- This is my new review on why Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, Tony Carey admired AC/DC and what they really thought about Bon Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young. My good old friend Shawn Staples from California helped me to narrate this story. I wrote this review using known facts. I don't just copy someone else's content but I use my intellect a lot for writing reviews. My stories and reviews represent a great value for guitar players, musicians and rock fans. I do my best to create original and interesting content. Hope you enjoy it guys!

Bon Scott is a fkn legend . He was a one of a kind original.
The most under rated rock vocalist
Acdc were the hardest working band in rock, relentless touring and putting out incredible albums at least 1 a year.
Interesting discussion. I personally prefer the Bon albums. Also, I listen to a lot of guitarists, but keep going back to Angus. There’s a kind of magic in his playing
Of course you and most people prefer the bon Scott years the g.o.a.t
@@trucker8666 Thanks. I think so. We met them on the Powerage tour in Bristol and watched their sound checks. They were really happy. Bon went on drums and Angus played jamming blues for ages. We got them to sign our jeans. Bon kissed my sister (both are passed away now). But magical memories 🎸
Me,ACDC died when Bon died. For proof watch let there be rock the movie. Its insanely good.Nothing in the BJ era comes close.
@@guy1900763 It’s quite an addictive film if I remember. Weren’t they driving a Porsche in a snowy field? And amazing live footage. Very precious memories

AC/DC...Greatest rock n roll band of all time period!!
🇦🇺🐨🦘 ‘70’s teen here...Bon was sooo loved by us. Guy’s a bloody legend, always was. Still devastated by his loss....and seriously, Aussie pub crowds were tough..nothing to do with how they looked..it was just hardcore, beer and brawls..the good old days.
Cozy Powell, what a quality drummer, absolute legend and secondly Jimmy Bain underrated bass player. Bon Scott my favourite DC vocalist
Bon is a legend in Australia ,but Dio has the voice of Zeus .Stare gazer gets me every time" my eyes are bleeding"!!!!!
Or "to see him flyyyyyyyy, but why?" I love that part
If you look at all the superstars Blackmore walked away from, fired or caused to leave you easily have the most talented musicians on the planet.
Ritchie is the Deal maker.. It's all about melody he stated
I think ritchie is bored easily n doesn't want things to get stale, that's why he says he forgets solo's someone who is that calculated n prone to practice doesn't forget u can't deny his great success with different bands with multiple line ups for 5 decades he's put out some kind of music at least every 18 months since then, he's just a moody wizard
Now he sits in his castle brewing his own beer and playing that ridiculous music with his bought and paid for wife 😎
Several times over
Yep, but he had his way of doing things, I think sometimes he was too creative and too eager to get his way and his vision out for his and the bands he leds best. But maybe much of the awesome music and the variety he produced would not have been made otherwise. His biggest mistake was loosing Dio in Rainbow. They could have easily ruled the 80s together.
Growing up, I was a huge fan of Jimmy Page, Richie Blackmore, John Fogerty, Joe Perry/Brad Whitford, Paul Kossoff, Ted Nugent, Ace Frehley, and many others, but the second I heard Angus and Malcolm, I was absolutely floored by how raw and powerful they were. That sound made me want to get a guitar and be loud and proud. My first impression of them on Don Kirshner's rock concert, was that they were a shitty punk rock band because they looked like dudes in a garage band, except for some spastic kid in a schoolboy outfit. They played "Sin City" and by the end of the song, I forgot about all the other bands I was listening to and became a huge fan which I still am to this day. I have had my own bands and we were loud, raw, and proud when we played. I have AC/DC to thank for that.
Yeah 8m the opposite loved back in black highway to hell couple others the rest same thing over and over after awhile of them I go back to purple rainbow sabbath priest Floyd 4 hours
That Sin City performance on Midnight Special was awesome.
Sincity is my.fav acdc song ...acdc just wipe the floor with other bands ...there will never be another Angus...I seen them live twice...and damn Angus works harder than anyone in the whole stadium
ACDC Is the real deal. Always have been...
Purple is straight up the real deal do is rainbow ufo sabbath priest triumph zep
@Bad Boys Boogie They are the best at what they do but honestly, I find them to be monotonous and uninteresting . I like to listen to them in small doses when I am in that mood.
Captain that's my list
@@TheHumbuckerboy gonna take a wild guess that you have only heard what is played on the radio
@@ii-wt7jqI am familiar with their classic Bon Scott era albums and I have owned several of what I regard as their best albums including Powerage and Back in Black but after For Those About to Rock there is only the odd quality song here and there amongst their catalogue IMO. Seems like they are always seeking to repeat the same approach over and over again which I find boring because it is so predictable.
I saw Rainbow live in '76, in fact it was the first rock concert I went to. And AC/DC did the first show. I remember I was blown away by their presence and live act. Blackmore was very moody that night. He wasn't moving at all and it was as if he was really not in the mood of playing. I think he was pissed off because AC/DC really stole the show. That said, I'm still a very big Blackmore fan until this day!
If you hire Bon Scott's AC/DC or Led Zeppelin to open the night and you have to follow that, it's not gonna go well for you lol
Bon, the frontman’s frontman
Angus, the crazy little schoolboy guitarist
Malcolm, rhythm genius
Add drummer, bass = timeless rock
You under estimate Phil Rudds drumming, he was an amazing drummer, his laid back feel gave the band that groove in the Bon days.. Its not easy to play less & that was what made Phil Rudd & ACDCs music so cool..
@@macisback9059 i think they meant the rhythm section is just spot on and even better than metronome
And very good, steady bass players too in Mark Evans and Cliff Williams.
I'd pay good money to see a video of AC/DC playing in a backwater Aussie pub!
The scene must have been akin to those old Western bar fight scenes :) ..but with more Rock+Roll!

