far better than what I currently have.Thank you Joseph for your insight and evaluation I find it very useful👍👍👍