Dated!! Compared to who? Different! Hell yeah. BTW, I used to see AC/DC at Chequers in Sydney back in the early 70's. Well, around 74. Saw them a few times with Dave Evans then Bon. Had a mate who was a good friend of Bons and used to drink with him up in Northbridge, Sydney. Never heard of them jumping out of windows in Sydney. Back then there was long hairs and Sharps. Maybe it was the Sharps fighting them in Melbourne where they ended up.
Here in Western Australia,Bon was known for being in Brawls and Bar fights. But by all accounts was the nicest guy you could meet. His only Downfall was he loved his booze. And paid the price. RIP BON.
Warm up band LOL ! Great story again !! Longevity they achieved indeed !!
Really dig your stories Karren !!

Blackmore knew about ACDC. ACDC literally came to blows with Deep Purple's roadies at Sunbury when Deep Purple played on the same show with ACDC in 1975
I saw them open up for Rainbow back in the 70's !!
Keep up the good work 😉
Thank you very much Fernando, I appreciate!!!

Good story. Interesting video it's. Sad that ritchie Blackmore never made peace with dio before he died. It would have been awesome if rainbow had reformed before everyone died. Sad that ronnie james dio cozy Powell and Jimmy bain have all passed away ☹️
Thomas Lavin, well said, Amen!
Dio and Ritchie were talking about a reunion but the sad passing of Cozy at the time ended it.
I think AC DC has really their own style ....if in your face rock...is a style....that's AC DC

I just barely got into Ritchie last week. He is hilarious. He put a random nut on his guitar just so people would go crazy wondering what it was for hahaha
That's right, he put a strap button on the front of his headstock just so it would bug people what it was for.
"But our banjo lover fired all the great musicians!" 😂
He ruined deep purple twice. As soon as they would start to make money he would destroy everything and everyone around. We could have had two dozen great albums to listen if not for his untreated bipolar sickness
@@vitalygoji2257 he didn't ruin them .it was Gillan who left he was tired of all the touring and the relationship was tiring with ritchie.second time ritchie left to go into the sound he wanted to form rainbow

He said that Ian incapable of singing blues, impersonates Presley and all kinds of shit like that. "It went down from there" he said. Ian was also recalling that Ritchie wanted him "to worship him and his magical powers".
Blackmore simply gone insane. He already had bipolar and money and fame made him megalomaniac. It happens to poor folks suddenly "making it". I'm pretty sure Bon even wrote most of "back in black" before he died on scraps of paper which the Young bros got hold of and used .

Rainbow had R.J.D. and when he left I left with him. Also no band back in the day knew what AC/DC was all about only us fans knew. I loved watching the boys just destroy one top rated band after another. People hated me for being an AC/DC fan back then. Here it is 2021 and still an AC/DC fan!⚡️⚡️⚡️
I don't know a rocker alive that doesn't like ACDC, especially live. I remember my first ACDC show in 79 with Brian Johnson. Of course Angus stole the show and he didn't stop much except a few moments between songs. They stayed true to their roots and deserve every ounce of success they got.
Bon Scott was still alive then in 1979..so it wasnt Brian Johnson.. he joined later after bons death.
Perfect Strangers is brilliant. Saw AC/DC in 82’ and Deep Purple 85’ both at The Spectrum.

The final success is important obviously and AcDc really have the success they deserve .. anyhow that's not something that will change my personal musical preference .. for me Rainbow ( Powell Dio years ) are perhaps the best band ever .. they had all it takes rock hard rock metal neoclassical barroque influences .. that's too much .. one of best guitarist ever .. one of the best sigers ever and one of the best drummers ever .. and they matched perfectly .. their studio albums and live albums are all masterpieces
Well spoken
Juan Manuel Perez... the rainbow albums with Ronnie James Dio are gems! My favorite is Rainbow Rising their second album from 1976. OMG! What a talented bunch of musicians they had in the band and some of Ronnie's best vocals.
@@jonathanhudak2059 I totally agree 👍
Angus said in 80s mag. Ac dc base their style on the song deep purple's"woman from tokyo". Stories on the road.
Very cool
Acdc is very second rate band. Never listened to anything but woman from tokyo. Found niche amongst low iq car mecanics and school drop outs. Personally I was never able to force myself to listen to any of their songs to the end before switching radio channel
@@vitalygoji2257 Then you should discuss that with school drop outs like Blackmore, Dio, Jimmy Barnes, Cozy Powell, Tony Carey or say Eddie Van Halen, Gene Simmons, Lars Ulrich, Dave Grohl, Whole Judas Priest, Michael Schenker, Pete Way (RIP/he even thought they were better than his own band UFO), Slash and Axl, Dave Mustaine, Kerry King and Dave Lombardo, Scott Ian, Matt Sorum, Joe Elliot and Rick Allen and last but not least Lemmy (RIP) and Ozzy... and all the other non musical punks (to name but a few)
But maybe your musical taste is shit?
As an old Rainbow and DC fan never knew they toured together? Very different styles but yes if you ever needed a warm up band who better than DC under Bon Scott! Rainbow would have been an anti climax for many fans I suspect. They were very good but never raw.Raw is king.I remember still seeing The Ramones and that night killed me.Pure energy and adrenaline!
Yeah, personally I prefer Rainbows music to DC, I find it much more interesting, but even I would choose to have Rainbow play before DC instead, the intensity of DC is too much for them to play first. Rainbow is more theatrical and dynamic.
ACDC are the guardians of tradition
AC/DC gigs in Australia before they left for England were epic. They'd be supporting larger Australian bands at outdoor concerts, but coming up quickly. It was a combination of comical antics and explosive energy. Angus would always climb the P.A and Bon would sling subtle insults to anyone above them on the bill. When they left Australia in 1976 it was all over for me. They typified Australian working class principles and were bound for glory or whatever was on offer. Bon Scott had already seen the potential with previous bands and the Young brothers lineage is well known. If not for English and Scottish immigrants Australian music could have been much less entertaining.
...I had...like...all of AC/DC's albums...I was like "all their songs have lead."
Yeah. Much as I like DP and Rainbow the Bon era ac/dc were not millionaire rock stars in their own bubble singing about Stargazers, highway stars but the boys in the bar having a good time, not giving a f*** and not taking crap. Rock n Roll.
Ritchie maybe regrets that he couldn't work with Mutt Lange like as AC/DC, which exploded the band popularity hugely since Back in Black.
BiB wasn't the first album he did with them and Mutt isn't the sole reason for that album's success, he was only a part of it
I saw ACDC open up for rainbow at the beacon in New York City Ritchie Blackmore walked off the stage after one song and the show was cancelled, they couldn't compete with AC DC
Bull .
"I saw Deep Purple live once and I paid money for it and I thought, 'Geez, this is ridiculous.' You just see through all that sort of stuff. I never liked those Deep Purples or those sort of things. I always hated it. I always thought it was a poor man's Led Zeppelin." Angus Young
That's ridiculous statement. No one in a music world would say that. Acdc nothing but a second grade band in that niche. Recycled some hard rock riffs and helped to downgrade hard rock to heavy metal. Not a single thing to learn from them. Just a bunch of loud clowns in shorts
Yeah he said bull about zeppelin the stones quit a few groups that Angus couldn't even play like think he's just jealous
NOONE touches Purple. Especially overrated Zeppelin. ..and AC/DC ..well only those who pretend to know metal like them. Facts.
Your stories are awesome
Big thanks Bill Wilenski, I appreciate!
I would say this in regards to Rainbow, looking back. They had moments of true brilliance with 3 singers. Richie Blackmore's dictator like control and trying to be the flavour of the week was the bands ultimate undoing.
If they'd have done what they naturally did with any of those 33 singer they'd have been a juggernaut. I personally, love the Dio records the most.
It happened in the 80's to at least 3 great 70's hard rock bands too. Kiss, Aerosmith, and Y&T, all tried to make Bon Jovi records. None of us wanted Bon Jovi records which is why GnR blew up. No pretense, just rock n roll. AC/DC meanwhile, kept doing what they do. Bon years by far the best of them but still no frills rock n roll is what they did. Hell, even the Stones have their fair share of tryin' to keep up with the Joneses records. Only AC/DC seemed to dodge that bullet
Yes, and Slayer on a metal parallel
Just the couple times I've seen AC DC. They leave it all on the stage and their ain't no other way to get it done in Rock....I love deep purple and was never able to see them live and live they were a so much more they turned it up double reward for buying tickets...
Angus has always reminded me of a white Chuck Berry!..
As an Australian mucisian it always puzzled me,why a large proportion of my non musicly inclined mates, loved AC/DC, they played simplistic 3 chord, basic songs, very, VERY loudly, and they never changed the formula. Now Angus has managed to clone Malcolm, restore the more or less original line up, NOTE....To Blackmore....Dont change the Formula.
Que guitarrista es mejor Richie o Angus?
Australia was full of long haired rock stars in the 70s so saying people didn't like them and they were chased out of windows sounds like a bit of crap to me Aussies have always loved em
That's actually the story Dio told. I didn't invent it. He said that in New Your and Australia, people didn't take too well rock n roll guys in the early 70s. He said it was dangerous even to go for lunch there. They used to fight with people in the audience and Rainbow were once thrown out from a city in Norway. They were banned ever since from playing there and they never came back. Dio said he laso used to jump into the audience and fight with the people who were gaving him grief.
@@karsguitarchannel6088 im not thinking you told a lie , but as an aussie who lived through the 70s i can tell you 1st hand that they were adored
Look in Australia back then most blokes in Australia where big hairy mean men and if you talk out of line you got punch out especially in the real early 70s..by late 70s things got better but when the draft was on TV for the war that's the time Australia was full of really mean big men i remember and the bikers started to take of big time clubs building up numbers.. I grew up in Adelaide so I seen it with my own eyes
@@anthonyde-zen2235 I don't know much about Australia, I live in S. Texas. But this Aussie dude I met said the people that lived in the Outback were the most dangerous. Makes sense, not a lot of people live there. I remember reading some story where these "Bandido's

club in some biker bar and several of them were killed. We got Bandido's here in Texas and just like in Australia, many are
vicious criminals we certainly want to avoid.
I saw Accadacca around the traps. There were a few Oz rock bands around that were not much different like Rose Tattoo and The Angels. But the best local hard rock band I saw at the time was Midnight Oil by far - their energy was unbelievable
Yes the Oils very loud and frenetic but completely different type of music to those other bands. More of a punk band and very Australian centric themes and also lefty activists, no wonder they didn't go far overseas. Tragic Rose Tattoo didn't become almost as big as AC-DC, they should've with the original lineup circa '81, '82.
It was the energy, sound, musicianship and the atmospheres they created. The Oils were a cut above IMO
@@AlmostEthical You're obviously a fan, fair enough but I can't agree with your last comment. They were looking down with contempt at most of their fans at times, just listen the the words of " king of the mountain".
@@mattbarbarich3295 Do you listen to lyrics? lol. I was just in it for the buzz, fuck the politics. No one created more of a buzz live than the Oils. Blackmore was right in my opinion , he picked the wrong band to precede them on stage . AC/DC's energy was so high and the music so crunchy. Not to take away from Rainbow, but Rainbow was more virtuoso talent . It's hard to come on as the headliner and be heavier than the fist band if it's AC/DC . They should have picked a band with a mellower presentation so that when they came on they would be easily contrasted as a larger talent

Is it possible that, the altercation they had in 1975 with Deep Purple's road crew, is what made them contemptuous of Rainbow? I'm in minority here, but I'm not a fan of AC/DC. I mean I like them, it's a good fun rock'n'roll, but they are too simplistic and repetitive to me. There are a couple of songs that I really love from them like Hells Bells, Rising Power and Badlands, but usually it's all the same to me.
Purple and Rainbow on the other hand.... Among the greatest of all time! And I'm talking about all the Rainbow line ups, including Turner, Bonnett and White.
Rainbow didn't get that successful, but Dio did, and Deep Purple was already huge.
On a side note Perfect Strangers is a badass record.
:30 incorrect.
KISS
Blackmore is in a league of his own. Young is just a good blues rock player repeating his licks all over again. AC DC is a good very hard rockin' band, which is very well suited for live concerts visited by partygoers. But when it comes to creativity, spontaneity and musicality they are lightyears away from Rainbow (and evev further from Deep Purple)!
LET THERE BE RO,,,,CK !!!!!!!!!. SCOTTISH AUSTRALIAN DEADLY MIX ALCOHOLIC BRAWLER AND HARD CORE ROCKER.
Rainbow Is More artístic band, also better musicians. than AcDC... was good in that times of Bon Scoot and More commercial music but Rainbow was More talented AND creative band.
0:36 never understood why North Americans have such a problem pronouncing the word "Aussie".
Sounds like they were unappreciative brats to me. I’m sure they matured as time went on.
Dio 5’2, Bon Scott 120lbs. Real bad asses😂
Bull blowing rainbow off the stage every night that's a lie I saw 5gat line up of rainbow seen all of them no way we're they up staging rainbow every night bull
Same thoughts
Rainbow where epic and fast
Did you see them open for them? If not, I guess RB is lying then, right?
Jerry Woods...2 great bands for sure! AC/DC raw, young, frenetic and fast paced whereas Rainbow were all performing for years as successful musicians prior to Rainbow. (With the exception of Bon Scott who was also a well rounded veteran by this point and 30 years old and the oldest guy in AC/DC) Cozy Powell just a monster drummer having played with Jeff Beck and countless others and a better, more experienced drummer than Phil Rudd. AC/DC with Bon would've been a hard act to follow but I'm sure Rainbow weren't intimidated by them and held their own. And talk about singers with a powerful voice, Ronnie James Dio, was one of the best and so was Bon Scott IMHO.
@@jonathanhudak2059 rainbow was a band of music heroes
A new Purple mark II
Why? Cos acdc's got camaraderie and rocked the world. Not a band led by a control freak which evolved from a speed metal pioneer into pop rock wannabe wanting to please the mainstream but didn't succeed like journey.
Our garage band played both jailbreak(hated it) and man on the silver mountain (loved it), but ACDC was a great band.
